Pauline Morrison Bennett

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Friday for Pauline Morrison Bennett, 45, 1240 Flat Rock Road, who died Sunday (Jan. 23, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after one week of serious illness.

Services:2 p.m. Friday, Sills Creek AME Zion Church, Mooresville, conducted by the Rev. Frank Cornelius. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Friday, Sills Creek AME Zion Church, Mooresville.

Robert Loyd Booth

NORWOOD —

Born Oct. 8, 1944, in Warsaw, Wyoming County, N.Y., Mr. Booth was a son of Edna Lowder Booth, Albemarle, and the late Harold Wilson Booth. A truck driver, Mr. Booth was employed with TKG Transportation and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Nancy Marie Smith Booth, of the home; son Bryan Booth, New London; daughters Lisa Booth, of the home and Michelle Jeffery, Albemarle; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Services:11 a.m. Friday, Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Paul Bell. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory, Albemarle.

Visitation:6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home of son, Bryan Booth, 36670 Carter Road, New London.

 

Charlie ‘Poppie’ Corriher

Charlie Grey “Poppie” Corriher, 89, of Salisbury, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, after three weeks of serious illness.

Born March 1, 1910, in Rowan County, Mr. Corriher was a son of the late Mamie McNeely and Charlie Ambrose Corriher. Educated in Rowan County schools Mr. Corriher was a retired salesman for Hall Distribution Company, Salisbury. He was also a member of Salem Lutheran Church.

Survivors include son Bob Corriher, Mount Airy; daughters Sue Schenk, Salisbury and Mrs. David (Patty)Frisco, Seminole, Fla.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Services:3 p.m. Friday, Salem Lutheran Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Clarence Sifford, pastor, and the Rev. Carroll Robinson, former pastor. Burial, family plot at the church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home, 515 S. Main St., Salisbury. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Carolyn Louise Efird

ALBEMARLE —Carolyn Louise Efird, 62, 24138-A Wyatt Road, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2000)at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born May 7, 1937, in Stanly County, Ms. Efird was a daughter of the late Daisy Lee Hinson and Tola I. Efird.

Survivors include brother Raymond Efird, Albemarle; sisters Ruby Almond and Puah Underwood, both of Albemarle, Juanita Carriker, Kernersville and Mary Tucker, Oakboro.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Hartsell FuneralHome’s Lefler Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Les Schofield. Burial, Canton Baptist Church Cemetery, Albemarle.

Visitation:6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home of a sister Ruby E. Almond, 24138-A Wyatt Road, Albemarle.

 

David Lee Eller

MOORESVILLE —David Lee Eller, 46, 366 N. Academy St., died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at his residence.

Born Feb. 17, 1953, in Iredell County, Mr. Eller was a son of Dorothy Shepherd Eller and George Edgar Eller, both of Cornelius. Self employed in custom upholstery, he was also the district 4 director of the IMAA.

Survivors include wife Linda Cristenbury Eller and brother Michael Eller, Terrell.

Services:11 a.m. Saturday, Neill Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Phil Gibbs. Burial, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Cornelius.

Visitation:7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Neill Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Marie Gordon

KANNAPOLIS — Minnie Marie “Ree” Linker Gordon, 68, died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

Born March 28, 1931, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Gordon was a daughter of the late Annie Bell Carter and Norman Harley Linker. Mrs. Gordon was a graduate of Winecoff High School, a member of Lane Street Baptist Church and the Kanneer’s Square Dancing Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Herman Gordon and a son Randy James Gordon.

Survivors include daughter June Gordon DeLugas, Advance; son Rickie Gordon, Kannapolis; sisters Lucille Linker Bost, Mount Pleasant and Maggie Linker Keener, Kannapolis; brothers James Linker, Concord, Ace and Coy Linker, both of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Friday, Lane Street Baptist Church, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Todd Galloway. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation: 6:30-8 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the home of son Rickie Gordon, 1500 Central Drive, Kannapolis.

N. Fred Jordan

N. Fred Jordan, 89, 621 N. Craig St., died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation of Salisbury.

Born March 29, 1910, in Montgomery County, Mr. Jordan was a son of the late Ada Ann McLeod and Nerious F. Jordan. Educated in Thomasville City Schools, he attended N.C. State University.

Employed with Pet Dairy Company in refrigeration repair, he retired after more than 45 years and was employed by Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.

Mr. Jordan was a member of First United Methodist Church of Salisbury, the Men’s Golden Rule Sunday School Class, the church Sunday school office and was assistant treasurer and on the greeting committee. He was active in the Cub Scout Troop 442 and was their first Cubmaster.

A member of the Salisbury Civitan Club since 1954 with 44 years of consecutive perfect attendance, Mr. Jordan served as past president, past lieutenant governor of the district and an international officer, serving as international junior civitan chairman. He had received the highest award on the club level, the club honor key.

His wife, Katherine Wagoner Jordan, died Nov. 12, 1984.

Survivors include son the Rev. N. Fred Jordan Jr., Charlotte; brother Ivey Jordan, Hubert; sister Eunice Rickard, Thomasville; and three grandchildren.

Services:11 a.m. Friday, First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Griffis, minister. The Salisbury Civitan Club will sit as a group for the service. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home.

Theodore P. Leonard

LEXINGTON —Theodore Pleasant Leonard, 80, of Greensboro Street Extension, died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000).

MOCKSVILLE — Annie Reavis died Wednesday ( Jan. 26, 2000) at Davie County Hospital.

Cleo Smith

LUMBERTON — Cleo Smith died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at Southeastern Regional Hospital.

Robert Glenn Starnes

CHINA GROVE —

Born Aug. 9, 1932, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Starnes was a son of the late Ida Belle Starnes. Educated in Cabarrus County schools Mr. Starnes retired from Fieldcrest Cannon in Aug. 1997 after 42 years of service. He worked part-time for Johnson’s Superette for the past 32 years.

Mr. Starnes attended Gospel Light Freewill Baptist Church, Concord, and served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1954. He was also a member of American Legion Post 51, Concord.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Frances Bostian Starnes; sons William and Garry Starnes, both of Salisbury, and Robert “Bobby” Starnes, China Grove; daughters Vickie Monroe, Charlotte, and Tammie Freeman, Rockwell; step-brother Albert Bostian, Concord; step-sister Annie Lee Roach, Florida; half-sister Cora Ledbetter, Concord; and 10 grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Northcrest Chapel, Linn-Honeycutt, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Buck Canup and the Rev. Carl Howard. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, with graveside rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the residence.
