Minerva Moore Robinson

SPENCER — Minerva Moore Robinson, 96, Austin, Texas, formerly of Spencer, died Tuesday (June 13, 2000) in Austin, Texas.

Born Jan. 24, 1904, in Mount Airy, Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker. She was a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church. She moved to Austin, Texas, in 1988 to make her home with her son, Carl Robinson.

Survivors, in addition to her son, include her identical twin sister Mary Pulliam, Winston-Salem; three grandsons; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.

Services: The body was cremated. Graveside services are slated for 3 p.m. Monday,July 10 at Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Floyd Wilkins

Floyd B. Wilkins, 99, Salisbury, died Thursday (June 22, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born July 3, 1900, in Spartanburg County, S.C., Mr.Wilkins attended the Providence Normal and Industrial School in Spartanburg. He was a self-employed contractor and founder of Wilkins & Sons Construction Company. A lifelong member of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, he was a class leader, member of the trustee board, former Sunday school teacher, dedicated prayer meeting leader and first president of the Lay Council of the Salisbury district of the AMEZion Church. He was a member of the East End Community Club, Meals on Wheels, a life member of the J.C. Price American Legion Post #107 and 32 degree Master Mason and Shriner. He was also recorded in Rowan County as the last surviving WWI veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

He received a number of awards including the Soldiers Memorial AMEZion Church Man of the Year 1998, Soldiers Memorial AMEZion Church Black History Award, Diamond Jubilee American Legion Award with 60 years of service and the Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award.

His wife, Annie Garrett Wilkins, died March 21, 1981.

Survivors include sons Charles W. Wilkins and Isaac “Ike” Wilkins, both of Salisbury; daughters Clara W. Richardson, of the home, Leedesia G. Brooks, Shelby, Martha Fleming, Woodleaf, Mary David, Granite Quarry, and Aljosie B. Knight, Cartersville, Ga.; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Soldiers Memorial AMEZion Church, Salisbury. Burial, U.S. National Cemetery, Salisbury with military rites by the Salisbury Veterans Council.

Visitation: Noon Tuesday, Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church.

Boyce Bryant Parks

Boyce Bryant Parks, 76, of Salisbury, died Friday (June 23, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center, Salisbury, after a brief illness.

Born July 27, 1923, in Lancaster, S.C., Mr. Parks was the son of the late Bryant and Anna Rollins Parks. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. He was a retired machinist with Rowan Auto Parts and later worked with Motor Service and Parts. He was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post, a life member of the Salisbury Elks Lodge and a member of the VFW Post #3006.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Sammons Parks, whom he married Dec. 17, 1977; son Bryant Taylor Parks, Kannapolis; daughter Virginia Jo Campbell, Statesville; sisters Ruth Shumaker, Lexington, and Viola Mulholland, Conway, S.C.; and one granddaughter.

Services: 1 p.m., Monday, Lyerly Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Dancy III, pastor Cleveland First Baptist Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home, Salisbury. At other times, the family will be at the home of sister-in-law Phyllis Stivers, Cleveland.

Idell S. Phillips

KANNAPOLIS— Lillian Idell Scarboro Phillips, 84, Wilora Lake Health Care, Charlotte, formerly of Kannapolis, died Friday (June 23, 2000) at the Wilora Lake Health Care in Charlotte following five years of declining health and two months of serious illness.

Born Sept. 23, 1915, in Madison County, Ga., Mrs. Phillips was a daughter of the late Henry Allen and Addie Elizabeth Scarboro.

Survivors include daughter Yvonne Higgins, Midland; son Emory Phillips, Charlotte; sisters Annie Ruth Parker and Mazelle Robinson, both of Kannapolis; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis. Burial, 3 p.m. Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Charlotte.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home.

Sharnette Neely

A graveside service will be held Monday for infant Sharnette Neely, daughter of Antoinette Neely.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, are maternal grandparents, Milton and Libby Neely.

Services: 9 a.m. Monday, Ervin Temple CME Church, Woodleaf, conducted by the Rev. Charlene Lewis, pastor.

Rev. Karl Monroe Park

Funeral arrangements are incomplete for the Rev. Karl Monroe Park, of Salisbury, who died Saturday (June 24, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital of Charlotte.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Betty Sue Kluttz

Betty Sue Crenshaw Kluttz, 73, of Salisbury, died Friday (June 23, 2000) at Lutheran Nursing Home, Salisbury, after declining health for six years and serious illness for eight months.

Born Jan. 1, 1927, in Rowan County, Mrs. Kluttz was a daughter of the late Roy E. and Tishia Riggs Crenshaw. She was educated in the Rowan County schools, was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Salisbury.

A son, Stanley Christopher Kluttz, died Oct. 3, 1984.

She is survived by son R.S. “Bob” Kluttz, Rockwell; sister Leota Wilson, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and two granddaughters.

Services: 11 a.m., Monday, First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Keith Flippin, pastor, and the Rev. Gene Bost, chaplain, Lutheran Nursing Home. Burial, City Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Visitation: None. The family will be at the home of Bob Kluttz of Rockwell.

Dorcas G. Lawson

KANNAPOLIS — Dorcas G. Lawson, 71, 206 East Avenue, died Friday (June 23, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after two months of declining health.

Born March 10, 1929, in Forsyth County, Mrs. Lawson was a daughter of the late Maggie Viola Ludwick and H. L. Gantt. She was employed with Fieldcrest-Cannon, Plant 1 for over 40 years before her retirement. A Kannapolis resident most of her life, she attended Lakewood Baptist Church. She was also a member of the VFW Poston-Perkins Post 8989 Auxiliary.

Survivors include husband Grant Lawson; son John G. Lawson, China Grove; daughter Kymbra Renee Lawson, of the home; brother H. L. Gantt, Kannapolis; sister Ruby Lanier, Winston-Salem; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Monday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. John Haas. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, at the funeral home.

Ina Mae Dixon Collette

MOCKSVILLE— The funeral will be Monday for Ina Mae Dixon Collette, 89, Yadkinville Road, who died Friday (June 23, 2000) at Autumn Care of Mocksville after several months of declining health.

Born March 15, 1911, in Davie County, Mrs. Collette was a daughter of the late William Leonard and Nora Frances Foster Dixon. She was a retired seamstress with Monleigh Garment and B & E Manufacturing and for many years was a dietician with Davie County High School. A longtime member of Mocksville First Baptist Church, she had served as a Sunbeam Leader and sang in the church choir. She had also served as treasurer of her Sunday school class.

Her husband, J. C. Collette, preceded her in death.

Survivors include Leonard Collette, Mocksville; daughters Frances Dunn and Janie Donaldson, both of Winston-Salem; brother Howard Dixon, Mocksville; sisters Nannie Davis, Mocksville, and Alice Hedrick, Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Mocksville First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Davis. Burial, Eatons Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Eaton Funeral Home.

Elmond Cecil Eudy

Elmond Cecil Eudy, 86, of Salisbury, died Friday (June 23, 2000) at Autumn Care Nursing Center after three months of serious illness.

Born Sept. 25, 1913, in Stanly County, Mr. Eudy was a son of the late Daniel Webster and Lottie Moss Eudy. Educated in Stanly County schools, he was a U. S. Navy veteran of WWII and spent the entire war on the U.S.S. Suwannee. He received the Presidential Unit Citation Award for being on the ship in the Pacific.

Mr. Eudy was a member of and manager for Samuel C. Hart American Legion Post and later worked at Salisbury Glidden Paint Store. A member of Messiah Lutheran Church, he was also a member of the Salisbury Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Addie Goodman Eudy; son Ray Eudy, Fort Mill, S.C.; daughter Carol Copley, Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers Henry Thomas Eudy, Lexington, S.C., Ervin Eudy, Statesville, and Spurgeon Eudy, Canton, Ohio; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Monday, Lyerly Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. JerryHollar, pastor Messiah Lutheran Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Council.

Mary B. Boles

ALBEMARLE — Mary B. Boles, 75, 809 McArthur Road, died Friday (June 23, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born March 25, 1925, in Stokes County, Mrs. Boles was a daughter of the late Clarence Alvie and Nealie TalbertBoles. She was a winder with Albemarle Spinning and a member of Hillside Baptist Church.

Survivors include son Alvie Boles, Albemarle; daughter Shirley Taylor, Rockingham; sisters Lillian Pickler, New London, and Mildred Poplin, Norwood; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Hillside Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Curtis H. Smith. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory.
