            Henry Coulter

LANDIS — Henry Coulter, 75, 1009 S. Zion St., died Saturday (July 29, 2000) in London, England.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Fred Leo Thompson

SPENCER — The funeral will be Tuesday for Fred Leo Thompson, 71, Charlotte, formerly of Spencer, who died Saturday (July 29, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, after an extended illness and two weeks of serious illness.

Services:Graveside, 11 a.m Tuesday, National Cemetery, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Rodney Hagans, minister of Central United Methodist Church.

Visitation:None.

Patrick Arthur Haley Jr.

Patrick Arthur Haley Jr., 84, Carillion Assisted Living, formerly of Brown Acres, died Sunday (July 30, 2000) at Rowan RegionalMedical Center.

Born Jan. 23, 1916, in Parkersburg, W.Va., he was a son of the late Virginia Croley and Patrick Arthur Haley. He was a graduate of Charleston High School and attended college in Charleston as well.

Mr. Haley served in the U.S. Air Force for 25 years and retired with the rank of major. He was a fighter pilot during World War II. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Evelyn Goad Haley, whom he married Jan. 11, 1968; sons Brian and Brent Haley, both of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Rick Haley, Largo, Fla.; stepdaughter Jeanie A. Doty, Salisbury; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services:Graveside, 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Forsyth Memorial Park, Winston-Salem, conducted by the Rev. Roger Head, minister of Friendship Baptist Church, and Randy Asycue, music director at Friendship Baptist Church. Military graveside rites by the Pope Air Force Base Honor Guard.

Visitation: None.

Mary Ruth Loftin

KANNAPOLIS — Mary Ruth Gregory Loftin, 72, formerly of 907 Jumiper St., died Sunday (July 30, 2000) at Genesis ElderCare, Salisbury, after six months of illness.

Born July 15, 1928, in Union County, she was a daughter of the late Josephine Gregory Riddles.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William B. Eidson, who died in 1969, and by her second husband, John W. Loftin, who died in 1991.

Survivors include daughters Ann Eidson Wayne, Davidson, Jane Kirk, Richfield, and Kay Hammill, Gold Hill; half brother William Coley, Statesville; half sisters Irene Link, Enochville, and Hazel Cato, Gastonia; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Barry Kemp. Burial, noon Wednesday, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation:6-7:30 Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Martha Peeler Stone

Martha Peeler Stone, 72, Salisbury, died Sunday (July 30, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Feb. 13, 1928, in Gold Hill, Mrs. Stone was a daughter of the late Lucile S. and Coy G. Peeler. A graduate of Rockwell High School, she attended Pheiffer Junior College and graduated from Appalachian State University in 1949 with a degree in education. She received a master’s degree in education from Duke University in 1956 and later did a year of graduate studies in reading at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla.

She taught in the Rowan-Salisbury schools, Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Raleigh schools for a total of 31years.

Mrs. Stone was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Kings Daughters Sunday School Class, a Sunday school teacher and a vacation Bible school teacher.

Survivors include husband Harry C. Stone Jr.; son David B. Stone, Raleigh; brother W. Ralph Peeler, Misenheimer; and sister Lois Surratt, Rose Hill.

Services:2 p.m. Tuesday, First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Phillip A. Cooley and the Rev. Keith Flippin. The body will be taken to the church at 1:30. Burial, City Memorial Park.

Visitation:7-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home.

Bobby Ray Wentz Jr.

KANNAPOLIS — Bobby Ray Wentz Jr., 39, 1105 Lee St., died Saturday (July 29, 2000)at his home after four months of illness.

Born June 6, 1961, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Wentz was the son of Alease Maready Wentz, Kannapolis. He was employed for eight years with the city of Kannapolis as a crew chief in the street department. He also worked at Williams Electric for 13 years.

Mr. Wentz was a member of Landis Baptist Church. President of the Cabarrus Amateur Radio Society, he was a VE tester for ham operators. His call sign was AE4ZQ.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Betty Randall Wentz; sons Darryl Scott and David Thomas Wentz, both of Kannapolis; and sisters Mary Jo Wentz and Sandra Melton, both of Kannapolis.

Services:11 a.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Gary Scoop. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
