North Rowan’s boys win Piedmont Triad meet

SALISBURY POST

           
WINSTON-SALEM — North Rowan’s boys won the Le Bleu Indoor Track & Field Invitational at the Piedmont Triad Track & Field Center here Saturday.

Coach Robert Steele’s Cavaliers scored 96 points, while runner-up High Point Central finished with 50. Eastern Alamance was third with 43.

Mount Tabor won the girls championship with 92 points, while North Rowan was second with 84 and West Forsyth third with 56.

Malachi Brown had the only first places for North’s boys, taking the 55 meters with a time of 6.60 seconds and the 300 in 38.65.

Coach Brian Mills’ North girls were led by LaTasha Pharr, a double winner in the triple jump(37 feet, 3 inches) and 300 (44.5). Teammates Garrett Hunter (34-5 in the shot put) and TiffanyMack (16-1 in the long jump).

Second places were taken by Mack in both the triple jump (32-6) and 55 (7.91); Jonquil Walker in the 500 (1:10.3) and 300 (39.15); BobbyHundley in the 1000 (2:48.65); Ken Brown in the shot put (37-7); Andre Russell in the triple jump(42-9); and Jason McDowell, Blake Nicholson, Jaquim Medrano and Jason Everhardt in the 3200 relay (10:38).

Cavaliers taking third places were Ray Johnson with a high jump of 5-6 and Thomas Mashorewith a time of 6.73 in the 55.

Badina Ellis and Maria Turner had fourth places for North’s girls, Ellis with a shot put of 30-5 and Turner with a time of 8.15 in the 55. For boys, Omar Jackson had a shot put of 35 feet and McDowell a time of 3:07 in the 1000 for fourth places.

Marcella Creolkpo was fifth in the girls 55 in 8.30, and Thomas Mashore (41.5 in the 300) and Nicholson (3:08 in the 1000) had fifth places.

Andrea Price was sixth for North’s girls with a time of 8.43 in the 55, and Johnson was sixth for the boys with a time of 41.7 in the 300.

Anthony Byrd was seventh for North’s boys with a triple jump of 41-1/2, while Russell took seventh in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet.

State qualifying performances were accomplished by Mack in the long jump and Russell in the triple jump.

The Cavaliers are scheduled to compete in a meet at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., Friday and Saturday.
