Charlie Ball
CHINA GROVE — Charlie William Ball, 77, 1150 Highway 153, died Thursday (July 27, 2000) at the VA Medical Center in Durham.
Born Sept. 3, 1922, in Davie County, he was the son of the late Hester Cook and Lukey T. Ball. He was a graduate of Davie County High School.
A commercial and residential electrician, he was a disaster relief volunteer and a member of Rodgers Park Baptist Church, Kannapolis. He was a life member of VFW Post 8989, Kannapolis.
Survivors include wife Ruby Woodie Ball; sons Ronald Owen Easley, Salisbury, and Ray F. Thompson, Pennsylvania; daughter Robyn T. Flowers, Kannapolis; sisters Lena Everhardt, Mocksville, Libby Creason, Cooleemee, and Lucille Parker, Landis; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Dr. Stuart Brown
LEXINGTON — Dr. Stuart Rabb “Pockets” Brown, 72, Mount Pleasant, S.C., died Friday (July 28, 2000). He was formerly of Fairview Drive.
Born Feb. 11, 1928, in Davidson County, he was the son of the late William Howard and Clara Haynes Brown. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a former school administrator in South Carolina. He also spent nine years as a Methodist missionary in Zaire.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Brock Brown.
Survivors include daughters Karen Brown Johnson, Charleston, S.C., and Carol Brown Lebherz, Pawley’s Island, S.C.; sisters Mina Swicegood and Georgia Myers, both of Lexington; brothers Howard “Mace” Brown, Gastonia, and Carl Brown, Ringgold, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, First United Methodist Church, Lexiington, conducted by the Rev. Jill Alventosa-Brown. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

James Curlee
ALBEMARLE — James Cecil Curlee, 72, Dennis Road, died Friday (July 28, 2000) at Presbyterian-Orthopaedic Hospital, Charlotte.
Born Dec. 31, 1927, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Cora Hinson and Claude Lee Curlee. A retired fixer for Wiscassett Mills, he served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
A member of Porter Baptist Church, he was a former deacon, choir member and Royal Ambassador leader.
Surivors include wife Doris Louise Thompson Curlee; son Ricky Curlee, Albemarle, and Cecil Curlee, Norwood; daughter Mitzi London, Boone; brothers Clayton, Cletus “Pee Wee” and Willie J. Curlee, all of Norwood; and six grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. Monday, Porter Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Chris Wallace, the Rev. Raeford Cook and the Rev. FredHopkins. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Darian Drye
ALBEMARLE — Darian Derice Drye, 20, 425 Alfred St., died Thursday (July 27, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital as a result of an automobile accident.
Born Nov. 15, 1979, in Stanly County, he was the son of Janet Drye Butler, of the home, and Wilbert Butler Jr., Albemarle.
A graduate of Albemarle High School, he worked for D&L Water Conditioning. He attended Saints Delight Church.
He was preceded in death by sister Laconya Butler.
Survivors include sons Darian D. Drye Jr., Badin, and Brian Shankle, Norwood; brothers Steve Little, Mount Gilead, Travis Butler, Tyquis Butler, Cornelius Butler and Marqui Tyson, all of Albemarle, and Tom Talbert, Asheboro; and sisters Keondra S. Drye, Shywanna Tyson, Shernita Tyson, Tamera Butler and Shantaka Butler, all of Albemarle, Stephanie Little, Mount Gilead and Susan Talbert, Asheboro.

Hattie Helms
KANNAPOLIS — Hattie Jordan Helms, 95, formerly of 534 Collins St., died Friday (July 28, 2000) at Rehab Nursing Center in Monroe.
Born Feb. 11, 1905, in Union County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas S. and Ida Helms Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Alexander Helms, and daughters Frances Jones and Pauline Griffin.
Survivors include son Robert L. Helms, Marshville; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mary Snuggs Henderson
ALBEMARLE — Mary Lily Snuggs Henderson, 91, 211 N. Third St., died Thursday (July 27, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1909, she was the daughter of the late William Frank and Hallie Dixon Shankle Snuggs. A former secretary for Dr. George E. Eddins, she served as secretary and treasurer for Central United Methodist Church for more than 35 years. She was also a member of the church choir for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Henderson.
Survivors include daughters Jenny Henderson, Wilmington, Sara Koogle, Thurmont, Md., and Mary Butler, Albemarle; brothers Henry Hugh Snuggs, Albemarle, and Jay Lewis Snuggs, Smyrna, Tenn.; and three granddaughters.

Lula Hutchins
MOCKSVILLE — Lula Bell Hutchins, 76, Redland Road, died Friday (July 28, 2000) at her home.
Born July 17, 1924, in Wilkes County, she was the daughter of the late Mary Emma Reavis and William Branson Clore.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include son Timothy L. Foster, Advance; daughter Patricia Hutchins Clemmons; brothers Grady, Roy and James Clore; sister Hattie Sizemore; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Bill Livengood
LEXINGTON — Billy “Bill” Leonard Livengood, 62, 263 College Lane, died Thursday (July 27, 2000) at his home after a three-month struggle with lung cancer.
Born Oct. 24, 1937, in Davie County, he was the son of the late Odell and Martha Leonard Livengood. An employee of Becon Construction in Salisbury, he also spent many years in heating and air-conditioning installation in Lexington.
He was a member of Fork Baptist Church, where he was an usher and a member of the building and grounds committee.
Survivors include wife Elizabeth Pullen B. Livengood; sons Billy L. Livengood, Jr., Lexington, Bert Billings, Carolina Beach, and Rick Billings, Charlotte; daughters Dianne L. Floyd, Kennesaw, Ga., and Melodie B. McDade, Lexington; brothers Jerry and Carlton Livengood, both of Lexington, and Eugene Livengood, Henderson; sisters Becky L. Lookabill, Pansy Livengood, Doris Wood, Patsy Myers, Rita James, Judy Queen and Kathy Leonard, all of Lexington; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Born Oct. 25, 1950, in Iredell County, he was the son of John R. Triplet Jr. and Marie Triplet Collins, both of Mooresville. He was an employee of Duke Power Co.
