Eva Viola Schenk Basinger

The funeral will be Saturday for Eva Viola Schenk Basinger, 86, 2950 Sherrills Ford Road, who died Wednesday (Jan. 19, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born March 30, 1913, in Rowan County, Mrs. Basinger was a daughter of the late James Edward and Blanche Elizabeth Graham Schenk. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she was a seamstress and a homemaker. She had been a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for over 50 years.

Her husband, Eli Augustus Basinger, died Sept. 16, 1989.

Survivors include son Eli Basinger, Salisbury; daughter Rena Elizabeth Basinger, of the home; brothers Gurney Frank Schenk, Salisbury, and RichardLee “Dick” Schenk, Chula Vista, Calif.; sisters Mrs. Otho (Worthy) Leazer and Mrs. Marvin (Lorene)Leazer, both of Salisbury, and Mrs. Cecil (Mary) Allen, Granite Quarry; and two grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, St. Mark’s LutheranChurch, conducted by the Rev. Gene Bruce. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight,Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home,China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home on Sherrills Ford Road.

Martha Kistler Bowles

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for Martha Kistler Bowles, 75, 4300 Hilton Lake Road, who died Wednesday (Jan. 19, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a period of declining health and a week of serious illness.

Born June 18, 1924, in Iredell County, Mrs. Bowles was a daughter of the late Fred Lee and Ethel Geneva Suther Kistler. She had retired due to health problems in 1961 from Cannon Mills, Plant 1, washcloth department. She later worked at Delta Electric Co., Salisbury.

A charter member of Sunrise Freewill Baptist Church, she was also a member of Woodmen of the World.

Survivors include husband Frank Bowles; son James D. King Jr., Salisbury; sister Ruth Steele, Cape Carteret; stepdaughter Ann Christy, Kannapolis; stepsons Chris and Tim Bowles, both of Salisbury; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Raymond Ross.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Hilton Lake Road.

 

Louise Jackson Clark

The funeral will be Sunday for Louise Patricia Jackson Clark, 42, 422 N. Boundary St., who died Tuesday (Jan. 18, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after six months of serious illness.

The daughter of Clarence Jackson, she was last employed at Livingstone College.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Hall’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, conducted by Elder Richard Johnson. Burial, National Cemetery, Salisbury. Military rites by Salisbury Rowan Veterans Council.

Visitation: 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Ila Belle Neely Coleman

The funeral will be Monday for Ila Belle Neely Coleman, 83, 2-D Zion Hill Apartments, who died Wednesday (Jan. 19, 2000) at her home.

Services: 12:30 p.m. Monday, Soldiers Memorial AMEZion Church, conducted by Dr. Johnson K. Asibuo. Burial, National Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: Noon Monday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home at Zion Hill Apartments.

Mitchell and Fair Funeral Service is in charge.

John Russell Ellis

John Russell Ellis, 80, 203 Five Row St., died Thursday (Jan. 20, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.

Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Johnston

DENVER — Elizabeth “Libby” Crowell Johnston, 53, Bentwood Lane, died Thursday (Jan. 20, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville.

Born Sept. 19, 1946, in Mooresville, Mrs. Johnston was a daughter of the late Joseph Webber and Gwendolyn Shiplett Crowell. A 1964 graduate of Mooresville Senior High School, she was employed in the clerical department of Mid-South Utilities. She was a former employee of Piedmont Natural Gas in Charlotte.

Survivors include son Michael T. Johnston Jr., Mooresville; sisters Mrs. Donnie (Nancy C.) Robinson and Mrs. Randy (Jody C.) Oliphant, both of Mooresville; brother Joseph W. Crowell Jr., Salisbury; and a granddaughter.

Services: Graveside, 10:30 a.m. Saturday,Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville. Memorial service, 11 a.m. Saturday, First Presbyterian Church, Mooresville, conducted by Dr. S. Edwin Lewis.

Visitation: After the memorial service in the church parlor. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Nancy C. Robinson, Gossett Court, Mooresville.

Eddie Paul Lentz

Eddie Paul Lentz, 64, 202 Dunham Ave., died Thursday (Jan. 20, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 6, 1935, in Roanoke, Ala., Mr. Lentz was a son of W. Harold and Opal Webster Lentz, with whom he made his home. He was a 1954 graduate of Granite Quarry High School.

Retired after 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, he was a Vietnam War veteran. He had also retired from Gaston Gear Roller Co. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include daughter Mrs. Roy (Cindy) Lancaster, Rockwell; and two grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Faith Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Chuck Brawley. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home,China Grove. At other times the family will be at the Dunham Avenue home.

 

Celeste McEachern

The funeral will be Saturday for Celeste Christian McEachern, 2-week-old daughter of Timothy Wayne and Carmen Mae Bullard McEachern, 314 America Drive, who died Wednesday (Jan. 19, 2000) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

The infant was born Jan. 6, 2000, in Mecklenburg County.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include brother Christopher Caleb McEachern, of the home; grandparents Mary Bullard,Kannapolis, Bobby and Judy Bullard, Concord, Brenda McEachern, Salisbury, and Donnie McEachern, Love Valley; and great-grandparents Floyd Honeycutt, Kannapolis, Gene Mauldin and Essie Efird, both of Concord, and Virginia Bullard, Whiteville.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Wade Easom. Burial,Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

 

Linda Lucille Pindell

WOODLEAF — The funeral will be Saturday for Linda Lucille Pindell, 50, 3875 Needmore Road, who died Wednesday (Jan. 19, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born June 27, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio, Miss Pindell was a daughter of Ada Pindell,Salisbury, and the late Albert L. Pindell. She had retired from Carter Furniture Co. in April 1999.

Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Saturday, Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Clarence Sifford.

Visitation: None.

Whitley’s Funeral Home,Kannapolis, is in charge.

 

Gartrell Wood

CONCORD — The funeral will be Saturday for Gartrell Wood, 80, 380 Goodman Road, who died Wednesday (Jan. 19, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born March 17, 1919, in MadisonCounty, Ga., Mr. Wood was a son of the late Charlie and Azzie Chastain Wood. He had retired in 1983 after 40 years with Cannon Mills, Kannapolis, Plant 1, No. 7 weave room.

A member of First Foursquare Church, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include wife Lena Aldridge Wood; son Donnie Wood, Concord; daughters Kay Lentz, Concord, Patsy Wood Hines, Huntersville, and Sylvia Funderburk, Cramerton; sisters Ann Tucker,Kannapolis, and Retha Daniels, Tampa, Fla.; brother Thurman Wood, Kannapolis; and three grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, First Foursquare Church, conducted by the Rev. Gary Clouse, the Rev. Joel Lentz, Dr. Tom Snipes and the Rev. Dale Jenkins. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the home on Goodman Road.
