Edith Lucille Bryant

Edith Lucille “Eat” Bryant, 37, of 1301 Apt. 1, Lakewood Apartments, died Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2000) at her home.

Caitlin Ann Campbell

The funeral will be Thursday for Caitlin Ann Campbell, infant daughter of Mike and Nancy Horn Campbell, Salisbury, who died Sunday (Jan. 9, 2000)shortly after her birth at Forsyth Regional Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include sisters Alyssa and Ashlyn Campbell, both of the home; maternal grandparents Charles and Janie Horn, Salisbury; paternal grandparents James Campbell, Dawn Powlas and Don and Cynthia Bass, all of Salisbury; maternal great-grandparents Troy and Bonnie Horn, Salisbury, and Steve Billeck, Greensborug, Pa.; and paternal great-grandparents Evelyn Campbell and Bruce and Louise Spry, all of Salisbury, and John Sturgill, Colfax.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m.Thursday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Larry Twitty, pastor, Franklin Baptist Church.

Visitation: None. The family will be at the home.

Annie Cooper Cloer, 100, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Jan. 12, 2000) at her home.

Robert Vance Cook

ALBEMARLE — Robert Vance Cook, 96, 44107 Mount View Church Road, died Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 21, 1903, in Stanly County, Mr. Cook was a son of the late Jim Alexander and Rena Poplin Cook. A retired carpenter and farmer, he was a member of Poplin’s Grove Baptist Church.

His wife, Zula Burleson Cook, died March 1, 1986. A son, R.V. Cook Jr., also preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons Horace, Doyle, Dolan, Dewell, Darrell and Mitchell Cook, all of Albemarle, and Larry Cook, Concord; daughters Estelle Smith and Ann Robertson, both of Albemarle; 27 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Poplin’s Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Terry Burris and the Rev. Farrell Shimpock. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-9 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home.

Helen Walton Dunn

Helen Walton Dunn, 83, formerly of North Jackson Street, died Wednesday (Jan. 12, 2000) at Summit Nursing Home, Asheville.

Edward M. Eberhardt

KANNAPOLIS - Edward M. Eberhardt, 78, formerly of Strider Circle, died Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2000) at Five Oaks Nusing Center.

Ethel Howard Everhardt

MOORESVILLE — Ethel Howard Everhardt, 95, 162 E. McCelland Ave., died Monday (Jan. 10, 2000) at Brian Center Nursing Home.

Born March 16, 1904, in Davie County, Mrs. Everhardt was a daughter of the late John and Cora Summers Howard. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Everhardt, who died in 1976; sons Donald Everhardt, who died in 1993, and Frank Everhardt, who died in 1985; and a daughter, Katherine Cagle, who died in 1996.

Survivors include other sons Dwain Everhardt, Mooresville, and Jack Everhardt, Charlotte; sister Lucille Cooke, Mocksville; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: Graveside, 1 p.m. Friday, Liberty United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Phillip Park.

Visitation: At the church after the service. Neill Funeral Home is in charge.

Fred Garner

RICHFIELD — H.Fred Garner, 72, 1365 Shaver Road, died Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born Dec. 29, 1927, in Davidson County, Mr. Garner was a son of Rufus Stokes and Mary Elizabeth Arey Garner. Employed with Bill’s Hosiery Mills, he was a Baptist.

Survivors include wife Dora Painter Garner; sons Jimmy Stokes Garner, Richfield, and Robert Lee Garner, Asheville; daughter Shirley Ann Lindsay, Salisbury; sister Elsie Snider, High Point; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Mountain View Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. EarlCook.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Briggs Funeral Home, Denton.

 

Riley J. Gulledge Jr.

CHINA GROVE - Riley Jackson Gulledge Jr., 78, formerly of Charlotte, died Sunday (Jan. 9, 2000) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Born Sept. 6, 1921, in Charlotte, he was a son of the late Riley Jackson Gulledge Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Munn Gulledge. Educated in the Mecklenburg County schools, he was a U. S.Army veteran of World War ll and served until he became disabled. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by a niece.

Services: Graveside 11 a.m. Thursday, U. S. National Cemetery, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Fleming Otey, VA chaplain, with military rites conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: None.

Bernice Holshouser

The funeral will be held Thursday for Bernice Miller Holshouser, 83, who died Monday (Jan. 10, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born March 30, 1916, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Moses and Gertrude Mae Misenheimer Miller. A graduate of Rockwell High School, she was retired from the package department of Cannon Mills, Plant l. She was a member of Organ Lutheran Church, an avid gardener and quilt maker.

Her husband, Gilbert Holshouser, died in 1976.

Survivors include brother Harry W. Miller, Rockwell; and sister Velma Mae Young, Salisbury.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Powles Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. John E. Pless, pastor of Organ Lutheran Church. Burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.

David Laws

David Laws, 74, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Jan. 12, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Henry ‘H.A.’ Perry Jr.

ALBEMARLE — Henry Albert “H.A.” Perry Jr., 76, formerly of 1305 Hathcock Ave., died Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2000) at Kate B.Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.

Born July 24, 1923, in Stanly County, Mr. Perry was a son of the late Henry Albert and Daisy Smith Perry. Retired from Wiscassett Mills Co., he later worked for Phillips Clothing Store. He was a member of West Albemarle Baptist Church, DAV and a past president of Albemarle Civitan Club. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the European and Pacific theatres during World War II.

His wife, Pocahontas “Pokey” Meigs Perry, died Jan. 3, 1998.

Survivors include sons Dane Perry, Winston-Salem, and Kim Perry, Burlington; and five grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, West Albemarle Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rob Roberts and the Rev. Wiley Rutledge. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home.

Johnnie W. Shaver

The funeral will be held Thursday for Johnnie Wallace Shaver, 78, of Weant Street, Apt. 1, East Spencer, who died Friday (Jan. 7, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after 10 years of declining health.

Services: Graveside 2 p.m., Salisbury National Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Willie L. Aldrich, associate pastor of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church. Military rites will be conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: None. The family will be at the home of a sister, Cozy W. Davis, 905 Richard St.

Mitchell & Fair Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

 

Thelma Lentz Jones Stokes

The funeral will be Thursday for Thelma Lentz Jones Stokes, 86, 5380 Mount Hope Church Road, who died Monday (Jan. 10, 2000) at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Born July 5, 1913, in Rowan County, Mrs. Stokes,a daughter of the late Willie Lindsey and Etta Crook Lentz, graduated from high school in Roanoke, Ala. Formerly employed by Cone Mills, she retired from Cannon Mills.

She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Heaven Bound Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary group. The Faith Jaycees presented her the Outstanding Senior Citizen award in 1994. In 1997, she received a Voluntary Service certificate for over 3000 hours and three years of volunteer service at Salisbury VAMedical Center.

Her first husband, Charlie Denson Jones, died Dec. 14, 1976. Her second husband, Hayden C. Stokes, died Oct. 27, 1996.

Survivors include sons H.Dwight Jones, Skippers, Va., and D. Wayne Jones, Faith; daughters Jean Kraft, Charlotte, Grace Anderson, Gold Hill, and Mrs. Stamey (Charlene) Shoemaker, Salisbury; stepson Hayden C. Stokes Jr., Salisbury; brother W. Harold Lentz, Salisbury; sister Frances Bradshaw, Salisbury; 10 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Faith Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Chuck Brawley, the Rev. Gary Bodford and the Rev. Fred Weber. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Mrs. Stamey (Charlene) Shoemaker, 5380 Mount Hope Church Road.

I. E. “Bus” Hunt

LEXINGTON - I. E. “Bus” Hunt, 93, of 425 Country Club Drive, died Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2000) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Born July 1, 1906 in Davidson County, he was a son of the late William Bentley and Mattie L. Hunt. A resident of Davidson County most of his life, he retired from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in 1967 after 37 years of service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Woodman o the World.

Survivors include wife Alice Mae Vestal Hunt; daughters Martha Hunt Halliwell, Lexington, and Sissy Hunt Redwine, Tucker, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

Services: Graveside 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Lexington City Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home.

 

Jack C. Moore

KANNAPOLIS - Jack Clarence Moore, 83, died Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2000) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.
