Mary Beddington Cecil

WASHINGTON, N.C. — Mary Beddington Cecil, 69, 201 E. 2nd St., died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at her home.

Born May 22, 1930, in Guilford County, Mrs. Cecil was a daughter of the late Frank W. and Nellie Branch Beddington. Prior to moving to Washington in 1984, she lived in Salisbury. She was a the manager of an apartment complex.

Survivors include daughter Shirley C. Price, Ivor, Va.; son Robert B. Cecil, China Grove; sisters Jessie Porter and Cora Mae Bradley, both of High Point; brother Robert J. Beddington, Mocksville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 3 p.m. Monday, Paul Funeral Home Chapel, Washington. Burial, Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Paul Funeral Home.

The Rev. Allen Webster Joslin, 84, 1403 Wellington Hills Circle, died Saturday (Jan. 1, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Alfred Grey Plyler

ALBEMARLE — Alfred Grey Plyler, 85, 708 N. Depot St., died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999) at his home.

Born May 18, 1914, in Stanly County, Mr. Plyler was a son of the late Lawrence and Lizzie Teeter Plyler. A retired employee of Wiscassett Mill, he was a member of Congregational Christian Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

His wife, Nan Hearne Plyler, died in 1971.

Survivors include daughter Lauretta Forrest, Charlotte; brother Paul Plyler, Concord; sister Ruby Whitley, Charlotte; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Congregational Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dolan Talbert. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home.

Rachel Crisco Whittington

MOORESVILLE — Rachel Crisco Whittington, 86, East Gray Street, died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 26, 1913, in Mooresville, Mrs. Whittington was a daughter of the late King David and Cora Scercy Crisco. She formerly worked in the spinning room at Burlington Industries and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Whittington, sons D. Eugene and Jerry Whittington and daughter Joan W. Hudson.

Survivors include sons Carlton Whittington, Mooresville, and John P. Whittington, Birmingham, Ala.; sister Reba Lunsford Crosby, Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. today, Cavin Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. James A. Hunt. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Doris Louise Bouldin

MOCKSVILLE — Doris Louise Bouldin, 63, Deadmon Road, died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999) at her home.

Born June 13, 1936, in Lee County, Mrs. Bouldin was a daughter of the late Baxter and Betsy Poole Malone. She had been employed as an in-home caregiver.

Survivors include daughters Pat Garcia, Cooleemee, Sara Kimbell, China Grove, and Kathryn Jordan, Sanford; sons Jerry Bouldin, Lexington, James Bouldin Jr., Rockwell, and Ronnie Jordan, Sanford; brothers James Malone, Sanford, and Woodrow Malone, Lexington; sisters Judy Bouldin, Gold Hill, and Annie Fauldin and Mary Lee Nall, both of Sanford; and six grandchildren.

Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Sunday, Davie Funeral Service Chapel, conducted by Robert Creason. The body will be cremated.

Visitation: Following the memorial service at the funeral home.

 

Bobby Gene Caldwell

ALBEMARLE — Bobby Gene Caldwell, 40, Highway 24/27, died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born March 17, 1959, in Gaston County, Mr. Caldwell was a son of Lou Ellen Carpenter Caldwell, Winston-Salem, and the late Sam A. Caldwell. He was a house painter.

In addition to his mother, survivors include son Sam Caldwell, Norwood; brothers Clayton Sam Caldwell, Albemarle, and James Randy Caldwell, Stanley; and sister Lara Jean Caldwell, Albemarle.

ROCKWELL — Florence Watts Fortner, 89, Rockwell, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Elmer C. Freeze

KANNAPOLIS — Elmer C. Freeze, 70, 5780 October Lane, died unexpectedly Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at his home.

Born Jan. 19, 1929, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Freeze was a son of the late Chance and Maude Rumple Freeze. He worked for about 35 years in the slasher room of Fieldcrest Cannon Plant No. 4, until he retired in 1995.

He was also a commercial fisherman for many years and a member of Eastwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Crisco Freeze; son Darryl Freeze, Mooresville; daughters Linda Sharpe, Davidson, and Janice Cress, Kannapolis; brother Frank Freeze, Davidson; sister Lillian Overcash, Mooresville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dallas Bennett. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Carol Ann Doby Martin, 56, of Salisbury, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at her residence.

William Robert Scheib, 64, of Salisbury, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at his residence.

Georgetta P. Simpson

DALLAS, Texas — Georgetta Pinkston Simpson, 54, Dallas, died Tuesday (Dec. 28, 1999) in Dallas after a 22-year battle with multiple sclerosis.

Born Aug. 30, 1945, in Wilmington, N.C., Mrs. Simpson was a daughter of Myrtle Pinkston, New Braunfels, Texas, and the late Staley Lee Pinkston. She was a former resident of Salisbury, N.C., and attended Boyden High School.

In addition to her mother, survivors include sisters Jeannie Lee Wingerter, New Braunfels, Texas, and Kay Scolari, Round Rock, Texas.

Services: Memorial, 3 p.m. Tuesday, Arapaho United Methodist Church, Richardson, Texas.

BOONE — Elizabeth ‘Lib’ South Storie, 78, 450 Cherry Drive, died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999).

Survivors include daughter Julie Cline, of Salisbury.
