Margaret Louise Barrier, 78, 1407 Rena St., died Saturday (June 17, 2000), in Elleree,
S.C.
Born June 19, 1921, in Haw River, Mrs. Barrier a daughter
of the late Brian Ball and Alma Bradley Farrell Eberhardt. She worked in Cannon Mills
Plant 1 Spinning Room until 1963 and Jones and Presnell Studios as a photographer before
retiring in 1975.
A sister, Nadine Purser, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Carol Gordon, Kannapolis; sister
Ruth Lindsay, Kannapolis; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Whitleys Funeral Home,
conducted by the Rev. Jeff Upright. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Whitleys Funeral Home. At
other times the family will be at the home.
Freddie Worn Blackwell
GOLDSBORO Freddie Worn Blackwell, 49, formerly of
China Grove, died Sunday (June 11, 2000), at his home.
Survivors include daughters Conna Blackwell and Marie
Blackwell, both of China Grove.

Herman Chambers
KANNAPOLIS Herman Alexander Chambers, 96, 2200
Centergrove Road, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at Five Oaks Nursing Home following two
months of declining health.
Born Oct. 4, 1903, in Franklin County, Ga., Mr. Chambers
was the son of the late B.L. and Lue Bray Chambers. Before his retirement in 1967, he
owned and operated Lakeview Grocery.
His wife, Annie Rea Crider Chambers, died July 25, 1998.
Survivors include sons R. Carlton Chambers and Derrell
Chambers, both of Kannapolis; half-sister Desiree Coil, Royston, Ga.; half-brothers Sidney
Chambers and James Chambers, both of Royston, Ga.; five grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Kannapolis Church of God,
conducted by the Rev. Sam Crisp and the Rev. Willie Rash. Burial will be at Carolina
Memorial Park.

Regina Gaither Head
MOCKSVILLE Regina Gaither Head, 38, Grubb Road, died
Friday (June 16, 2000), at Davie County Hospital.
Born March 24, 1962, in Rowan County, Mrs. Head was a
daughter of James Richardson and Joann Goldwire Gaither of Woodleaf. She had been employed
with Davie County Hospital as a registered nurse. She was a member of Old Providence
Presbyterian Church in Cleveland.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband,
Jimmy Head; son Alston Head; daughter Miranda Head; stepdaughters Kelly Head and Carrie
Hellard, both of Salisbury; brother Richard Gaither, Woodleaf; sister Christine Hennessee,
Lenoir; grandparents Martha Pinkham, Salisbury, and Irene Faust, Mocksville; and a
step-grandson.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Old Providence Presbyterian
Church, conducted by the Rev. John Milholland. Burial, church cemetery.

Lizzie Virginia Luther
Lizzie Virginia Luther, 90, 410 W. Franklin St., died
Saturday (June 17, 2000), at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Mary Phoebe Oplinger
CHARLOTTE Mary Phoebe Oplinger, of 1323 Queens Road
and formerly of Salisbury, died Tuesday (June 13, 2000), at Presbyterian Hospital.
Miss Oplinger was the daughter of Nathan E. and Sadie
Somers Oplinger. She was a librarian, retiring from Central Piedmont Community College
after 23 years as director of library services. Before that, she was library director at
Queens College. She received a bachelors degree from Maryville College and a
masters degree from Drexel University.
Survivors include brother Nathan E. Oplinger, Ocala, Fla.

conducted by the Rev. Dr. William P. Wood and the Rev. Mary Katherine Robinson. Burial and

Alexander Posluszny
DAVIDSON Alexander Lamison Posluszny, 57, of
Southwest Drive and formerly of Salisbury, died Friday (June 16, 2000), at Lake Norman
Regional Medical Center.
Born March 22, 1943, in Chambersburg, Pa., Mr. Posluszny
was a son of Raymond Fredrick and Marguerite Lamison Posluszny.
A retired sales executive in the steel and oil industry, he
was a 1965 graduate of Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y. He was a U.S. Army veteran,
serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, attaining the rank of captain and receiving a purple
heart, a Silver Star and three Bronze Stars.
In addition to his parents, survivors include sons
Alexander Lamison Posluszny Jr., Flint, Mich., and Robert William Posluszny, Grand Blanc,
Mich.; and a grandson.

MOORESVILLE Margaret Ruth Haire Troutman, 76, 618
Gum St., died Saturday (June 17, 2000), at Genesis Elder Care.
Born Jan. 21, 1924, in Iredell County, she was a daughter
of the late Odell and Nellie Sherrill Haire. She was a housewife.
Her husband, Charles Troutman, died Nov. 21, 1997. A
brother, Conrad Haire, died in 1993.
Survivors include sons Dale Troutman and Eddie Troutman,
both of Mooresville; brother Bill Haire, Mooresville; sisters Patsy Meadows and Mary
Martha Oliphant, both of Mooresville; and five grandchildren.
