Hugh Culverhouse Julian
Hugh
Culverhouse Julian, 90, of Salisbury, died Friday (July 7,
2000) at his residence following a prolonged illness.
Born on Nov.
24, 1909, in Rowan County, Mr. Julian was a son of the late
Lottie Cauble and Robert “ Bob” Locke Julian.
He was a
graduate of Boyden High School and attended Catawba College,
where he was a member of the 1930 football team that went
undefeated. He played professional football following
college.
Following a
family tradition he worked for Southern Railway for 30
years. After the closing of the Spencer Shops, he went to
work for the city of Salisbury.
The
roundhouse at the North Carolina Transportation Museum is
named for his father.
He was a
lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Survivors
include: wife, Dorothy Shuler Julian, whom he married on
Aug. 16, 1931; sons, Hugh B. Julian and Mike Julian, both of
Salisbury, and Barrett Julian, Lexington; daughter, Becky
Broughton, Greensboro; 12 grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren.
Services: 2
p.m. Monday at Summersett Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by
the Revs. John Tucker and Jennifer Ginn, associate ministers
of St. John’s Lutheran Church; burial in Rowan Memorial
Park.
Visitation:
7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CHINA GROVE
— Nancy Elizabeth Gardner Page, 41, 794 Wilson St., China
Grove, died Friday (July 7, 2000) in Kannapolis.
Born on Feb.
11, 1959, in Rowan County, Mrs. Page was a daughter of John
Thomas Crawford and Ishmael Rogers Gardner of Kannapolis.
Survivors, in
addition to her parents, include: husband, Robert Lee Page,
China Grove; sons, Dwayne Carter, Mooresville, and
Christopher Page, China Grove; daughter, Shannon Elizabeth
Carter, Kannapolis; brothers, Jerry Mason Gardner and Thomas
Hoyce Gardner, both of Kannapolis, and Lynn Reed Gardner,
Conover.
Services:
Memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Episcopal
Church, conducted by the Rev. Harold Elsner.
Visitation:
6-8 p.m. today at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord. The family
will make headquarters at the home of Jerry Gardner, 804
East 22nd St., Kannapolis.

Rosetta Burris
ALBEMARLE —
Essie Rosetta Burris, 85, 625 Bethany Road, died Friday
(July 7, 2000) at Stanly Manor.
Born July 13,
1914, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Burris was a daughter of the
late Mary Lula and James Allen Burris. She was a homemaker
and a member of Hillside Baptist Church.
She was
preceded in death by husbands William Bennett Sides and
Grady Vester Burris, and a daughter, Bennie S. Frick.
Survivors
include daughter Jeannette Hopkins, Albemarle; brother Laton
Burris, New London; half sisters Margie Bonds, Lessie Bost,
both of Albemarle, Evelyn Cook, Doris Kirk, Millie Little
and Dorothy Murph, all of New London; half brothers Earl and
Elbert Burris, both of Albemarle; five grandchildren; and
eight great-grandchildren.

Zebulon B.
Morgan
HAMPTON, VA.
— Zebulon B. Morgan, 82, of Peninsula, died Friday (July
7, 2000) at his home.
A native of
Rowan County, N.C., he had loved most of his life on the
Peninsula. He retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding
& Dry Dock Co. in 1980 after 38 years of service.
Among the
survivors is a son, Zebulon B. Morgan Jr. of Charlotte.
