Eugene Adam Young

KANNAPOLIS — Eugene Adam Young, 88, 5 Marietta Drive, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born June 12, 1912, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Young was a son of the late Floyd and Ida Wilson Young. He had retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 1, cutting room.

Survivors include wife Gracie Black Young; daughters Lou Shankle, Davidson, and Loretta Young, of the home; and brother Kenneth Young, Concord.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. Joseph R. Crawford. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Marietta Drive.

 

Crystal Leigh Bowen

ALBEMARLE — Crystal Leigh Bowen, 20, 1094 Varsity Lane, Charlotte, died Sunday (June 11, 2000) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

Born May 8, 1980, in Stephens County, Ga., Miss Bowen was the daughter of Jane Huneycutt, Albemarle. A sales clerk at Concord Mills mall, she was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include sister Angela Jane Brown, Orlando, Fla.; stepfather Steven Mark Huneycutt, Albemarle; paternal grandfather Fred Berrong, Cleveland, Ga.; maternal step-grandparents Bob and Collen Huneycutt, Albemarle; and stepbrothers Joey, Steven and Bobby Huneycutt, all of Albemarle.

Services: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Poplin Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Farrell Shimpock, the Rev. David Harwood and the Rev. Yates Brooks. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home of her mother and stepfather at 24499 Half Mile Road.

 

Boyce Irving Henley

MAIDEN — Boyce Irving Henley, 85, 2641 Bud Arndt Road, died Sunday (June 11, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. He was a resident of Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury.

Born Dec. 24, 1914, in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Henley was a son of the late Richard Baxter and Lilly Skidmore Henley. He was a foreman with the Department of Transportation and a member of Mount Ruhama Baptist Church, Newton.

Survivors include wife Rose Barringer Henley; sons Boyce I. Henley II, Cornelius, and Noah Richard Henley, Salisbury; brothers George Henley, Newton, and William T. and Patrick Henley, both of Maiden; sister Sarah Henley Bandy, Newton; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Mount Ruhama Baptist Church, Newton. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: At the church immediately after the service.

Memorials: Good Shepherd Clinic, Diabetic Supplies, 120 N. Jackson St., Salisbury, N.C. 28144.

Nina Stowe Howard

CLOVER, S.C. — Nina Stowe Howard died Saturday (June 10, 2000) at her home in Clover. She was the sister of the Rev. James L. Stowe, Salisbury, N.C.

Services: 4 today, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Sallie Doby Lowder

ALBEMARLE — Sallie Katherine Doby Lowder, 98, 517 Crestview Drive, died Sunday (June 11, 2000) at her home.

Born Dec. 1, 1901, in Stanly County, Mrs. Lowder was a daughter of the late John Franklin and Liza Talbert Doby. She was educated in a one-room schoolhouse at the base of Morrow Mountain. A member of First Street United Methodist Church, she had retired as manager of Rolmar Fabrics.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper E. Lowder, and sons Hoyle Edward Lowder, Jasper E. Lowder Jr. and Kenny B. Lowder.

Survivors include daughter Marcell Moore, Albemarle; sisters Vernie Sells, Misenheimer, and Betty Freeman, Albemarle; brother John Doby, Wilmington; stepbrother Lavander Russell, Albemarle; care-giver Pauline Maners, New London; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. David Colson and the Rev. Caroll Flack. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Crestview Drive.

Trevia Anderson Patterson

MOCKSVILLE — Trevia Anderson Patterson, 42, a former Davie County resident, died Monday (June 12, 2000) in Columbia, S.C., after a short illness.

Mrs. Patterson was the daughter of Junior Anderson of Lexington, A 1975 graduate of Davie High School, she graduated from Appalachian State University in 1980.

A 12-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, she also served as a civilian employee for the Department of Defense in Fort Jackson, S.C. She was a member of Mount Sinai AME Zion Church, Advance, and attended Adams N.E. AME Zion Church, Columbia, S.C.

Survivors, in addition to her father, include husband William “Bill” Patterson; daughters LaVette and Courtney Patterson, both of the home; stepmother Peggy Anderson, Lexington; brothers Stephen Anderson, Winston-Salem, and Terry and Ray Anderson, both of Davie County; stepbrothers Chris Hamilton, Davidson County, and Charles Hamilton, Atlanta; sisters Shirley Dalton and Dianne Hargrave, both of Lexington, and Kim Mayfield, Mocksville.

Services: 4 p.m. Thursday, Mount Sinai AME Zion Church, Advance, conducted by Dr. A.M. Spaulding and the Rev. Julie Tillman. The body will be placed in the church at 3. Burial, church cemetery. Military rites by 11th District Color Guard.

Visitation: 3:30 p.m. at the church.

Elva Lowder Pollack

ALBEMARLE — Graveside services for Elva Celia Lowder Pollack, 48, 36264 Fredericksburg, Farmington Hills, Mich., were held this morning at Silver Springs Baptist Church cemetery, Norwood.

The Rev. Caroll Flack officiated.

A Stanly County native, Mrs. Pollack died Thursday (June 8, 2000) at her home.

Hartsell Funeral Home was in charge.

The family will be at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Homer Sides, 1329 Long Creek Drive.

 

Rev. Jerry W. Townsend

KANNAPOLIS — The Rev. Jerry W. Townsend, 71, 1200 Berkshire Drive, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Bernadine Marshall WIles

KANNAPOLIS — Funeral services were held Monday for Bernadine Marshall Wiles, 88, formerly of 235 Front St., who died Sunday (June 11, 2000) at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury after three years of declining health.

Born April 2, 1912, in Surry County, Mrs. Wiles was a daughter of the late William Marion and Lilly Bell Crowder Marshall. She had retired in 1992 after 54 years as the owner/operator of Centerview Taxi in Kannapolis.

Her husband, Edgar Leonard Wiles, died in 1970. A son, Larry Wiles, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughter Georgia Holmes, Kannapolis; son George Armond, Kannapolis; brother Thomas B. Marshall, Kannapolis; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services were held Monday at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. Brian LaFavor officiated.

Whitley’s Funeral Home was in charge.

Willie Mae Clark

ELLIJAY, Ga. — Willie Mae Ray “Mama Willie” Low Young Clark, 78, died Saturday (June 10, 2000) at her home in Ellijay. She was the mother of Sue Clark, Salisbury, N.C.

Funeral services were held at 11 this morning at Bernhardt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Maryville, Tenn.
