at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
BornMarch 27, 1931, in Stanly County, Mrs. Dennis
was a daughter of the late Oscar and Flora Belle Furr Burris. A Wal-Mart greeter, she was
a member of Mountain View Baptist Church and Three Rivers Quilt Club. She did volunteer
work with Cub Scout Pack 50.
Her husband, James Julius Hoss Dennis,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Jerry James Dennis,
Albemarle; daughters Linda Hilton, Rock Hill, S.C., Lois Roland and Judy Fraley, both of
New London, Veronica Ingram, Norwood, Doris Davis, Round Rock, Texas, and Tammy Dennis,
Albemarle; brothers Lewis Burris, New London, and Ted Burris, Concord; 18 grandchildren;
and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. today, Mountain View Baptist
Church, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Huneycutt, the Rev. Steve Tucker and the Rev. David
E. Howard. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory. Visitation was Thursday night.
The family will be at the fellowship hall of the
church.

David Franklin Elliott
The funeral will be today for David Franklin
Elliott, 75, 1260 E. Ridge Road, who died Thursday (Jan. 27, 2000) at his home.
Born Jan. 13, 1925, in Rowan County, Mr. Elliott
was a son of the late David Franklin and Pearl Cauble Elliott. A graduate of Spencer High
School, he had retired from Home Oil Co. in 1987. He served in the U.S. Army during World
War II.
Survivors include wife Vera Thomason Elliott, whom
he married May 22, 1948; son David Steven Elliott, Salisbury; daughter Cynthia Diane
Elliott, Hendersonville; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

4, 1604 Heather Glen Road, died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at the University of North
Carolina Hospital, Chapel Hill, of complications after a bone marrow transplant.

LANDIS Gloria Plott Hager, 70, 455 Old
Shallowford Bridge Road, Sunset, S.C., died Thursday (Jan. 27, 2000) at her residence
after six years of declining health. She was a former Landis resident.
Born Feb. 10, 1929, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Hager
was a daughter of the late Ila McAnulty and Claude O. Plott. Educated in the Cabarrus
County schools, Mrs. Hager attended Appalachian College.
She was formerly employed in the supply room at
Linn Mill (Dominion Yarn). She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Landis.
Her husband, Owen A. Hager, died Jan. 6, 1989.
Survivors include son Alex Hager, Tallahassee,
Fla.; daughter Dawn Hager Atwell, Sunset, S.C.; brother Dean Plott, Fleetwood; sister
Vicki Plott Dail, Greenboro; and four grandchildren.

Jacobs was a daughter of the late William Patterson and Florence Elizabeth Oliver. She was
a homemaker and a member of Badin Baptist Church.

preceded her in death.

Theodore P. Leonard
LEXINGTON Theodore Pleasant Leonard, 80,
Greensboro Street Extension, died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at Lexington Memorial Hospital
after a week of illness. He was a former president of Catawba College.
Born Aug. 11, 1919, in Davidson County, Mr.
Leonard was a son of the late Carrie Siceloff and P. James Leonard. Retired as teacher,
principal and assistant superintendent with the Lexington City Schools, he had also taught
at Granite Quarry and Reeds.
A graduate of Lexington High School and Catawba
College, Mr. Leonard received a masters degree from the University of North Carolina
at Greensboro. He also received an honorary doctorate of letters from Catawba College in
1976. He was Catawbas 17th president.
A member of First Reformed United Church of
Christ, Mr. Leonard was a lifelong member of the consistory. A trustee of the church, he
had taught the Ladies Bible Class at the church for 40 years.
He was a member and past president of the
Lexington Kiwanis Club and the Salvation Army board. He was also a member of the boards at
Nazareth Childrens Home and Catawba College.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Cameron
Leonard.

Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Michael Hooper and the Rev. Bobby Bonds. Burial,
Lexington City Cemetery.

MOCKSVILLE Annie Clair Davis Reavis, 83,
Rocky Dale Lane, Farmington community, died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at Davie County
Hospital.
Born March 24, 1916, in Davie County, Mrs. Reavis
was a daughter of the late Joseph Wess and Mary Ada Shaw Davis. She operated a dairy farm
with her husband, Fletcher Martin Reavis, who died Nov. 20, 1971. She was a 1934 graduate
of Farmington High School and a member of Farmington Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Wayne
Reavis, and a daughter, Dorothy Boger.
Survivors include sister Gladys Davis, Wilkesboro;
three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Born Aug. 5, 1904, in Rowan County, Mrs. Smith was
a daughter of the late James Gordon and Mary Zula Turner Adams. A homemaker, she was a
member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, John W.
Ammons, Milton V. Clement and Luke F. Smith, and a daughter, Billie Elizabeth Hartley.
Survivors include sons John Gordon Ammons, Red
Springs, Dallas Lee Ammons and Milton Virgil Clement Jr., both of Salisbury, and Turner

member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church.
Her husband, Walter Watson, preceded her in death.
