Obituaries

            Georgia Mae Banks

MOORESVILLE —The funeral was this morning for Georgia Mae Banks, 76, Highway 150, who died Saturday (July 14, 2000) at Davis Medical Center, Statesville.

Born May 24, 1924, in Sylva, Mrs. Banks was a daughter of the late Pat and John Wesley Gibbs. She was a cafeteria worker with Mooresville City Schools.

A daughter, Connie Banks, preceded her in death.

Survivors include husband Bill Banks; sons James Banks, Hiddenite, John Banks, York, S.C., and Michael Banks, Mooresville; daughter Linda Radford, Salisbury; brother Vernon Gibbs, Calhoun, Ga.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 this morning at Troutman Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Frank Smith. Burial, New Perth ARP Cemetery, Troutman.

Troutman Funeral Home, Troutman, is in charge.

Helen Dudley Beaver

MOCKSVILLE — Helen Dudley Beaver, Spring Street, died Sunday (July 16, 2000) after a period of declining health. She was the widow of the late Norman Beaver.

Eaton Funeral Service is in charge.

 

Michelle Hopkins Durette

The funeral will be Tuesday for Michelle Hopkins Durette, 29, 175 Beck Road, who died Saturday (July 15, 2000) at her home.

Born July 9, 1971, in Mocksville, Ms. Durette was a daughter of Lynn and Judy Zimmerman Hopkins, with whom she made her home. A graduate of North Rowan High School, Spencer, she was a member of First Baptist Church, Spencer.

She was formerly employed with Wallace Realty, before staying home as a caregiver for her father.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include son Nicolas Lee Durette, of the home; maternal grandparents Bill and Ann Sides Zimmerman, Salisbury; maternal great-grandmother Nola Zimmerman, Salisbury; and paternal grandparents Melvin and Sara Honeycutt Hopkins, Salisbury.

Services: Memorial, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Franklin Myers, pastor, First Baptist Church,Spencer, and Dr. Rick Cockerham, pastor, Calvary Baptist Church. The body will be cremated.

Visitation: At the funeral home after the service.

Winfred ‘Ike’ Randall Dyer

EDEN — Winfred “Ike” Randall Dyer, 70, 410 Roberts Road, father of Debbie Overby, Salisbury, died Sunday (July 16, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, El Bethel Presbyterian Church. Burial, Ridgeview Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Fair Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Roberts Road.

Memorials: Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Leukemia Research, Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27157.

 

Nell Myers Foster

Nell Myers Foster, 73, Salisbury, died Sunday (July 16, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health and a week of serious illness.

Born May 7, 1927, in Burke County, Mrs. Foster was a daughter of the late Roy Lee and Esmarelda Shook Myers. She was a graduate of the Rowan County schools and attended Pfeiffer College. She had been employed byRose’s Department Store for 15 years before retiring in 1990.

She was a member of Southside Baptist Church, a life member of Hudson Miller Tatum VFWPost 3006, and a Gold Star Mother of the VFW. She was also a member of DAV Unit 27, Concord, and Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Auxiliary.

Her husband, O’Neal Spencer Foster, died Oct. 10, 1990, and a son, Larry Hulsey, died while serving in Vietnam in 1968.

Survivors include son Timothy Neal Foster, Statesville; daughter Barbara F. Lomax, Salisbury; sisters Mary M. Crisco, Landis, and Virginia M. Carrick, High Point; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Rick Brown, pastor, Southside Baptist Church. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Barbara F. Lomax, 120 Jibsail Road.

Annie Griffin Grant

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral is today for Annie Griffin Grant, 73, 1819 Lane St., who died Saturday (July 15, 2000) at her home.

Born Dec. 10, 1926, in Rock Hill, S.C., Mrs. Grant was a daughter of the late Emsley C. and Mary Jane Hilton Griffin. She had retired in 1974 from Cannon Mills Co., wash cloth department after 20 years.

Survivors include husband Walter Harold Grant, Kannapolis; daughters Teresa Robbins, Greensboro, and Lana Hammill, Gold Hill; brother E.C. Griffin, Kannapolis; sisters Marlene Brooks, Harrisburg, and Thelma Childers, Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.

Services: 2 today, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jim Howard and the Rev. Donna Wise. Burial,Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1-2 today at the funeral home.

Mary Hicks

KANNAPOLIS — Mary Trivette Hicks, 94, 301 Spring Garden Ave., died Sunday (July 16, 2000) at Avante of Concord.

Born July 30, 1905, in Avery County, Mrs. Hicks was a daughter of the late LeroyR. and Mary Etta Gwyn Trivette. She had retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 1 No. 6 weave room and was a member of Kannapolis Church of Christ.

Her husband, Millard Hicks, and sons, John V. and Edward Hicks, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sisters Annie Bailey, Dallas, Texas, and Martha Hodges, Kannapolis; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Kirk D. Sams. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.
