Pearl Deal BangeKANNAPOLIS - Pearl
Deal Bange, 92, formerly of 1806 Brantley Road, died Sunday (Jan. 9, 2000) at Manorhouse
of Concord after a period of declining health.
Born May 11, 1907 in Alexander County, she was a
daughter of the late Julius P. and Amanda Emoline Bogle Deal. Employed in the wash cloth
department of Cannon Mills, Plant l, for about 40 years, she retired in 1971. She was a
member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church and had been a resident of Kannapolis most of
her life.
Her husband, John T. Bange, died in January of
1977. A son, James I. Bange, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Doris Bange,
Kannapolis; a brother Ray Deal, Kannapolis; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Nannie Jordan Booe
MOCKSVILLE - Nannie Jordan Booe, 92, of Fostall
Road died Sunday (Jan. 9, 2000) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice/Home, Winston-Salem, after a
period of declining health.
Born Nov. 12, 1907, in Davie County, she was a
daughter of the late Valentine and Martha Beck Jordan. A homemaker and farmer, she was a
member of Bear Creek Baptist Church for 70 years.
Her husband, Jack Booe, died in 1974, and a son,
Billy Booe, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons Vernon Booe, Mocksville,
and Lewis Booe, Winston-Salem; daughters, Pearlene Reavis, Nancy Bailey, Wilma Cole and
Margaret Allison, all of Mocksville; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nine
great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia Peeler Carter
GASTONIA Virginia Peeler Carter, 80, 2135
Linwood Road, a Granite Quarry native, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2000) at Gaston Memorial
Hospital.
Mrs. Carter was a daughter of the late Carl Banks
and Pearl Lyerly Peeler. She was a member of Bradley Memorial United Methodist Church,
where she had been a teacher in childrens work, a cub scout den mother and a United
Methodist Women circle chairperson. A life member of the United Methodist Women, she was
an honorary Gold Star Sister in American Legion Auxiliary Post 448.
Her husband, Dan Carter Jr., preceded her in
death.
Survivors include sons Dan Carter, Raleigh, Bill
Carter, Lake Norman, and Tim Carter, Gastonia; brother Wallace Peeler; and three
grandchildren.
Services were to be held at 11 this morning at
Bradley Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold Schwantes officiating.
Burial, Gaston Memorial Park.

Ray Lester Earnhardt
The funeral will be Wednesday for Ray Lester
Earnhardt, 84, Salisbury, who died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical
Center.
Born Feb. 17, 1915, in East Spencer, Mr. Earnhardt
was a son of the late Walter A. and Viola Cauble Earnhardt. He attended the East Spencer
and Salisbury city schools and was a graduate of Boyden High School. A veteran, he served
in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a life long member of St. Johns
Lutheran Church and a member of the Fisher Cox Sunday School Class. He was also a member
of Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFW Post 3006 and Samuel C. Hart American Legion Post 14. A 32nd
Degree Mason, he was a member of Fulton Masonic Lodge 99 AF & AM and received his 50
Year Membership award.
A printer for over 40 years, he was employed for
Plexico and Rowan Business Forms prior to his retirement.
Survivors include wife of 64 years Zula Bowers
Earnhardt; daughter Mrs. Richard (Joyce) Aguglia, Rockville, Md.; sister Marie E. Miller,
Baltimore, Md.; and three grandchildren.

Gurley Road, died Sunday (Jan. 9, 2000) at Five Oaks Nursing Center.
Born June 20, 1909, in Stanly County, Mrs. Greene
was a daughter of the late Resdin Crowell and Comelia Alice Thompson. She was a homemaker.
A member of Badin Baptist Church, she was a childrens Sunday school teacher and a
past member of the WMU.
Her husband, Robert Lloyd Greene, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include daughters Betsy Greene Small,
Greensboro, and Anne Greene Scarboro, Concord; sister Craig Williams, Charlotte; four
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

William Hoyle Hilton, 81, 1008 S. Juniper St., who died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at
Piedmont Medical Center, York, S.C.
Born Oct. 4, 1918, in York County, S.C., Mr.
Hilton was a son of the late Sidney and Sara Frances Allen Hilton. A veteran, he served in
the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Cannon Mills Co. and Daniels
Construction Co. and was a member of York Church of God, York, S.C.
Survivors include son James Hilton, Armstrong,
Ill.; daughters Jean Horton, Bullock Creek, S.C., Vivian Clade, York, S.C.,and Connie

Born Nov. 1, 1904, in Kannapolis, Ms. Ledbetter
was the daughter of the late John and Mable Pethel Ledbetter. She retired in 1984 after 66
years from Cannon Mills plant 1, number 4 spinning room.
Survivors include daughter Margie Watts, Cayce,
S.C.; sisters Hattie Settlemyre, Kannapolis, and Cora Lee Kimball, Rockwell; brother
Walter Ledbetter, Concord; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one

Geneva Faye Gaskey Wilhelm Ousley, 81,
formerly of Peach Orchard Road, died Sunday (Jan. 9, 2000) at Genesis ElderCare of
Salisbury after eight years of declining health and six months of serious illness.
Born Feb. 6, 1918, in Rowan County, Mrs. Ousley
was a daughter of the late John J. and Ada Rufty Gaskey. She attended the Rowan County
schools and was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. She retired in 1986 from
Rowan Cotton Mill Co. after 45 years.
Her husband, Robert E. Wilhelm, died Oct. 29,
1962.
Survivors include sons Robert B. Buddy
Wilhelm, Salisbury, and Vaughn S. Wilhelm, Morrisville; daughter Hollis W. Yost,
Salisbury; brothers Nevin and Gueston Gaskey, both of Salisbury; sister Edna G. Watson,

Frank Pop Ramsey Shaver, 88,
Salisbury, died Sunday (Jan. 9, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of
declining health.
Born Oct. 26, 1911, in Rowan County, Mr. Shaver,
the son of the late Mack and Lillie Arey Shaver, was educated in the Rowan County schools.
He retired in 1974 after 37 years with North Carolina Finishing Co., where he had worked
in the dye house. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Daisy
Casper Shaver, his second wife, Annie Lee Lane Shaver, and his third wife, Josephine
Leonard Shaver.
He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law,
Etta Casper, the sister of his first wife, Daisy Shaver, who reared Mr. Shavers
three children after her sisters death.
Survivors include sons Robert Lee and Albert Ray
Shaver, both of Salisbury; daughter Mary Ross Carter, Salisbury; stepsons Kimble Lane,
Lexington, Jimmy Lane and Mike Leonard, both of Salisbury, and Willie Leon Lane, Rockwell;
stepdaughters Ruby Matthews, Geraldine Casper and Marie Mills, all of Salisbury, Bonnie
Cline, Kannapolis, and Kathy Leonard, Spencer; brothers J. Calvin and R. James Shaver,
both of Gold Hill; sister Mary Lou Drye, Gold Hill; eight grandchildren; 20
