Pauline Morrison Bennett

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Friday for Pauline Morrison Bennett, 45, 1240 Flat Rock Road, who died Sunday (Jan. 23, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after one week’s illness.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday, Sills Creek AME Zion Church, Mooresville, conducted by the Rev. Frank Cornelius. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Friday, at the church.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Margaret Lowery

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Friday for Margaret Elizabeth Neely Lowery, 74, 549 Kirk Street, who died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oak Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. James I. Smith, pastor. Burial, U.S. National Cemetery.

Visitation: 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the church.

 

Beryl Van Lierop

The memorial service will be Thursday for Beryl Van Lierop, 75, who died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) at his residence following a brief illness.

Born Sept. 18, 1924, in Yakima, Wash., Mr. Van Lierop was a son of the late Catherine Hamil and Rev. John Bernard Henry Van Lierop. Raised and educated in Ghent, Belgium, he later moved to the United States where he studied engineering at Michigan State University.

He was an engineer for U.S. Royal, Armstrong, United Fruit and the city of Salisbury. His engineering career enabled he and his family to live in Argentina, Honduras, Panama, Algeria, Turkey and various cities in the United States. He spoke Dutch, German, English, French, Spanish and Turkish. He retired to Salisbury where he was active in the Salisbury Kiwanis Club and several bridge clubs.

Survivors include his wife Patricia Tetterton Van Lierop, whom he married Feb. 3, 1943; a son Beryl H. Van Lierop of Jackson, Miss.; daughters Patricia Banker, Asheboro, Elizabeth Laska, Edmond, Okla., Karen Evans, Morgantown, Pa.; brothers Dr. Pete Van Lierop, Duarte, Calif., and John Van Lierop, Seattle, Wash.; sister Joanne Izenbart, Michigan; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial service: 4 p.m. Thursday, Summersett Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dwight Pyatt and the Rev. Bob Freeman.

Visitation: 6:30-8 p.m. today, Summersett Funeral Home.

Memorials: Kiwanis Charities or charity of donor’s choice.

 

Lena Mae Corl

GOLD HILL — The funeral service for Lena Mae Hammill Corl, 81, has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. today at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Floyd Bost, interim pastor, and the Rev. C. P. Fisher. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Powles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

N. Fred Jordan

N. Fred Jordan of Salisbury died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Howard Montgomery

The funeral for Howard Montgomery, 74, who died Sunday (Jan. 16, 2000) at The Laurels of Salisbury has been rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, Cleveland, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Griffin. Burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 3-3:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. The family will be at the home of daughter Trudy Johnson, 107 Hollins Drive.

Rowan Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

 

Robert Glenn Starnes

CHINA GROVE — Robert Glenn Starnes, 67, of 1580 S. Main St., died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Glenn Parks Thompson

LANDIS — The funeral will be held Thursday for Glenn Parks Thompson, 78, of 501 S. Correll St., who died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

Born Nov. 17, 1921, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Joseph Benjamin and Annie Mae Johnston Thompson. Retired from Corriher Mills, he was a World War ll veteran of the U. S Army. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, China Grove.

Survivors include wife Margaret Vanderford Thompson; sons Wayne T. Thompson, Mooresville, Tommy G. Thompson, Gastonia, and Tony R. Thompson, Biloxi, Miss.; brothers Ellis Thompson, Williston, Fla., Walter Thompson, Medina, Ohio, and R. B. Thompson, China Grove; sisters Sybelle Vanderford, Salisbury, Fannie Mae Bell, Lexington, Peggy Ridenhour, Cooleemee, and Oree Fesperman, Rockwell; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, First United Methodist Church, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Rusty Inman and the Rev. James Faggart. Burial in West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home on Correll Street.

Charlie Grey Corriher

Charlie Grey Corriher, 89, Salisbury, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Joe Clifton ‘J.C.’ Herron

HUNTERSVILLE — Joe Clifton “J.C.” Herron, 62, died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

Born Feb. 18, 1937, in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of Margaret W. Wright, Lenoir, and the late Clifton Jerome Herron.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include daughter Lynn H. Guice, Denver; son, Joe C. Herron Jr., Salisbury; sisters Vie Sills, Taylorsville, Marie Brown, Irene Bowman and Rhonda Brannon, all of Huntersville, and Ellen Harmon, Lenoir; brothers Harold Herron and Thomas Herron, both of Huntersville, and Carl “Tim” Herron, Hudson; and four grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Huntersville, conducted by Pastor Pat Childers. Burial, Forest Lawn West in Charlotte.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends before the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.

Jane Dover McHone Hilton

HARRISBURG — Jane Dover McHone Hilton, 49, 8130 Altacrest Drive, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born April 20, 1950, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Hilton was a daughter of Joseph E. “Joe” and Pauline “Polly” Winecoff Tyson, Kannapolis. A homemaker, she was a lifetime resident of the area, except for several years she lived in Texas.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband Allen Hilton; daughter Nicole Hilton Salter, Concord; sister Mrs. Charlie (Vicky) Donehue, Kannapolis; and one grandchild.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Friday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by Chaplain Butch Branscome. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the 8130 Altacrest Drive home in Harrisburg.

 

Charlie Raymond Laird

MOCKSVILLE — The funeral will be Thursday for Charlie Raymond Laird, 80, Dulin Road, who died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.

Born Nov. 17, 1919, in Davie County, Mr. Laird was a son of the late Effie Barney and Oscar Laird. He was a retired truck driver and member of Dulin United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by son Billy Laird.

Survivors include wife Mabel Robertson Laird; sons Charlie Herman Laird and Bobby Laird, both of Mocksville; daughters Margaret Nell Leonard and Cathy Jill Laird, both of Mocksville, and Debbi Lane Laird, Philadelphia, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Dulin United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Lester Keaton. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. tonight, Eaton Funeral Home.

 

Danetta Rashelle Lewis

MOCKSVILLE — The memorial service will be Saturday for Danetta Rashelle Lewis, 20, 127 Branchview Lane, who died Sunday (Jan. 23, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Services: 5 p.m. Saturday, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, 1304 County Home Road, conducted by Minister W.L. Barford. Graham Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Robert Lewis Mishak

BOOMER — Robert Lewis Mishak, 51, Boomer Road, died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) at Wilkes Regional Medical Center, North Wilkesboro.

Born May 2, 1948, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Mishak was a son of Lewis Bohunt and Gladys Baxter Mishak of China Grove. He was a truck driver.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by wife Judy Price Mishak; son Robert Franklin Mishak, Mount Pleasant; daughter Crystal Mishak, Salisbury; brothers Kent, Bryan and Clint Mishak, all of China Grove; sister Sheila Garrison, Linwood; and three grandchildren.

The funeral was held this morning at Miller Funeral Chapel, North Wilkesboro. Burial followed in Laws Cemetery, Moravian Falls.

 

Mary Hobbs Morrow

SPENCER — The funeral will be Thursday for Mary Hobbs Morrow, 91, Spencer, who died Sunday (Jan. 23, 2000) at Bethamy Retirement Center after a period of declining health.

Born Sept. 29, 1908, in Macon, Ga., Mrs. Morrow was a daughter of the late Mamie Wilkins and Solan Levy Hobbs. She was educated in Erwin, Tenn., schools and earned a master’s degree from Columbia University in New York.

She taught at the Greensboro Women’s College early in her career and later was an elementary school teacher in North Carolina for many years.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Joe Woodrow Morrow, died Nov. 23, 1987.

Survivors include sister Madge Hobbs Walser, Johnson City, Tenn.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Service of Remembrance, Bethamy Retirement Center, conducted by the Rev. Rodney Hagans, pastor of Central United Methodist Church. Burial, Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation: None. Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.
