Louise ‘Sue’ Wyatt Bame

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Wednesday for Louise “Sue” Wyatt Bame, 73, 1607 Pinfish Lane, Carolina Beach, formerly of 1540 N. Main St., China Grove, who died Sunday (July 23, 2000) at Mariner Health Care Center, Wilmington.

Born May 4, 1927, in Rowan County, Mrs. Bame was a daughter of the late Arthur C. and Bertha Propst Wyatt. She was educated in the Rowan County schools.

Retired, she had worked as an operator with Concord Telephone Co. She was a Methodist.

Survivors include husband Jack M. Bame; sons Brad Bame, China Grove, Jack Bame Jr., Kannapolis, Jeff Bame, Wilmington, and Chris Bame, Morganton; daughter Sandra Menius, Salisbury; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home Chapel, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Rusty Inman, pastor, First United Methodist Church. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Brad Bame, 1530 N. Main St.

Mary Elizabeth Banks

LEXINGTON — Mary Elizabeth “Doll Baby” Banks, 50, Foyell Street, died Sunday (July 23, 2000) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 22, 1949, in Davidson County, Miss Banks was a daughter of Hershel Honel Banks and Gendora Smith Banks of Lexington. She was employed at Young &Hinkle finishing room and was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

Additional survivors include husband Joe Richardson; brothers Percy Banks, Greensboro, and Larry and Tony Banks, both of Lexington; and sister Donese B. Gaskins, Winston-Salem.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Morrison-Studevent Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. James Gaskins.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on FoyellStreet.

 

Ethel Littleton Bridges

The funeral will be Thursday for Ethel Littleton Bridges, 90, Salisbury, who died Thursday (July 20, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after two weeks of illness.

Born Jan. 12, 1910, in Rowan County, Mrs. Bridges was a daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Nettie Miller Littleton. She was educated in the Rowan County schools. She and her late husband, Marshall A. Bridges, owned and operated Bridges Brothers Grocery Store.

Mrs. Bridges was a member of Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church and a volunteer with the wives of VA Medical Center patients.

Survivors include brothers William Bernard “Red” Littleton and Jimmie Dan Littleton, both of Salisbury; and sister Frances Kiser, Landis.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Summersett Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Kelley, pastor, Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Randy Lee Hicks

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Randy Lee Hicks, 45, 7085 Unity Church Road, who died Sunday (July 23, 2000) from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born June 22, 1955, in Davidson County, Mr. Hicks was a son of Janie Kinley Hicks and the late J.R. Hicks. A Baptist, he was educated in the Davidson County schools.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Deborah S. Hicks; daughter Robin Sue Hicks, Kannapolis; and brothers Gregory W. and Jeffrey Hicks, both of Thomasville.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Holly Hill Cemetery, Thomasville, conducted by the Rev. Keith Letterman.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Tammy Aronda, 180 Westen Acres.

 

Emma Martin Hoffman

HAMPTONVILLE — Emma Martin Hoffman, 89, Arnold Road, died Monday (July 24, 2000) at Yadkin Nursing Center.

Born July 12, 1911, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Hoffman was a daughter of Obadiah and Cora Bumgardner Martin. A homemaker, she was a Baptist.

A son, Kenneth R. Hoffman, preceded her in death.

Survivors include husband Paul Hoffman; sisters Myrtle Martin and Ila Mae Myers, both of Salisbury; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Eaton Funeral Home Chapel, Mocksville. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Glennie Lee Honeycutt

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral is today for Glennie Clara Lee Honeycutt, 88, Big Elm Retirement Center, who died Monday (July 24, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after three years of declining health and three days of serious illness.

Born June 16, 1912, in Anson County, Mrs. Honeycutt, a daughter of the late James Van and Annie Luther Lee, was educated in the Anson County schools. She had been employed with Cannon Mills Co., Plant 1, No. 6 weave room for 45 years.

A member of First Baptist Church, Kannapolis, she was active with the King’s Daughters Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Honeycutt was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. William Benson King, who died Jan. 19, 1981.

Survivors include sons Calvin D. Honeycutt, Kannapolis, and Robert L. Honeycutt, Idaho; daughter Ruby HoneycuttEfird, Albemarle; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 8 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Tom Cabaniss. Graveside, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Calvin Honeycutt, 609 N. Little Texas Road.

Willard ‘Bill’ Howard

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Willard Monroe “Bill”Howard, 90, formerly of 204 S. Rose Ave., who died Monday (July 24, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a brief illness.

Born Nov. 19, 1909, in Swain County, Mr. Howard was a son of the late William Sylvanus and Millie Kilpatrick Howard. He had been employed at Cannon Mills Co., Plant 1 weave room for many years prior to his 1978 retirement. He was a member of Centerview Baptist Church.

His wife, Eva Owings Howard, died Jan. 2, 1999. A son, Willard M. “Bill” Howard Jr., also preceded him in death.

Survivors include sister Alma Howard Marshall, Clearwater, Fla.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Willie Rash. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

Robert Lee ‘Bobby’ Kepley

The funeral will be Wednesday for Robert Lee “Bobby”Kepley, 51, 311 Birdie Drive, who died Sunday (July 23, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 8, 1948, in Salisbury, Mr. Kepley was a son of Walter A. Kepley and Katherine Crosby Kepley of Salisbury and the late Beatrice Link Kepley. He was educated in Salisbury schools.

Owner and operator of Rolling Hills Golf Club and Bobby’s Trucking Co., he served in the U.S. National Guard. He was a member of Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church and a supporter of the Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief Organization.

Survivors, in addition to his father and stepmother, include daughter Amy Kepley,Salisbury; brother Walter A. “Buddy”Kepley Jr., Salisbury; and sister Bonnie Sue Eagle,Salisbury.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Summersett Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Kelley, pastor, Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church, the Rev. Carroll Robinson, Lebanon Lutheran Church, Cleveland, and the Rev. Benny Hillard, Landmark Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Cornelia Broome King

ALBEMARLE — Cornelia Broome King, 86, 625 Bethany Road, died Monday (July 24, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born April 17, 1914, in Union County, Mrs. King was a daughter of the late Washington Lee and Berline Moser Broome. A retired nurse, she was a charter member of Church of the Nazarene.

Her husband, the Rev. William Benson King, died Jan. 19, 1981.

Survivors include sons Gary O. King and William B. King Jr., both of Albemarle; daughter Loutee King Broome, Albemarle; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Turner and the Rev. Reese English. Entombment, Fairview Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Mary Ann Pressley

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Mary Ann Pressley, 66, 2807 Florida Ave., who died Sunday (July 23, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born April 16, 1934, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Pressley retired in 1996 after 30 years from Fieldcrest-Cannon, Inc., Plant 6, sheet department.

She was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church, where she was active with Acteens for 30 years, director of the nursery and active in various phases of church activities. She was also a den mother with Cub Scouts for many years and a frequent visitor at area rest homes and nursing homes.

Survivors include husband of 47 years Charlie Pressley; son W.C. Pressley Jr., Concord; daughters Cherie Darlene Lawson, Mount Olive, Pamela Diana Scheffer, Kannapolis, and Sarah Jane Burris, Midland; brother Johnny Gray, Concord; sister Edna Evans, Mount Pleasant; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 8 p.m. Thursday, North Kannapolis Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bewey Shaver and the Rev. Richard Keasler. Burial, 11 a.m. Friday, West Concord Cemetery,Concord.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home on Florida Avenue.
