Garden game: 2-pound tomato part of bumper crop

BY JILL McCARTNEY
SALISBURY POST

This summer, the Garden Game has seen a number of tomatoes. One had a nose, another was shaped like a duck, but none was as big as today’s entry.

Polly Bost, of 312 Bost Circle, has grown tomatoes each summer she’s lived in Rockwell, but this year is the best.

“That’s the biggest I’ve ever grown,” she said of her 2-pound tomato, grown on a seven-foot stalk.

She grows tomatoes and cucumbers, cans them and gives them to neighbors. So far this summer, she’s canned nine quarts of pickles.

“I never in my life saw so many,” she said.

Bost married her husband, Spencer, in February 1995. He still co-owns and works at Rockwell Radio Electric.

As far as the garden goes, “this is my hobby,” she said.
