Virginia ‘Grace’Bolden
ROCKWELL — Virginia “Grace” Bolden, 13, Rockwell, died Friday (July 14, 2000) at Providence Memorial Hospital, El Paso, Texas, after a two week illness.
Born Oct. 2, 1986, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of Rose Reid and Kenneth Darryl Bolden, both of Rockwell. She had finished the seventh grade at Colegio Binimea in Chihuahua, Mexico.
She was a member of Grace Bible Church. Her parents are missionaries with New Tribes Mission.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include brothers William Darryl Bolden and Zachary Bolden, both of the home; sister Rachel Bolden, of the home; grandparents Calvin and Sherry Reid, Rockwell, Quentin and Charlene Manning, Newport, and Kenneth Bolden, Winston-Salem; great-grandparents Grace Reid, Rockwell, James and Alta Mabe, Winston-Salem, and Robert Cranfield, Salisbury.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Grace Bible Church, conducted by the Rev. Alan Misenheimer, pastor. Burial, church cemetery.

Michelle Hopkins Durette, 29, Salisbury, died Saturday (July 15, 2000)at her residence.

Elsie Mae Grubb Rimer
SPENCER — Elsie Mae Grubb Rimer, Spencer, died Thursday (July 13, 2000) at the Salisbury Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.
Born Dec. 16, 1907, in Davidson County, Mrs. Rimer was a daughter of the late Theresa Orrell and Henry W. Grubb. Educated in the Spencer schools, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Rimer was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Dorcas Sunday School Class, WELCA and the Crowell Circle. She was also a member of the Spencer Women’s Club.
Her husband, James Lafayette Rimer, died Oct. 18, 1983.
Survivors include sons James L. Rimer Jr., Spartanburg, S.C., and Dr. Bobby A. Rimer, Ennice; brother Foy Grubb, Durham; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Calvary Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. O. Ralph Kraft Jr., pastor. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Nellie Blevins Sills
MOCKSVILLE —Nellie Blevins Sills, 59, Gladstone Road, died Saturday (July 15, 2000) at Kate Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, after a short period of declining health.
Born April 17, 1941, in Bluefield, W.Va., Mrs. Sills was a daughter of the late Ollie Sadler and Jerome Blevins. A graduate of Salisbury Beauty School, she was a beautician for many years.
Mrs. Sills was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy of Mocksville, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the church choir.
Her first husband, James O. Marrs, died in 1986.
Survivors include husband Edward Sills; sons Mike, Jerry, Jimmy, Grant and Billy Marrs, all of Mocksville; brothers Jessie Blevins, Mocksville, Bill E. Blevins, Hilliard, Fla., J.C. Blevins, Mayberry, W.Va., and David Blevins, Anawalt, W.Va.; sisters Florence Miller, Dolly McCain and Martha Ferguson, all of Mocksville, Virginia Simpkins, Modesto, Calif., and Jane Lester, Terre Haute, Ind.; and seven grandchildren.
Services:11 a.m. Monday, Eaton Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Blaine Possinger. Burial, Rose Cemetery.

Virginia Hunter Thomas
KANNAPOLIS —Virginia Hunter Thomas, 74, 321 Rice St., died Thursday (July 13, 2000)at her residence.
Born March 20, 1926, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Thomas was a daughter of the late Ed Hunter and Carrie Hunter Butler. She was employed with the Belk Beauty Salon.
Survivors include husband Hilbert Thomas, Spencer; son Johnny Lee Thomas, Kannapolis; daughter Mae Willie Connon, Woodleaf; sisters Amanda Singleton, Kannapolis, and Mattie Clarborne, Monroe; brothers Howard, Edward and O’Neal Butler, all of Kannapolis; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
Services:2 p.m. Monday, Clark Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Harry Gaston. Burial, Rosehill Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.
Visitation: 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence.
Mary Louise Lowder Turner
ALBEMARLE —Mary Louise Lowder Turner, 83, 217 Circle Drive, died Saturday (July 15, 2000)at the Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 1, 1916, in Stanly County, Mrs. Turner was a daughter of the late Daisy Fisher and Jonah Pierce Lowder. She had retired as a winder at Wiscassett Mills.
Her husband, Henry Judson Turner, died Jan. 21, 1994, and a daughter, Shelvia Rummage, died February 1986.
Survivors include son Richard Turner, Norwood; daughter Dolly Turner, Albemarle; brothers Clyde and Jimmy Lowder, both of Albemarle; sisters Edith Lowder, Betty Ingold and Shirley Thorpe, all of Albemarle; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services: 3 p.m. today, Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Vaughn and the Rev. Jessie R. Dennis. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle.

Lucille Kennedy Thomas
CHINA GROVE — Lucille Kennedy Thomas, 85, formerly of China Grove, died Thursday (July 13, 2000) at Plantation Estates in Matthews.
Born May 1, 1915, in Tattnall County, Ga., Mrs. Thomas was a daughter of the late Alex S. and Jean Bazemore Kennedy. A graduate of Reidsville (Ga.) High School, she was a secretary at L.B. Thomas Furniture Co. for 20 years.
A member of First Baptist Church in China Grove, she served as choir director and soprano soloist for 35 years. She was an active member of the Ladies’ Circle.
She was also a member of the Pierian Book Club.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, L.B. Thomas; daughter Brenda T. Monteith, Charlotte; brother Lucius Kennedy, Orange Park, Fla.; sister Clara Riggs, Manassas, Ga.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, First Baptist Church, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Ed Daniel and the Rev. Bobby Seagrove. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial service, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Plantation Estates, Matthews.
