Grace Cook Cabe
Grace Cook Cabe, 73, of Salisbury died Friday (June 9, 2000) at her home.
Born Aug. 9, 1926 in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Cabe was the daughter of the late Lola Little Cook and George Manulis Cook Sr. She attended Cabarrus County schools and the Dan Mohr Real Estate School in Winston-Salem.
She was a retired partner of Center United Methodist Church in Mocksville.
Her her husband, James L. Cabe, died Sept. 13, 1984.
Survivors include son Don Rushen, Salisbury; brother Ray Cook, San Diego; sisters Lucy Troutman and Janice Joyner, both of Concord, Sally Troutman, Stanfield, Mildred Honeycutt, Locust, and Hassie Tucker, Albemarle; and three grandchildren.

Alyce Yzette Cates
ALBEMARLE — Alyce Yzette Cates, 53, of 1901 Woodhaven Drive, Albemarle, died Friday morning (June 9, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 27, 1946 in Stanly County, Ms. Cates was the daughter of Myrleen Merritt Cates Page and the late Earnest Franklin Cates. She was a disabled knitter and member of Devotion Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons Jerry Fraley Jr., Albemarle, and Sammy Joe Thompson, Charlotte; sister Brenda Allen, Kenner, La., brothers Johnny Alco Cates, Cleveland, and Richard Franklin Cates, Albemarle; and three grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Lawrence Walton. Burial, Anderson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Miriam Kennedy Crotts
ALBEMARLE — Miriam Kennedy Crotts, 83, of 625 Bethany Road died Friday (June 9, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 6, 1916 in Stanly County, Mrs. Crotts was the daughter of the late Walter Jordan and Emma Green Kennedy. She was a retired secretary for Wiscassett Mill Co. and a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was raised in Salisbury.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, Roy F. Crotts, and her first husband, John Jay Swindell.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay S. Cochran and Suzanne Surratt, both of Albemarle; brother Walter Kennedy Jr., Albemarle; sisters Emma Green Kennedy Morgan, Pittsboro, and Marguerite K. Velsor, Albemarle; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. today, Central United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ben Wilson. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park. Stanly Funeral Home is in charge.

Wiley Rayford “Ray” Ellis of 180 Heilightown Road, East Spencer, died Thursday (June 8, 2000) at Heritage Plantation.

Willard Egbert Foster
MOCKSVILLE — Willard Egbert Foster, 94, of Pleasant Acres Drive died Saturday (June 10, 2000) at The Oaks at Forsyth, Winston-Salem, after several months of declining health.
Born March 5, 1906 in Davie County, Mr. Foster was the son of the late Sara Garwood and Robert Ishmael Foster. He was a merchant, farmer and deacon of Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kate Langston Foster, whom he married June 11, 1933; and daughter Willo’dean T. Tenery, Mocksville.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jerusalem Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster. Burial, church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Fannie Moyle Furr
ALBEMARLE — Fannie Moyle Furr, 91, of 24724 U.S. 52 died Saturday evening (June 10, 2000) at the N.C. Lutheran Home, Albemarle.
Born July 20, 1908 in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Rosa Herrin Moyle and John Matthew Moyle. She was a homemaker and lifetime member of Primitive Baptist Church.
Her husband, Paul Furr, died Jan. 6, 1991.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Paul Furr and Doyle Furr.
Survivors include sons Jay Van Furr, Cecil James Furr and Donnie Furr, all of Albemarle; daughters Bernice F. Thompson, Louise F. Holt, Dorothy F. Hopkins and Rose Furr “Peggy” Holt, all of Albemarle; sister Flossie Moyle, Concord; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

Houlcie Melissie Mull Menius, 91, of 330 Menius Road, China Grove died Wednesday (June 7, 2000) at her home.
Born Nov. 24, 1908 in Cherokee County, Mrs. Menius was the daughter of the late Horace and Lastie Farrell Mull. She attended Georgia schools and worked 45 years as a cloth inspector for Cannon Mills. She attended Landis Baptist Church.
Her husband, Archie A. Menius, died March 27, 1984.
Survivors include daughters Rosa Lee Wensil, China Grove, and Dorothy Howard, Kannapolis; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Richard Alan Morris
Richard Alan Morris, 35, of 3835 Goodman Lake Road died unexpectedly Saturday (June 10, 2000) at his residence.
Born Sept. 30, 1964 in Kodiak, Alaska, Mr. Morris was the son of Alice Green Morris of Salisbury and the late Scott Lynden Morris.
He graduated from North Rowan High School and attended Western Carolina University and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. He worked for Draftex International. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and a former member of the Salisbury Moose Lodge.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Sherry Owens Morris, whom he married Nov. 19, 1988; daughter Lauren Hope Morris; and sister Deborah M. Mankey, Salisbury.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Providence United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Billy Summey. Burial, Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.

John Clifton Straughn
CLINTON —John Clifton Straughn, 91, of 3882 Needmore Road, Turkey, died Friday (June 9, 2000) at Sampson Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sampson County, Mr. Straughn was a son of the late Vander and Be Ellie Quinn Straughn. He retired from the old Spencer Shops.
Survivors include his wife, Cecil Weaver Straughn; sisters Betty Cane, Roseboro, Hattie S. Lamb, Concord, and Mary Elizabeth Bullington, Cordele, Ga.; brothers Harry Lee “Doc” Straughn, Warsaw, Henry Thomas Straughn, Delway, Perry J. “Doc” Straughn, Richlands, Louis Straughn, Wilmington, and Howard Straughn, Wilmington.

Ruth Eller Wyatt
Ruth Eller Wyatt, 84, formerly of 511 E. 20th St., Kannapolis, died Friday (June 9, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center following two years of declining health.
Born Feb. 17, 1916 in Bonntown, Va., she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Rebecca Boling Eller. She worked as a seamstress for Terry Products in Kannapolis, Stayon Products in Landis and Pioneer Manufacturing in Salisbury for a total of more than 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaither Pete Wyatt, who died Feb. 6, 1996, and six brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter.
Survivors include son Roy Wyatt, Kannapolis; brothers Bruce Eller, Salisbury, Richard Eller, Banner Elk, and Rufus Eller, Lenoir; sisters Ersie McGuire, Kannapolis, Georgia Stirewalt, China Grove, and Dorothy Fletcher, Wilkesboro; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Kluttz Yowell
Elizabeth Kluttz Yowell, 95, of Durham died Friday (June 9, 2000) at Hillcrest Convalescence in Durham after a lengthy illness.
Born June 5, 1905, in Rowan County, Mrs. Yowell was the daughter of the late Daisy Graeber Kluttz and Charles Harris Kluttz. She attended Salisbury Schools and Agnes Scott College and Salem College. She was a member of Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church in Durham.
Her husband, Robert Burgess Yowell, died in 1984.
Survivors include son Robert Kluttz, Durham; daughter Betty Anne Ellington, Greensboro; sisters Josephine Krider and Frances Fisher, both of Salisbury; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
