Samuel Earl EstridgeBADIN Samuel
Earl Estridge, 92, 80 Henderson St., died Sunday (June 18, 2000) at the home of a son,
Samuel Earl Estridge, Badin.
Born April 15, 1908, in Union County, Mr. Estridge was a
son of the late Henry Samuel and Lena Bell Green Estridge. A retired golf professional, he
had worked at Stanly County Country Club. He was a member of Badin Baptist Church and a
member of the Professional Golfers Association for 50 years.
His wife, Claudia Blanche McKinney Estridge, preceded him
in death.
Survivors in addition to son Samuel Estridge, include son
Mark E. Estridge, Norwood; sister Lucille Freeman, Daytona Beach, Fla.; four
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel,
Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. Dan Abernathy. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times
the family will be at the home of Sam Estridge, 36161 Davis Road.

Hubert Miller
Hubert Miller, 60, 812 Old Concord Road, died Sunday (June
18, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born April 3, 1940, in Rowan County, Mr. Miller was a son
of Idella Cornelius Miller, Concord, and the late Eddie Lee Miller. He was educated in the
Rowan County schools.
A member of Sills Creek AME Zion Church, Mooresville, he
was employed by Carolina Plum, Rockwell.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Ruby Mae
Thompson Miller, Greensboro; sons Hubert Miller Jr., Kannapolis, and James Henry Miller,
Greensboro; daughter Mary Ruth Hamilton, Greensboro; brothers Connie Lee Miller, Concord,
and Clyde Curtis Cornelius, China Grove; sisters Kathleen Miller, Charlotte, Beatrice
Young, Kannapolis, Mable Miller and Annie Carter, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Mary Kelley,
Portsmouth, Va.; and four grandchildren.

Perlie Duncan Nichols
MOORESVILLE Perlie Mae Duncan Nichols, 81, 125 Duffy
Drive, died Sunday (June 18, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Born April 19, 1919, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Nichols was a
daughter of the late Clarence and Nettie Vickers Duncan. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Challie I. Nichols, died May 5, 1999.
Survivors include sons Royce, Thomas and Bobby Nichols, all
of Mooresville, Morris Nichols, Darlington, S.C., and Larry Nichols, Troutman; daughters
Irene Hamby, Mooresville, and Cathey Helms, Lincolnton; sister Mildred Vickers,
Mooresville; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Mount Mourne Church of God,
conducted by the Rev. Lawrence Ownbey. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Paul Herbert Hub Trexler
Paul Herbert Hub Trexler, 72, Salisbury, died
Saturday (June 17, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born June 8, 1928, in Lafayette, Ala., Mr. Trexler was a
son of the late Glenn V. and Beulah Eagle Trexler. He was educated in the Rowan County
schools and had been a mechanic for Martin Marietta Associates.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean
War. He was a member of Union Lutheran Church, where he served on the cemetery committee.
Survivors include wife Mary Frances Parker Trexler, whom he
married Nov. 13, 1954; daughter Tamara Carol Trexler Brown, Salisbury; brother Glenn V.
Trexler Jr., Gold Hill; sisters Mary Elizabeth Misenheimer, Gold Hill, and Odelia Lyerly,
Salisbury; and two grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Union Lutheran Church, conducted
by the Rev. Darrell Norris, pastor, and the Rev. Marion Bost. Burial, family plot in
church cemetery.

Wayne Mayhue Upright
LANDIS Wayne Mayhue Upright, 76, 802 E. Mills Drive,
died Saturday (June 17, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center,
Winston-Salem.
Born June 29, 1923, in Landis, Mr. Upright was a son of the
late Roy Mayhue and Annie Viola Mills Upright. He was educated in the Landis city schools
and was a self-employed landscaper.
He was a member of Rodgers Park Baptist Church. A World War
II veteran, he served with the 106 Infantry Division and later with the 3rd Armor Division
under General Patton.
Survivors include wife Catherine Riley Upright; daughters
Bobbi Ann Jackson, China Grove, Wanda William and Cathy Faye Lawing, both of Concord, and
Shannon U. Smith, Matthews; sister Louise Upright Propst, Kannapolis; nine grandchildren;
and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jacob Monroe J.M. Yost
Jacob Monroe J.M. Yost, 89, 4655 Miller Road,
died Saturday (June 17, 2000) at his home.
Born Oct. 30, 1910, in Rowan County, Mr. Yost was a son of
the late John Monroe and Laura Jane May Yost. He was educated at Farm Life School, China
Grove.
A farmer, he was a member of the Army Air Forces warning
services as a volunteer in 1944. He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church.
Survivors include wife of 69 years Elma Cauble Yost; sons
Franklin M. and Don R. Yost, both of Salisbury; daughter Ann Yost Brown, Salisbury; nine
grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday, St. Marks Lutheran Church,
conducted by the Rev. Gene Bruce. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 2:30-4 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
