Beatrice Davis-Grant

LOUISVILLE, KY. — Beatrice Pauline Davis-Grant, 77, died June 7, 2000, after a brief illness.

Born March 2, 1923, in Salisbury, Mrs. Davis-Grant was a daughter of the late Maude and Harrison Davis. A graduate from Price High School, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Rowan Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Davis-Grant was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Salisbury, where she was an active member of the senior usher board and the Willing Workers. She spent most of her life in Salisbury until her health declined in 1996 and she moved to Louisville to live with her son and daughter-in-law.

Survivors include son Charlton C. Grant, Louisville; daughter Charmaine A. Bouler, Charlotte; step-son Ernest D. Grant, Washington, D.C.; step-daughter Janice H. Hodge, Upper Marlboro, Md.; sister Virginia Davis-Worthy, Salisbury; brothers Harrison Davis II, Hampton, Va., Clarence Davis, Philadelphia, Pa., Bishop James A. Davis, East Palo Alto, Calif., and Dr. Samuel C. Davis, Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Davis-Grant was buried at Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville.

 

Jo Ann Fulk Hall

CHINA GROVE — Jo Ann Fulk Hall, 62, of 950 Highway 29, died Monday (July 3, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord.

Born Jan. 21, 1938, in Walnut Cove, Hall was the daughter of the late Lacie Smith Fulk and Walter Lee Fulk Sr.

She was a graduate of Walnut Cove High School and a member of Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church in Pinnacle. Hall was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, cake decorating, traveling, crafts, playing ball and bowling.

Survivors include husband Roy Clinton Hall, China Grove; daughters Deborah Jo Marr, Charlotte and Sheila Ann Partin, Walnut Cove; stepdaughter Beverly Kaye Smith, Tobaccoville; brother Daniel Eugene Fulk, Lawsonville; sisters Janie Sue Willard, Walnut Cove, and Helen Elizabeth Welch, Martinsville; six grandchildren and one great- grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m., Thursday, graveside, Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church, lead by Elder Weldon Joyce. Burial at Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. The remainder of the time the family will be at the home on U.S. 29.

Charles Herman Lane

BLOWING ROCK — Charles Herman Lane, 77, 412 Wonderland Drive, a former resident of Salisbury, died Sunday (July 2, 2000) at Watauga Medical Center, Boone.

Born April 10, 1923, in Raleigh, Mr. Lane was a son of the late Vernon and Ollie Mae Gray Lane. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired maintenance supervisor from Dupont in Old Hickory, Tenn.

Mr. Lane was a member of O’Connell United Methodist Church, Goodlettsville, Tenn.

Survivors include wife Peggy Young Lane; son Charles Lane Jr., Blowing Rock; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services: Graveside, 11 this morning, Reform Church cemetery, Blowing Rock, conducted by the Rev. Burl Greer.

Hampton Funeral Service in Boone is in charge.

 

Gladys Mae Mills

KANNAPOLIS — Gladys Mae Birmingham Mills, 88, of Kannapolis, died Monday (July 3, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord after a serious illness of two months.

Born Dec. 2, 1911, in Union County, Mrs. Mills was a daughter of the late John W. and Thelma Brewer Birmingham.

She was a homemaker for most of her life and a member of Temple Independent Baptist Church. She was a resident of the area for the past 60 years.

Her husband, John C. Mills, died in 1985.

Survivors include son John D. Mills, Kannapolis; daughters Rosa M. Hancock and Jackie A. Rowell, both of Kannapolis; brother Brice Birmingham, Monroe; sister Josephine Griffin, Kannapolis; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Terry Deitz and the Rev. Larry Beaver. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1:30-3 p.m., Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of daughter Rosa Hancock, 100 Hemlock Ave.

Memorials: Temple Independent Baptist Church, 201 E. 12th Street, Kannapolis, N.C. 28083.

 

Raymond ‘Pop’ Sandora

COOLEEMEE — Raymond Thomas “Pop” Sandora, 71, of Duke Street, died Monday (July 3, 2000) at his home.

Born Sept. 12, 1928, in Portland Maine, Mr. Sandora was a son of the late Michael and Maria Sandora.

He retired from S.D. Warren Co. with 33 years as a colorist and enjoyed graphic arts and jazz music. He attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Mocksville.

Survivors include son Raymond J. Sandora, Cooleemee; daughters Maria S. Rutter, Cooleemee, and Te Santoro, Portland, Maine; brother Joseph Sandora, Westbrook, Maine; sisters Angelina Sandora and Ann Webber, both of Portland, Maine; and two grandchildren.

Services: A memorial service will be announced later. The body will be cremated.

Memorials: Kingdom Hall, Jehovah’s Witness, Sanford Avenue, Mocksville, N.C. 27028.
