LINWOOD Elvin Lee Allen,
73, of Old Salisbury Road died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at his home after a sudden illness.
Born Aug. 21, 1926 in Davidson
County, Mr. Allen was the son of the late Burl Franklin Allen and Letha Jarvis Allen. He
was owner and operator of Davidson Fence Builders and E. Allen Enterprise.
He was preceded in death by
daughter Janice Allen Holder and brother Earl Allen.
Survivors include his wife,
Lucille Ryder, of the home; son Eddie Allen, Atlanta, four grand and three
great-grandchildren.

Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 2, 1943 in Stanly
County, Mr. Almond was last employed as a sales representative for Triad Mack Truck. He
was a member of Porter Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his
father, Grover Cleveland Almond.
Survivors include his wife,
Patricia Swaringen Almond, New London; mother Lessie Elmond, Albemarle; daughter-in-law
Bonnie Almond, New London; sons Darnell and Jeremy Almond, both of New London; Louise
Hardister, Albemarle; and two grandchildren.

The Rev. Allen Webster Joslin, 84,
1403 Willington Hills Circle, died Saturday (Jan. 1, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical
Center.
Born April 27, 1915 in West
Warwick, Rhode Island, the Rev. Joslin was the son of the late Elizabeth Terry Batchelder
Joslin and Harry Almoran Joslin. A graduate of the University of the South in Sewanee,
Tenn., he received his masters degree in sacred theology from Yale University and a
masters degree in English Literature from the University of Rhode Island.
Ordained in May 1945, he was a
priest at several churches in South Carolina and priest in charge at St. Pauls
Episcopal Church of Salisbury from 1980 to 1992 before retiring.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn
Basto Fuller Joslin; sons Stephen Allen Joslin and David Nelson Joslin, both of Salisbury;
John Elliott Joslin, Charlotte, and Peter Webster Joslin, McCormick, S.C.; daughter Emil
Elizabeth Fuller Malinowski, Dodgeville, Wis.; sister Adra Caroline Kelly of Warren, Rhode
Island; and nine grandchildren.

Hubert Mason, 74, 32163 Old Parker
Road, Albemarle, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 13, 1925 in Stanly
County, Mr. Mason was the son of the late Joseph Mason and Libby Wise Mason. He was a
retired maintenance worker for Albemarle Spinning Mills. He served in the U.S.Army during
the Korean War, as a member of the 85th FA Battery. He received the National Defense
Service Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a lifetime
member of the Stanly County DAVand the American Legion. He was a member of Union Chapel
United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty
P. Mason, Albemarle; daughter Ann Smith, Albemarle; brothers Bobby and David Mason, both
of Albemarle, and Roy and Walter Mason, both of New London; sister Rose Mae Woodle,
Albemarle; and four grandchildren.

Cashion Mesimer, 84, 9880 Archer Road, died Saturday (Jan. 1, 2000) at her home.
Born May 20, 1915 in Rowan County,
Mrs. Mesimer was a daughter of the late Walter Thomas and Ulla Hegler Cashion. She retired
from Cannon Mills Plant 4 and was self-employed with her husband at Cedar Grove Dairy
Farm. She was a lifelong member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Coy

Honeycutt Phillips, 71, 2603 Entrance Ave., Kannapolis, died Saturday (Jan. 1, 2000) at
Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Born May 15, 1928 in Cabarrus
County, Mrs. Phillips was a daughter of Cecil Bolick Upright, Kannapolis, and the late
Robert Red Upright. She retired from Cannon Mills and was a member of Gods Church of
Faith.
She was preceded in death by her
first husband, Cleveland J. C.J. Honeycutt.
Survivors, in addition to her
mother, include her husband, Roy Phillips; daughters Elizabeth Honeycutt Jones,
Mocksville, and Paula Honeycutt Wood, Stanly County; son Timothy C. Honeycutt, Kannapolis;
stepson Dale Phillips, Rockwell; stepdaughter Diane Hunter, Granite Quarry; five
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Carl Hall Pickler
Carl Hall Pickler, 85, of Rockwell
died Saturday (Jan. 1, 2000) at Laurels of Salisbury after six months of declining health.
Born March 21, 1914 in Rowan
County, Mr. Pickler was the son of the late Lillie Roxanna Holshouser Pickler and the late
Retha Loveless Pickler. Educated at Crescent School, Mr. Pickler retired from Plant
1s Sheet Department at Cannon Mills. He was an avid farmer.
His wife, Geneva Bostian Pickler,
died on June 16, 1978.
Survivors include son Ray Carl
Pickler, Rockwell; daughters Mary Stevens, Joan Brines and Patty Jane White, all of
Concord; sister Florence Miller, Salisbury; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

NorthEast Medical Center.
Born Oct. 22, 1922, in Comer, Ga.,
Mrs. Pierce was a daughter of the late Eva Moon Smith and William Bill Wiley
Smith. She retired from Cannon Mills Sewing Department and was a member of Eastwood
Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by
husband H. Jack Pierce and stepmother Mary Smith.
Survivors include sons Steve and
Doug Pierce Sr., both of Kannapolis; daughter Joan Plott of the home; and four

William Robert Scheib, 64,
Salisbury, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at his home.
Born March 2, 1935, in Pittsburgh,
Pa., Mr. Scheib was a son of the late Marion Way Scheib and Ray Scheib. He was a graduate
of Piqua High School in Piqua, Ohio and a design engineer for Steel Equipment Specialists
of Alliance, Ohio. He held several international and domestic patents for steel design. He
moved to Salisbury in 1999. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he sang in
the choir.
Survivors include his wife,
Jacquelin Sears Scheib; sons Raymond Scheib, Hookstown, Pa., and Michael Bulin, Colorado
Springs, Colo.; daughters Lezlie Nye, Upper Marlboro, Md., and Barbara Tzanakis, Chippewa

Mrs. Hames was a daughter of the late Minnie Freeman Hames and Burl L. Hames. She was a
homemaker and a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, the Chancel Choir, the
administrative board and the Cornella Kirk Sunday School class. She attended First Baptist
Church of Spencer and the Mary-Martha Sunday School class.
She was preceded in death by
husband Robert Bob Alexander Williams Jr. and son Robert Bobbie
Alexander Williams, III.

Ila Michael and Lucille Kirkus.
