Sue Jordan Roberts
KANNAPOLIS Sue Aldridge Jordan Roberts, 61,
2016 Bunker Court, died Monday (June 19, 2000) at her home after three years of declining
health.
Born April 13, 1939, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Roberts was a daughter of Eula Bradshaw Dorton, Kannapolis, and the late Ned Dorton. In
her earlier years, she worked for the former Roberts Insurance Co. She began her 32 years
of employment with The Franklin Brown Co., Charlotte, in 1966.
She taught several insurance classes for
Independent Insurance Agents and was involved in the local, state and regional levels of
the National Insurance Womens Association, serving two terms as president.
Mrs. Roberts was twice named Charlotte Insurance
Woman of the Year. She attended 14 National Insurance Womens Association
conventions. She was a member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include
husband Robert R. Roberts; daughter Stephanie Jordan Nivens, Harrisburg; brother Larry
Aldridge, Kannapolis; stepchildren Cassandra R. Holbrook, Mark Roberts and Andrea Ward,
all of Kannapolis; two grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.

Nureldin Stoessel Smith
The funeral will be Thursday for Nureldin Stoessel
Smith, 79, Salisbury, who died Monday (June 19, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center
after seven months of declining health and three weeks of serious illness.
Born July 25, 1920, in Rowan County, Mrs. Smith
was a daughter of the late William and Leonie Maufee Stoessel. She was a graduate of
Boyden High School and a member of the first graduating class of licensed practical nurses
from Rowan Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
In 1938, she was named Miss Salisbury. She was a
member of North Main Baptist Church, American Legion Post 3006 Ladies Auxiliary and
Salisbury Chapter 117, Order of the Eastern Star.
Her husband, John William Smith, died in 1977. A
son, William Frank Smith, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons John William Smith Jr. and
Joey Edward Smith, both of Salisbury, and Andrew Michael Smith, Biloxi, Miss.; brother
William Michael Stoessel Jr., Salisbury; sisters Egenia S. Seavers, Winston-Salem,
Katherine S. Smith, Albemarle, Edith S. Landon, Fayetteville, Emma S. Ozment, Laurenburg,
and Stella S. Gillespie, Salisbury; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mary Fed Howell Staton
BADIN Mary Louise Fed Howell
Staton, 80, 211 Spruce St., died Monday (June 19, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital,
Charlotte.
Born Sept. 27, 1919, in Stanly County, Mrs. Staton
was a daughter of the late James Coy and Ida Mae Crowell Howell. She was a homemaker. She
was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Badin and the Kittie Sue Parrish Bible Class.
Her husband, Raeford Clarence Staton, died Feb. 5,
1988.
Survivors include sons Robert M. Yelton, Lake
Norman, Teddy Starnes, New London, and David Staton, Albemarle; daughter Barbara A.
Staton, Albemarle; sister Vivian H. Furr, Fitzgerald, Ga.; six grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.

Peggy Russell Yost
The funeral will be Thursday for Peggy Russell
Yost, 72, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (June 20, 2000) at her home after 2 1/2 years of
declining health and two months of serious illness.
Born Jan. 5, 1928, in Rowan County, Mrs. Yost was
a daughter of the late William Bill Brown and Martha
Maggie Leazer Russell. She was a 1946 graduate of Boyden High School.
She was formerly employed by R.W. Norman Co. and
Fiber Industries (KoSa) and was associated with the Trophy House of Salisbury from
1994-1998. A member of First United Church of Christ, she served in the Sunday school
nursery department for 40 years.
Her husband, James Jackson Jack Yost,
died Sept. 9, 1983.
Survivors include daughters Martha Yates Bolmon
and Cathy Yost Robbins, both of Salisbury, Janie Yost Lesley, Gold Hill, and Sally Yost
Honeycutt, Faith; sisters Katherine Abernathy, and Doris Morgan, both of Rockwell, and Ann
Brown, Welcome; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
