Born Feb. 16, 1926, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Deal
was a daughter of the late Annie Collett and William Atlas Belk.
A graduate of China Grove High School, she had
retired from Cannon Mills. She was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ, where
she was active in the church choir, the Hattie Sechler Circle and the senior citizens
group.
Survivors include husband Preston Deal; son Dennis
Russell Deal, Charlotte; brother William Belk, Kannapolis; sisters Vera Abernathy and
Mattie Wise, both of Salisbury, Layvon Waggoner, Bear Poplar, Juanita Howell, Concord, and

1915, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Craven was a son of the late Frank McKnight and Roberta
Kimmons Craven. A graduate of Odell High School, he had worked for 43 years at Burlington
Industries, retiring as a supervisor.
Mr. Craven was a member of the Mooresville Lions
Club and Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the John W. Jones Bible
Class.
A daughter, Melissa C. Brawley, preceded him in
death.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Shumaker Craven,
whom he married Dec. 25, 1941; a daughter, Harriet C. Hawn, Wilmington; a son, Henry

was a son of the late Thomas Raymond and Elizabeth Louise Gaskins Orvin. He had retired

His first wife, Margaret Irene Hurd Orvin, died in
1956; and his second wife, Linnie Elizabeth McCommons Orvin, died in 1976.

was a son of the late Clara Phelps and James Edwin Pickler.
Educated in the schools of Rowan County, he served
in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He had worked for N.C. Finishing Co. and had later
retired as maintenance supervisor at Salisbury High School. For the last 12 years, he had
been a lay minister at Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation in Salisbury. He was a
member of Providence United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by stepson John
Bud Wise and a grandson.

Manor Nursing Home in Manakin-Sabot.
Born June 24, 1906, in Montgomery County, Miss
Taylor was a daughter of the late Charles and Cora Hall Taylor. She earned a
bachelors degree in education from Catawba College and also studied at Duke
University and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Greensboro.
Miss Taylor taught for 43 years in the Albemarle
schools, retiring in 1973. The Albemarle Lions Club named her Outstanding Teacher of the
Year in 1969. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church for more than 60
years.
She was also a member of the N.C. Education
Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Annie Hearne Garden Club, the National Retired
Teachers Association, the Historical Association and the Albemarle Womans Club,
which she had served two terms as vice president.
Survivors include two nephews and a niece.

he received a bachelors degree in accounting.
An Eagle Scout, he served in the U.S. Army from
1969 to 1971. A certified public accoutant for Dixon-Odom, he was a member of First
Lutheran Church in Albemarle.
