Beryl Van Lierop
The memorial service will be Thursday for Beryl
Van Lierop, 75, who died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) at his residence following a brief
illness.
Born Sept. 18, 1924, in Yakima, Wash., Mr. Van
Lierop was a son of the late Catherine Hamil and Rev. John Bernard Henry Van Lierop.
Raised and educated in Ghent, Belgium, he later moved to the United States where he
studied engineering at Michigan State University.
He was an engineer for U.S. Royal, Armstrong,
United Fruit and the city of Salisbury. His engineering career enabled he and his family
to live in Argentina, Honduras, Panama, Algeria, Turkey and various cities in the United
States. He spoke Dutch, German, English, French, Spanish and Turkish. He retired to
Salisbury where he was active in the Salisbury Kiwanis Club and several bridge clubs.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Tetterton Van
Lierop, whom he married Feb. 3, 1943; a son Beryl H. Van Lierop of Jackson, Miss.;
daughters Patricia Banker, Asheboro, Elizabeth Laska, Edmond, Okla., Karen Evans,
Morgantown, Pa.; brothers Dr. Pete Van Lierop, Duarte, Calif., and John Van Lierop,
Seattle, Wash.; sister Joanne Izenbart, Michigan; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial service: 4 p.m. Thursday, Summersett
Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dwight Pyatt and the Rev. Bob Freeman.

for Glenn Parks Thompson, 78, of 501 S. Correll St., who died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) at
Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.
Born Nov. 17, 1921, in Rowan County, he was a son
of the late Joseph Benjamin and Annie Mae Johnston Thompson. Retired from Corriher Mills,
he was a World War ll veteran of the U. S Army. He was a member of First United Methodist
Church, China Grove.

Herron, 62, died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.
Born Feb. 18, 1937, in Mecklenburg County, he was
the son of Margaret W. Wright, Lenoir, and the late Clifton Jerome Herron.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include

8130 Altacrest Drive, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born April 20, 1950, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Hilton was a daughter of Joseph E. Joe and Pauline Polly Winecoff
Tyson, Kannapolis. A homemaker, she was a lifetime resident of the area, except for
several years she lived in Texas.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include
husband Allen Hilton; daughter Nicole Hilton Salter, Concord; sister Mrs. Charlie (Vicky)
Donehue, Kannapolis; and one grandchild.

Charlie Raymond Laird, 80, Dulin Road, who died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) at Kate B. Reynolds
Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.
Born Nov. 17, 1919, in Davie County, Mr. Laird was
a son of the late Effie Barney and Oscar Laird. He was a retired truck driver and member
of Dulin United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by son Billy Laird.
Survivors include wife Mabel Robertson Laird; sons
Charlie Herman Laird and Bobby Laird, both of Mocksville; daughters Margaret Nell Leonard
and Cathy Jill Laird, both of Mocksville, and Debbi Lane Laird, Philadelphia, Pa.; and
seven grandchildren.

Road, died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) at Wilkes Regional Medical Center, North Wilkesboro.
Born May 2, 1948, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Mishak
was a son of Lewis Bohunt and Gladys Baxter Mishak of China Grove. He was a truck driver.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by wife
Judy Price Mishak; son Robert Franklin Mishak, Mount Pleasant; daughter Crystal Mishak,
Salisbury; brothers Kent, Bryan and Clint Mishak, all of China Grove; sister Sheila
Garrison, Linwood; and three grandchildren.
The funeral was held this morning at Miller
Funeral Chapel, North Wilkesboro. Burial followed in Laws Cemetery, Moravian Falls.
Mary Hobbs Morrow
SPENCER The funeral will be Thursday for
Mary Hobbs Morrow, 91, Spencer, who died Sunday (Jan. 23, 2000) at Bethamy Retirement
Center after a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 29, 1908, in Macon, Ga., Mrs. Morrow
was a daughter of the late Mamie Wilkins and Solan Levy Hobbs. She was educated in Erwin,
Tenn., schools and earned a masters degree from Columbia University in New York.
She taught at the Greensboro Womens College
early in her career and later was an elementary school teacher in North Carolina for many
years.
She was a member of Central United Methodist
Church.
Her husband, Joe Woodrow Morrow, died Nov. 23,
1987.
Survivors include sister Madge Hobbs Walser,
Johnson City, Tenn.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Service of Remembrance,
Bethamy Retirement Center, conducted by the Rev. Rodney Hagans, pastor of Central United
Methodist Church. Burial, Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date.
