Mamie Eagle Beaver

Mamie Eagle Beaver, 89, 290 Sandy Creek Lane, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2000) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Born Nov. 5, 1910, in Rowan County, Mrs. Beaver was the daughter of the late Daniel E. and Sallie Elizabeth Lippard Eagle. Educated in Rowan County schools, she retired from Cannon Mills as a hemmer in the washcloth department. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Jessie Agustus Beaver, preceded her in death.

She is survived by daughters Judy Morgan, Salisbury, and Joy Fagan, Maitland, Fla.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Monday, memorial service, Faith Lutheran Church, conducted by the Revs. Judy Copeland and Keith Copeland. Her body will be cremated.

Visitation: 3-4 p.m. Monday, Faith Lutheran Church.

Dr. Charles Noel Feezor Sr.

Dr. Charles Noel Feezor Sr., 91, of Salisbury, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 9, 1908, in Davidson County, Mr. Feezor was the son of the late Albert W. and Lillian Victoria Peters Feezor. Educated in Southmont schools, he graduated from Denton High School, earned his bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and his medical degree from Temple University in 1937. He served his internship at City Hospital in Winston-Salem until 1939. He then worked in Mooresville as a doctor until he entered the U.S. Air Force and served four years as a staff physician. He was discharged from the service as a major in 1946.

Dr. Feezor then moved to Salisbury and opened his private family practice. He retired in 1991.

Dr.Feezor was a member of First United Methodist Church and a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a member of the N.C. Medical Society and the Rowan-Davie Medical Society, where he served as president. Dr. Feezor also was a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, and he received a 50-year certificate for family medical practice. He was a member of the N.C. Nursing Home Review Board and was on the Board of Directors of the Salisbury Unit of N.C. Lutheran Nursing Home.

Dr. Feezor was an avid golfer, member of the Left Hand Seniors and the Salisbury Country Club.

His first wife, Edna Joyce Feezor, died Feb. 27, 1991.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Newsom Feezor; sons Dr. Charles N. Feezor Jr., Davidson, and Dr. Michael D. Feezor, Chapel Hill; sisters Vivian Palmer, Denton, Geraldine O’Connor, Seattle, and Eunice Garrison, Burlington; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Thomas Griffis, minister, and Judith L. White, associate minister. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 Monday, Summersett Funeral Home.

Wiley Hassell Gragg

MOORESVILLE — Wiley Hassell Gragg, 87, Center Avenue, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 9, 1912, in Caldwell County, Mr. Gragg was a son of the late Hardy Columbus and Mary Anne Story Gragg. At age 5, after the death of his mother, he was reared at Grandfather Home in Banner Elk, and before coming to Mooresville, he attended Lees-McRae College. He was a retired purchasing agent for Burlington Industries, where he worked for 40 years.

Mr. Gragg was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mooresville, where he was a deacon and a member of the Men’s Bible Class. He was a World War II Army veteran, a charter member of the Army National Guard in Mooresville and a life member of VFW Post 1072.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Brawley Gragg, whom he married Jan. 1, 1942; daughter Jane G. Diehl, Mooresville; sons Ron Gragg, Charlotte, and Richard Gragg, Whispering Pines; sister Lucile Peters, England; brother Dennis Gragg, Dallas; stepbrothers and stepsisters Vernice Penley, Harding Gragg, Doyle Gragg, Maurice Gragg, Connie Milholen, Louise Gragg, Jack Gragg, Elaine Henderson and Jerry Gragg; and two grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, graveside, Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. S. Edwin Lewis and Dr. Fred A. Coates.

Visitation: 6:30-8 tonight, Cavin Funeral Home, Mooresville.

Harlie Morgan Leopard

ALBEMARLE — Harlie Morgan Leopard, 85, 33042-A Old Salisbury Road, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2000) at his home.

Born Feb. 22, 1914, in Jackson County, Mr. Leopard was the son of the late Grover Hampton and Callie Enlow Leopard. A carpenter, he was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of Albemarle VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Ruby Franks Leopard; son Jim Leopard, Albemarle; sisters Evelyn Parker, Brevard, Annie Ashe, Canton, and Myrtle Buchanan, Sylva; and one grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Moody Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, Hamburg Cemetery, Glenville, N.C.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. today, Moody Funeral Home.

 

Donna Brown Lowder

ALBEMARLE — Donna Brown Lowder, 55, 384 Park Road, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at Duke University Medical Center.

Born May 31, 1944, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of Elizabeth Whitted Brown Hess, Salisbury and the late Frank P. Brown. A graduate of Kings Business College, she worked at Wiscassett Mills as a secretary.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include son Chad Coburn Lowder, Albemarle; and stepsister Tina Brown Holder, Wilmington.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, First Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. John W. Futterer. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle.

Lucresia Harkey Oakley

KANNAPOLIS — Lucresia Harkey Oakley, 91, formerly of Oak Avenue, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at Five Oaks Nursing Center, Concord, where she was a resident.

Born March 17, 1908, in Gaston County, Mrs. Oakley was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Mattie Price Harkey. She retired several years ago from the spinning room of Cannon Mills Plant 1, Kannapolis. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Her husband, Richard Alfred Oakley, died Dec. 21, 1978.

Survivors include daughters Marlene Oakley Beaver, Charlotte, and Shirley Oakley Cook, Harrisburg; brother Robert W. “Bob” Harkey, Cypress, Tx.; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Tom Tucker and Charles Efird. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Lady’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis.

Eula Mae Sherrill Safrit

Eula Mae Sherrill Safrit, 83, of Salisbury, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born March 23, 1916, in Spartanburg, S.C., Mrs. Safrit was a daughter of the late Charlie and Emma Patton Sherrill. Educated in China Grove schools, she was a homemaker and a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Her husband, Elmer Ray Safrit died Jan. 23, 1979.

Survivors include sisters Margaret Troutman, Charlotte, Vivian Serrentino, Linfield, Mass., and Rachel Harper, Ollie Thompson and Tiny Bare, all of Salisbury.

Services: 4 p.m. today, graveside, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Jim Vickrey

Memorials: Southside Baptist Church, 500 Morlan Park Road, Salisbury, N.C. 28144.

Eva Ann Smith

LEXINGTON — Eva Ann Smith, 86, Britthaven of Davidson, formerly of Bridge Street, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Born March 20, 1913, in Rowan County, Miss. Smith was a daughter of the late John Frank and Winnie Misenhimer Smith. She lived in Davidson County most of her life and was a homemaker and a member of Trading Ford Baptist Church.

Survivors include sisters Pauline Smith and Myrtle Fox, both of Lexington; and brother Ernest Smith, Lexington.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Dr. Stephen Martin. Burial, Trading Ford Baptist Church, Rowan County.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Piedmont Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at their respective homes.

Marjorie F.Wilson

BURLINGTON — Marjorie Fraley Wilson, 83, formerly of 2505 Hickory Ave., died Friday (Jan. 7, 2000) at White Oak Manor after 10 years of failing health.

Born in Salisbury, Mrs. Wilson was a daughter of the late William Thomas and Ada P. Fraley Troxler. A retired bookkeeper, she was a member of First Baptist Church, Burlington, where she taught Sunday School for more than 50 years and served on numerous church committees.

Her husband, Marvin Glen Wilson, preceded her in death.

She is survived by sister Frances Fraley Grover, Baltimore.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, chapel of First Baptist Church, Burlington, conducted by Dr. Craig McMahan. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury, at a later date.
