Lester Wells Clodfelter

KANNAPOLIS — Lester Wells Clodfelter, 79, 1003 E. 13th St., died Sunday (June 11, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a lengthy illness.

Born Jan. 16, 1921, in Iredell County, Mr. Clodfelter was a son of the late Milas William and Callie Estelle Jones Clodfelter. He worked for Standard Oil Co., Kannapolis, for 15 years and retired in 1990 after 28 years in the plumbing department at Cannon Mills, Plant 1.

A member of First Baptist Church, he was Sunday school secretary and chairman of the accounting committee. He was a charter member of Allen-Graham Lodge 695.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Florean Lovette Clodfelter; son Larry Wayne Clodfelter, Concord; daughter Nancy C. Hildreth, Kannapolis; sisters Zola Thompson, Kannapolis, and Louise Sisk, Ridgecrest; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Curtis Parker. Entombment, Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum. Masonic rites by Allen-Graham Lodge 695.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on East 13th Street.

Grace Cook Cabe

The funeral will be Tuesday for Grace Cook Cabe, 73, Salisbury, who died Friday (June 9, 2000) at her home.

Born Aug. 9, 1926, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Cabe was the daughter of the late Lola Little and George Manulis Cook. She attended the Cabarrus County schools and the Dan Mohr Real Estate School in Winston-Salem.

She was a retired partner with Davie Realty Co. and a member of Center United Methodist Church in Mocksville.

Her husband, James L. Cabe, died Sept. 13, 1984.

Survivors include son Don Rushen, Salisbury; brother Ray Cook, San Diego; sisters Lucy Troutman and Janice Joyner, both of Concord, Sally Troutman, Stanfield, Mildred Honeycutt, Locust, and Hassie Tucker, Albemarle; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Carolina Memorial Park, Concord, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Sherman Warner.

Fannie Moyle Furr

ALBEMARLE — The funeral is today for Fannie Moyle Furr, 91, 24724 Highway 52 S., who died Saturday (June 10, 2000) at the Albemarle Lutheran Home.

Born July 20, 1908, in Stanly County, Mrs. Furr was a daughter of the late John Matthew and Rosa Herrin Moyle. She was a homemaker.

Sons Paul Kenneth Furr and Doyle Lee Furr preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons Jay Van Furr, Cecil James Furr and Donnie Furr, all of Albemarle; daughters Bernice F. Thompson, Louise F. Holt, Dorothy F. Hopkins and Rose “Peggy” Furr Holt, all of Albemarle; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by Elder Charles Broadway. Burial, Herrins Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery, Mount Pleasant.

Willie ‘Shorty’ Godfrey

Willie “Shorty” James Godfrey, 59, 3129 Delkey Drive, Midwest City, Okla., a former Salisbury resident, died June 1, 2000, at Midwest Regional Medical Center in Midwest City.

Born Aug. 9, 1941, in Rowan County, Mr. Godfrey was a son of the late James Lee and Emma Godfrey. A graduate of Springfield High School, Springfield, Ohio, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a former member of the United House of Prayer for All People in Salisbury.

Survivors include wife Deborah Godfrey; son El-ahd (Brian) Godfrey, Atlanta; daughter Sbantal Godfrey, Oklahoma City, Okla.; brothers Arthur and Daniel Godfrey, both of Salisbury, Richard Godfrey, Newark, N.J., and Robert Godfrey, West Palm Beach, Fla.; and sisters Louise Burch, Hedy Greer and Sheila Godfrey, all of Salisbury, and Brenda Johnson and Denise Medley, both of Newark, N.J.

Services were held June 7 at Pollard Funeral Chapel, Oklahoma City, Okla. Burial was at Arlington Memory Gardens, Oklahoma City, Okla.

 

Jeffrey Lenn Kanipe

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Tuesday for Jeffrey Lenn Kanipe, 41, 4539 Sapp Road, who died Saturday (June 10, 2000) at his home.

Born Jan. 8, 1959, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Kanipe was a son of Bobby Lenn and Mary Sue Cline Kanipe, Kannapolis. Educated at Northwest Cabarrus High School, he was employed in Fieldcrest Cannon’s waste department. He was a member of Keller United Church of Christ.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include sister Paula Kanipe Ellison; and grandmother Edna Kanipe, Kannapolis.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Keller United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Robert Myers. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove.

Ruby Beaver Kimmer

The funeral will be Tuesday for Ruby Blanche Beaver Kimmer, 93, Salisbury, who died Saturday (June 10, 2000) at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury after four years of declining health.

Born June 29, 1906, in Boise, Idaho, Mrs. Kimmer was a daughter of the late John Walter and Nellie Suzanne Cress Beaver. She was educated in the Cabarrus County schools.

A member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant, she had retired as a seamstress at Rickman Manufacturing Co.

She was preceded in death by a son, Guy Edward Beaver; and a daughter, Edna Ferrell.

Survivors include daughters Juanita Hovis and Angie Null, both of Salisbury, and Shirley Hoilman, Alexandria, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Lyerly Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Carl Haynes, pastor, Christiana Lutheran Church, Granite Quarry. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Juanita Hovis.

 

Keith Edward Lentz

CHINA GROVE — Keith Edward Lentz, 22, China Grove, died Sunday (June 11, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on May 19, 2000.

Born Nov. 19, 1977, in Salisbury, he was the son of Jimmie and Suza G. Lentz, China Grove. He was a 1996 graduate of South Rowan High School. Employed with Dillard Distribution Center, he was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include maternal grandmother Lavana Garris, Salisbury Lutheran Home.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, New Hope Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Craig Edwards. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home of Rick and Lydia Perry, 345 Pamela St., Bostian Heights.

Memorials: New Hope Baptist Church, 830 Choate Road, Salisbury, N.C. 28146.

 

Samuel David Ramseur

NEWTON — The funeral is today for Samuel David Ramseur, 40, 315 S. Church St., who died Wednesday (June 7, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a lingering illness.

Born July 17, 1959, in Catawba County, Mr. Ramseur was a son of Virginia Ramseur, of the home and the late Allen Ramseur. He was a member of Glorious Church of God.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include sisters Kathyrn Sellers and Gloria Polk, both of Salisbury, and Dorothy Ramseur, Barbara Barker and Dolores Cowens, all of Newton; and brothers Ricky Ramseur, Salisbury, and Terry and Allen Ramseur Jr., both of Newton.

Services: 3 today at Mount Olive Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Pastor Ethel Mae Ramseur. Burial, Eastview Cemetery.

Visitation: 2-3 today at the church.

Allen Mitchell Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Richard ‘Dick’ Rose

MOCKSVILLE — Richard N. “Dick” Rose, 74, Crestview Drive, died Sunday (June 11, 2000) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Mr. Rose was born June 15, 1925, in Barrington, N.Y., son of the late Merton and Viola Florence Rose. Retired after 43 years with Ingersoll-Rand, he was instrumental in moving the facility from Painted Post, N.Y., to Mocksville. He also helped establish a division in Milan, Italy.

Survivors include wife Lois H. Rose; son Michael Rose, Mocksville; daughter Bonnie Simmons, Corning, N.Y.; brother Alton Rose, Corning, N.Y.; sisters Eleanor Green, Montour Falls, N.Y., and Alta Rockwell, Painted Post, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services: Private graveside services will be held at Rose Cemetery. The Rev. Jimmy Hinson will officiate.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Eaton Funeral Home.
