Mildred Bradley Benton
CHARLOTTE Mildred Bradley Benton, 83,
Charlotte, died Monday (March 6, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital.
A native of Charlotte, she was the daughter of the
late Edwin and Irene Holland Bradley. She had retired as a receptionist at
Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. She was a member of Steelberry United Methodist
Church.
Her husband, James Cashion Benton, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include sons James C. Benton Jr. and
Brad Benton, both of Salisbury; daughters Iris Benton Cavin, Davidson, and Rebecca Benton
Rivers, Mount Pleasant, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Harry and Bryant Co.,
Chapel in the Oaks, conducted by the Rev.Ben Wenning., Burial, Oaklawn Cemetery.

Sandy Celette Blalock
ALBEMARLE Sandy Celette Blalock, 25, 315 S.
Second St., died Sunday (March 5, 2000).
Born Dec. 15, 1974, in Stanly County, Mrs. Blalock
was a daughter of Ruby Lee Harwood, Albemarle. She was a truck driver with Englund
Trucking.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include sons
Timmy Junior Drake and Tyler Spenser Harris, both of Monroe; sister Tammy Michelle
Whitehead, Winston-Salem; grandfather Cecil Davis, Siler City; and grandmother Annie
Yeager, Siler City.

Dr. Jacqueline Brodar
LEXINGTON Dr. Jacqueline Brodar, 68, a
resident Lexington and Fancy Gap, Va., died Sunday (March 5, 2000) at her home on South
Main Street.
Born Dec. 29, 1931, in McKeesport, Pa., Dr. Brodar
was the daughter of the late Dr. John Cannon and Saphronia Miller Green. She was a
graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa.
She was past president of the North Carolina
Chiropractic Womens Auxiliary and the Chalet High Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a
member of Lexington Chapter 98, Order of the Eastern Star.
Her husband, Dr. John Louis Brodar, died Sept. 11,
1999.
Survivors include sons Daniel M. Brodar, Dr.
Steven J. Brodar and Vinton Dwight Brodar, all of Lexington; daughter Rebecca L. Brodar,
Forest City; and four grandchildren.

MOORESVILLE Carol Shoemaker Brown, 38, 804
Spruce St., died Sunday (March 5, 2000) at her home.
Born Dec. 15, 1961, in Iredell County, Mrs. Brown
was a daughter of Nancy Summers Shoemaker, Mooresville, and the late Ralph Vance
Shoemaker. She was a cook at a nursing home.

Bradley Edward Brown, Gastonia; sisters Kelly Cass, Mooresville, and Jo Anne Shoemaker,
Arizona; and brother Joseph Vance Shoemaker, Soldotna, Alaska.

Harold Brent Harless
KANNAPOLIS Harold Brent Harless, 72, 1116
Birch St., died Sunday (March 5, 2000) at his home.
Born May 16, 1927, in Ashe County, Mr. Harless was
a son of the late Byrom and Nellie Mae Hopkins Harless. He served in both the U.S. Army
and the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He had retired as
a slasher tender at Cannon Mills.
His wife, Mary Turner, died in 1999.
Survivors include stepdaughter Mrs. John
(Emory)Deal, China Grove; and three step-grandchildren.

Kenneth Moore Mintz
MOCKSVILLE Kenneth Moore Mintz, 77, Milling
Road, died Monday (March 6, 2000) at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie, Advance, after several
months of declining health.
Born March 10, 1922, in Fayetteville, Mr. Mintz
was a son of the late Mary and John D. Mintz. A retired cattle farmer, he served in the
U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Mocksville First Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Mabel Knuckles Mintz; sons
Kenneth Randall Mintz, Las Vegas, and John Mark Mintz, Pleasantos, Calif.; daughter
Charlotte Themista, Spencer; brothers Maxie and Dennis Mintz, both of Fayetteville; and
two grandchildren.

Judith Parker Morrow
The funeral will be held today for Judith Parker
Morrow, 60, who died Saturday (March 4, 2000) at The Laurels of Salisbury.
Born Jan. 29, 1940, in Pontiac, Mich., Mrs. Morrow
was a daughter of the late Guy and Margie Vincent. She was educated in the schools of
Fenton and Morrice, Mich., and at Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Pontiac, Mich.
She earned her nursing license in Howel, Mich.
Retired as a licensed practical nurse, she was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Survivors include husband Lewis Morrow, China
Grove; sons Stephen Morrow, Gold Hill, Michael Morrow, Rockwell, and James Morrow,
Greenville; brothers Guy Taylor, Gold Water, Mich., and Harold and Wes Parker, both of
Texas; and sister Donna Parker, Waterfront, Mich.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Tabernacle Baptist Church,
conducted by the Rev. Mark Brown. The body was cremated.

Ethel Byerly Simmonds
COOLEEMEE Ethel Louise Byerly Simmonds, 88,
a native of Cooleemee, died at Penick Village, the Episcopal retirement community in
Southern Pines.
A daughter of the late Dr. Andrew Baxter and Ethel
Grimes Byerly, she earned a degree in physical education from the N.C. College for Women
in Greensboro.
During her college years she was a summer
volunteer at an Episcopal mission in the Appalachian mountains of Virginia. She enrolled
at the Church Training School in Philadelphia after her college graduation.
In 1933 she became a teacher at House of Bethany,
an Episcopal mission school for girls in Liberia, where she met her future husband, Harvey
Albert Simmonds. They served together in Liberia from their marriage in Dec. 15, 1934,
until 1946, when they returned to the United States.
She taught at St. Andrews School near
Sewanee, Tenn., and in the Sewanee public schools until 1972, when she retired to the
Byerly homeplace on Friendship Church Road in Lexington.
While in Lexington, she was a member of Grace
Episcopal Church and served on its vestry. In 1991, she moved to Penick Village and became
a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Her husband died in 1968.
Survivors include sons Harvey Albert Simmonds Jr.,
now Brother Benedict Simmonds, Berryville, Va., and William Andrew Simmonds, Athens, Ga.;
and two granddaughters.

Village, Southern Pines, and 11 a.m. Saturday, Grace Episcopal Church, Lexington.
