Katherine Holmes Culp

Katherine Holmes Culp, 78, formerly of Sherrills Ford Road, died Thursday (June 29, 2000) at Genesis Elder Care.

Born July 24, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs. Culp was a daughter of the late Margaret Rex and E.L. Holmes. She was educated in the Rowan County schools and graduated from Salisbury Business College. A homemaker, she was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Her husband, James Edward Culp, died March 14, 1984.

Survivors include daughters Camilla Culp and Beth Morgan, both of Salisbury; brothers E.B. Holmes and R.J. Holmes, both of Salisbury; sisters Helen Dobbins and Alethia Rice, both of Salisbury; and two grandchildren.

Services: Memorial, 7:30 p.m Friday, Summersett Funeral Home, conducted by Timothy G. Womble. Burial, City Memorial Park.

Visitation: After the service at the funeral home.

 

Elizabeth ‘Peg’ Feamster

The funeral will be Saturday for Elizabeth “Peg” Chunn Feamster, 66, 520 York Road, who died June 26, 2000, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

The names of brother Vance Perry and sister Vella Massey were given incorrectly in an earlier obituary. Both are from Charlotte. Also, her stepfather, the late Adam Carson, was omitted.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, New Bethel Baptist Church, Mocksville, conducted by the Rev. Thomas White, pastor, and the Rev. Dennis Bishop, pastor of First Waughtown Baptist Church, Winston-Salem. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home.

 

Jewell Fleming-Rigg

CHARLOTTE — Jewell Walker Fleming-Rigg, 82, died Monday (June 26, 2000) in Charlotte.

Born May 1, 1918, in Rowan County, Mrs. Fleming-Rigg was a daughter of the late Enoch Orlindo and Mary Morgan Walker.

Survivors include her husband, William W. Rigg Jr., whom she married 15 years ago; stepsons Harry L. Deaver and William W. Rigg II; and several step-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Hankins & Whittington-Dilworth Chapel. Burial, Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

Alice Ray Melton

Alice Ray Melton, 72, died Thursday (June 29, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Weldon Parnell

Weldon Parnell died Thursday (June 29, 2000) at the Hefner Veterans Medical Center.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Charles Richard Spry

Charles Richard Spry, 76, 2855 Gheen Road, died Wednesday (June 28, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 22, 1923, in Salisbury, Mr. Spry was a son of Ila Gobel and William Richard Spry. He was a 1940 graduate of Boyden High School. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European theater.

Mr. Spry was a machinist with Southern Railway for 44 years before his retirement. He was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a trustee and had served as an ordained deacon since 1947.

Survivors include Mildred Hendren Spry, whom he married in 1942; and brother Harry W. Spry, Midwest City, Okla.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Summersett Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Mark Anders. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, at the funeral home.

Minnie Young

Minnie C. Young, 103, 1214 W. Bank St., died Thursday (June 29, 2000) at the Brian Center.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.
