Dora Hopkins BellThe funeral will be
Thursday for Dora Hopkins Bell, 85, Salisbury, died Tuesday (June 6, 2000) at Rowan
Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health and a week of serious illness.
Born June 27, 1914, in Rowan County, Mrs. Bell was a
daughter of the late James Franklin and Hattie Parks Hopkins. Educated in the Rowan County
schools, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church and
the Homemakers Sunday School Class.
Her husband, George Washington Bell, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons George W. Sonny Bell
Jr., Winston-Salem, and Barry Franklin and Larry Allen Shorty Bell, both of
Salisbury; sisters Margaret Fesperman, Rockwell, and Audrey Edmundson, Salisbury; three
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Lyerly Funeral Home Chapel,
conducted by the Rev. Mark Anders, pastor, Stallings Memorial Baptist Church. Burial,
Rowan Memorial Park.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Hazel Youmans Harter
The funeral will be Thursday for Hazel Youmans Harter, 94,
700 Wiley Ave., who died Tuesday (June 6, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after
several years of declining health and a week of serious illness.
Born Nov. 14, 1905, in Fairfax, S.C., Mrs. Harter was a
daughter of the late Lawrence and May Mole Youmans. She was educated in the Fairfax, S.C.,
schools and majored in music at Columbia College.
A homemaker, she was a member of First United Methodist
Church, Salisbury, the United Methodist Women and Suzanna Wesley Sunday School Class.
Her husband, William Holbrook Harter, died Nov. 21, 1998;
son, William H. Harter Jr., died Feb. 6, 1990; and son, Julian Harter, died Aug, 24, 1958.
Survivors include daughter Anne H. Wilson, Salisbury;
sister Mary Alice Herlong, Leesburg, Fla.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren;
three step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Services: Memorial, 11 a.m. Thursday, First United
Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Griffis. Burial, City Memorial Park, 10:30
a.m. Thursday.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home. At
other times the family will be at the home of Anne H. Wilson, 426 Windsor Drive.

KANNAPOLIS Don L. Slaughter, 102 Olde Heritage Road,
died Wednesday (June 7, 2000) at his home.

Mary Propst Yost
Mary Propst Yost, 88, The Meadows of Rockwell, formerly of
Yost Road, died Tuesday (June 6, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born May 26, 1912, in Rowan County, Mrs. Yost, a daughter
of the late Bruner Titus and Annie Loucettie Propst, was educated in the Rowan County
schools. She was a homemaker and member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Walter White Yost, died Sept. 16, 1993.
Survivors include son Roy E. Yost, Salisbury; two
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, St. Pauls Lutheran Church,
conducted by the Rev. William Ketchie. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home,
China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home of granddaughter Lorie
Fesperman, 2001 Webb Road.

Mary Steele Snetter
Mary Steele Snetter, 64, 515 S. Shaver St., died Tuesday
(June 6, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born May 26, 1936, in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa, Mrs.
Snetter was a daughter of the late Joshua and Madia Wadahweh Steele. She was educated at
St. Teresa Convent, Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa. She was associated with Rowan
International Fellowship, L:iberian Association and was a deaconess and member of Rowan
County Liberian Club.
Survivors include sons Herbert Snetter, Philadelphia, Pa.,
Urisa Marshall and Henry, Edward and Hamlet Snetter, all of Monrovia, West Africa;
daughters Hanneral Snetter, Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa, and Theresa Snetter Norman and
Enid Snetter Moulton, both of Salisbury; brothers Samuel, Roosvelt and Issa Steele, all of
Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa, and Winston Taylor, Baltimore, Md.; sisters Ramell Steel,
Salisbury, Esther Steele Freeman, Philadelphia, Pa., and Charletta Taylor, Elsie Taylor
and Sarah Steele, all of Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa; 15 grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
