Martha Magruder Boger
ALBEMARLE — Martha Magruder Boger, 84, 1200 Flintshire Drive, died Tuesday (June 6, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 28, 1915, in Stanly County, Mrs. Boger was a daughter of the late Martin Augustus and Martha Shinn Boger. She was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a member of First Lutheran Church.
She had retired as a major in the U.S. Army, where she was a physical therapist. She was stationed in California, Hawaii, Valley Forge, Pa., and Germany.
Survivors include sisters Emily Boger Richards, Albemarle, and Virginia Boger Winget, Gastonia.
Services: 2 today, First Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. John W. Futterer. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Ethel Lee Burleson Bost
ALBEMARLE — Ethel Lee Burleson Bost, 80, 702 Coble Ave., died Wednesday (June 7, 2000) at her home.
Born June 25, 1919, in Stanly County, Mrs. Bost was a daughter of the late Ebb and Sarah Sides Burleson. She had retired as a self-employed day-care owner/operator. She was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church.
Survivors include husband Solomon Richard Bost Jr.; daughters Rickie Dennis, Donna Mabry, Shelia Cook and Lori Cole, all of Albemarle; brothers Claude and J.D. Burleson, both of Albemarle; sisters Bessie Culp, Badin, and Ruby Eudy, Mount Pleasant; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Sweet Home Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Bowers. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Coble Avenue.

Hubert Lee Bowers
ALBEMARLE — Hubert Lee Bowers, 80, Maryville, Tenn., a former Albemarle resident, died Monday (June 5, 2000) at Blount Memorial Hospital in Tennessee.
Mr. Bowers was a son of the late John and Flora Bowers. A veteran of the U.S. Marines, he had worked at Alcoa for several years. He also worked as a mechanic. He was a Mason and a member of Lamplight Full Gospel Church.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ruth Bowers; and sisters Essie Boone and Dessie Pennington, both of Albemarle.
Services were held June 6 at Smith Mortuary, West Chapel, with the Rev. Ronald Morton and the Rev. Donnie Morton officiating. Graveside rites were held at 11 this morning at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
Hartsell Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

CHINA GROVE — Ruth V. Edwards, 85, 916 N. Main St., died Thursday (June 8, 2000) at her home.

EAST SPENCER — The funeral will be Friday for Elizabeth Danielle Leggette, 13, 1525 N. Long St., who died Saturday (June 3, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after a week of serious illness.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury, conducted by Robert Reese, Northeast Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery, Salisbury.
Visitation: 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

CHINA GROVE — Houlcie Mull Menius, 91, died Wednesday (June 7, 2000) at her home.

Donald Lee Slaughter
KANNAPOLIS — Donald Lee Slaughter, 102 Olde Heritage Road, died Wednesday (June 7, 2000) at his home.
Born Nov. 17, 1940, Mr. Slaughter was a son of the late John Lee and Gladys Shive Slaughter. He was a 1959 graduate of A.L. Brown High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
A member of First Baptist Church, he taught Sunday school and served as usher, greeter, RA leader and RA basketball coach. In 1979, the First Baptist team won the state basketball championship under his leadership. He served on the 1998 South African mission team.
Mr. Slaughter worked for 39 years in the jewelry industry, including Willeford Jewelers, Sommers and Sommers, Southern Watch Supply and SDS and Associates. He was a charter member of the Eastern Jewelers Travelers Association, serving on the board for eight years and as president in 1996.
Survivors include wife Sylvia Hoce Slaughter; son Eric Lee Slaughter, Kernersville; daughters Donna Farrell, Mooresville, and Susan Pruitt, Greenville, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 4 today at Carolina Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Tom Cabannis. Memorial service, 6 p.m. Friday, First Baptist Church.
Visitation: 4:30-6 p.m. Friday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home.
