Ruth Hazel Cain Austin
STATESVILLE — Ruth Hazel Cain Austin, 91, Statesville, formerly of Salisbury, died Tuesday (June 13, 2000) at Iredell Memorial Hospital after three weeks of serious illness.
Born Jan. 22, 1909, in Rowan County, Mrs. Austin was a daughter of the late William Harry and Martha Glendora Coral Cain. A graduate of Boyden High School, Salisbury, she attended Underhill Business College.
Retired from Jack and Jill Nursery, Salisbury, she was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Salisbury.
Her husband, Delma Bertice Austin, died Aug. 10, 1980. She was also preceded in death by sons Delma Bertice Austin Jr. and Larry Grayson Austin and daughter Doris A. Troutman.
Survivors include eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Lyerly Funeral Home, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. William Ragsdale, pastor, Main Street United Methodist Church. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Salisbury.

Perry Lee Coles
MOCKSVILLE — The funeral will be Friday for Perry Lee Coles, 42, Winston-Salem, who died Saturday (June 10, 2000) at his home after a period of declining health.
A 1975 graduate of Davie High School, he was last employed by the Musgrave Co.
Survivors include his mother, Cleasie McIvor Coles, Mocksville; daughters Crystal Coles and Denise Jeanette Fowler; brother Jerry McIvor, Winston-Salem; and sister Queen Esther Harding, Chicago.

Andrew ‘Andy’ Cummings
MOORESVILLE — Andrew Carmichael “Andy” Cummings, 53, Hiram Road, died Tuesday (June 13, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 30, 1946, in Moultrie,Ga., Mr. Cummings was the son of the late Raymond Edward and Willene Jones Cummings. He was a graduate of Moultrie High School and attended Georgia Southern College.
He had retired as a production planner for Ingersol Rand after 25 years with the company. He was currently employed as a salesman for Randy Marion Chevrolet-Pontiac-Buick and with Fast Phils.
A soccer coach and referee, he also coached baseball and served as an umpire. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Darlene Brock Cummings; sons Michael G. Cummings, Lawrenceville, Ga., Jeffrey W. Cummings, Robert E. “Bobby” Cummings and Jamie L. Cummings, all of Mooresville; sisters Mary Hartley and Ramona Patton, both of Macon, Ga., Paula Clark, Byron, Ga., Barbara Williams, Berlin, Ga., and Elaine Cleveland, Arabi, Ga.; and one grandson.

Lewis Heath Gamble
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Lewis Heath Gamble, 91, 711 Irene Ave., who died Wednesday (June 14, 2000) at his home after six weeks of declining health and a week of serious illness.
Born April 3, 1909, in Union County, Mr. Gamble was a son of the late Smiley and Ruby Godfrey Gamble. He had retired in 1974 after 21 years with the Kannapolis schools. He was earlier employed with Kannapolis Construction Co. and CannonMills, Plant 4.
A member of Memorial Baptist Church, he had served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and chairman of trustees. He was active in both the youth and nursing home ministries.
His wife, Mary McManus Gamble, died Nov. 2, 1994.
Survivors include daughters Alice Rodgers Alward and Pauline Haithcock, both of Kannapolis, and JudyJoyner, Concord; brother Joe Gamble, Concord; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Harvey L. Hartman
TITUSVILLE , Pa. — Harvey L. Hartman, 64, 406 W. Walnut St., died Wednesday (June 14, 2000) at Titusville Area Hospital after a short illness.
Born Jan. 15, 1936, in Salisbury, N.C., Mr. Hartman was a son of the late Carl E. and M. Elizabeth Hartman. Employed by Strickland Construction Co., Seneca, he had worked in Florida, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. His projects included Disney World from 1969 to 1988 and the World’s Fair inNew Orleans in 1984.
He attended the Church of the Nazarene in Titusville and was a member of the Wood Wire and Metal Lathing Union, the International Collectors Society and the Loyal Order of the Moose in Kississmee, Fla.
A son, Norman Hartman, preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife E. Christine Stubbs Hartman, whom he married June 26, 1987, in Kississimee,Fla.; children Harvey Hartman Jr., Faith, N.C., Clifford Hartman, North Carolina, Robin Gallimore, Salisbury, N.C., Denise Miller, Tampa, Fla., and A.A. Dwayne C. Hartman, Pensacola, Fla.; stepchildren Eddie Rehrer, Titusville, Mark Rehrer, Red Bank, Tenn., John Rehrer, King George, Va., and Laurie Rehrer, Fayetteville, N.C.; sister Shirley Beattie, Tampa, Fla.; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Oliver Brown Ketchie
SPENCER — Oliver Brown Ketchie, 85, Spencer, died Wednesday (June 14, 2000) at Spencer Health Care after six months of declining health.
Born Sept. 21, 1914, in Rowan County, Mr. Ketchie was a son of the late Lewis Manuel Stephen and Evan Blackwell Ketchie. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he was a member of Trading Ford Baptist Church, where he was active in the Roman Gobble Sunday School Class.
He had at various times been employed by Southern Railway, General Electric in Lynchburg, Va., North Carolina Finishing Co. and Hardee’s.
His wife, Carleen Leighton Ketchie, preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughter Judy Queen, Spencer; brother Marvin Ketchie, Spencer; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. Friday, Trading Ford Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mike Motley. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30. Burial, family plot in church cemetery.

Elizabeth Millsaps
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Elizabeth Estelle Jordan Millsaps, 82, 332 Vance Ave., who died Tuesday (June 13, 2000) at Hunter Woods Nursing Home, Charlotte.
Born April 27, 1918, in Jefferson, Ga., Mrs. Millsaps was a daughter of the late Richard W. and Levada Thomas Jordan. She had retired from Cannon Mills’ Swink Plant.
Her husband, William Ralph Millsaps, and a foster son, Douglas G. Lunsford, preceded her in death.
Survivors include foster son Steven Barnhart, Salisbury; and sisters Clara Mae Winecoff and Rosie Summers, both of Kannapolis, and Cora Lee Rufty, Hampton, Va.

Otis Eugene Ridenhour
MOCKSVILLE — Otis Eugene Ridenhour, 78, Pine Ridge Road, died Wednesday (June 14, 2000) at his home.
Born March 2, 1922, in Davie County, Mr. Ridenhour was a son of the late Walter L. and Clara Wall Ridenhour. Retired from KoSa after 15 years with the company, he was a member of Cooleemee Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include wife Addie Campbell Ridenhour; son Walter Ridenhour, Advance; daughters Susan Morrison, Cleveland, and Joanne Allen, Mocksville; brother John W. Ridenhour, Cooleemee; sister Margie McDaniel, New Jersey; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

NORWOOD — Presley Thomas Spurlock, 17, 629 Heights Ave., died Sunday (June 11, 2000) at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
A native of Stanly County, he was the grandson of Annabell Medlin of Albemarle.

Thomas Coleman Austin
NEW LONDON — Thomas Coleman Austin, 79, 36084 Napier Road, died Wednesday (June 14, 2000) at his home.
Born Dec. 22, 1920, in Stanly County, Mr. Austin was a son of the late John Edward and Mary Lowder Austin. He was a landscape contractor and licensed nurseryman for 49 years.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. A life member of the DAV, he was also a member of the VFW and the Land Improvement Conservation Association.
Survivors include wife Louvine Austin Austin; sons Stephen Wayne Austin and Eddie Lee Austin, both of Albemarle; daughters Cheryl Hicks, Wingate, and Cynthia Lord, of the home; sister Wilmetta Hathcock, China Grove; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Daniel Eugene Warlick
The funeral will be Friday for Daniel Eugene Warlick, 63, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (June 13, 2000) at Duke University Medical Center, Durham. He had been in declining health since November 1999.
Born Oct. 8, 1936, in Rowan County, Mr. Warlick was the son of the late Frederick Michael and Claire Hereford Warlick. He was a 1954 graduate of Boyden High School and a 1958 graduate of Catawba College.
A veteran of the U.S.Army, he served as a member of the local 991st Transportation Reserve Unit for eight years and went on active duty with the unit during the Berlin crisis in 1961.
He was associated with Hobson-Reynolds Insurance Agency for some years before he purchased the company in 1977. He sold the business to Isenhour-Freeman Insurance in 1991.
He also began appraising real estate in 1973. A certified general real estate appraise, he was owner of Warlick Real Estate Appraisals.
Mr. Warlick was a member of First United Church of Christ, where he was treasurer of the Laymen’s Fellowship and a past president of the church council. He was also a member and past president of the Salisbury Board of Realtors, a member and past Exalted Ruler of Salisbury Elks Lodge 699 and a member of Andrew Jackson MasonicLodge 576.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Broome Warlick, whom he married June 7, 1959; son Daniel Warlick Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah; daughters Beck Warlick, Durham, and Marie Warlick, Black Mountain; brother Frederick M. Warlick, Greensboro; and a grandson.
Services: 3 p.m. Friday, First United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. David L. Cook, pastor, and the Rev. Guy Fisher. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Members of the Salisbury Board of Realtors, Salisbury Elks Lodge and Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge will be seated as a group. Burial, City Memorial Park.
Visitation: 1-2:30 p.m. Friday in the church parlor.
