Born Oct. 8, 1944, in Warsaw, Wyoming County,
N.Y., Mr. Booth was a son of Edna Lowder Booth, Albemarle, and the late Harold Wilson
Booth. A truck driver, Mr. Booth was employed with TKG Transportation and was a veteran of
the U.S. Navy.

Charlie Grey Poppie Corriher, 89, of
Salisbury, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, after three weeks
of serious illness.
Born March 1, 1910, in Rowan County, Mr. Corriher
was a son of the late Mamie McNeely and Charlie Ambrose Corriher. Educated in Rowan County
schools Mr. Corriher was a retired salesman for Hall Distribution Company, Salisbury. He
was also a member of Salem Lutheran Church.
Survivors include son Bob Corriher, Mount Airy;
daughters Sue Schenk, Salisbury and Mrs. David (Patty)Frisco, Seminole, Fla.; eight
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Linker Gordon, 68, died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in
Winston-Salem.
Born March 28, 1931, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Gordon was a daughter of the late Annie Bell Carter and Norman Harley Linker. Mrs. Gordon
was a graduate of Winecoff High School, a member of Lane Street Baptist Church and the
Kanneers Square Dancing Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James
Herman Gordon and a son Randy James Gordon.
Survivors include daughter June Gordon DeLugas,
Advance; son Rickie Gordon, Kannapolis; sisters Lucille Linker Bost, Mount Pleasant and
Maggie Linker Keener, Kannapolis; brothers James Linker, Concord, Ace and Coy Linker, both

N. Fred Jordan
N. Fred Jordan, 89, 621 N. Craig St., died
Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation of Salisbury.
Born March 29, 1910, in Montgomery County, Mr.
Jordan was a son of the late Ada Ann McLeod and Nerious F. Jordan. Educated in Thomasville
City Schools, he attended N.C. State University.
Employed with Pet Dairy Company in refrigeration
repair, he retired after more than 45 years and was employed by Rowan-Cabarrus Community
College.
Mr. Jordan was a member of First United Methodist
Church of Salisbury, the Mens Golden Rule Sunday School Class, the church Sunday
school office and was assistant treasurer and on the greeting committee. He was active in
the Cub Scout Troop 442 and was their first Cubmaster.
A member of the Salisbury Civitan Club since 1954
with 44 years of consecutive perfect attendance, Mr. Jordan served as past president, past
lieutenant governor of the district and an international officer, serving as international
junior civitan chairman. He had received the highest award on the club level, the club
honor key.
His wife, Katherine Wagoner Jordan, died Nov. 12,
1984.
Survivors include son the Rev. N. Fred Jordan Jr.,
Charlotte; brother Ivey Jordan, Hubert; sister Eunice Rickard, Thomasville; and three
grandchildren.

Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Griffis, minister. The Salisbury Civitan Club will

Born Aug. 9, 1932, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Starnes
was a son of the late Ida Belle Starnes. Educated in Cabarrus County schools Mr. Starnes
retired from Fieldcrest Cannon in Aug. 1997 after 42 years of service. He worked part-time
for Johnsons Superette for the past 32 years.
Mr. Starnes attended Gospel Light Freewill Baptist
Church, Concord, and served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1954. He was also a member of
American Legion Post 51, Concord.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Frances
Bostian Starnes; sons William and Garry Starnes, both of Salisbury, and Robert
Bobby Starnes, China Grove; daughters Vickie Monroe, Charlotte, and Tammie
Freeman, Rockwell; step-brother Albert Bostian, Concord; step-sister Annie Lee Roach,
Florida; half-sister Cora Ledbetter, Concord; and 10 grandchildren.
