Reep Sasser Beck

ReepSasser Beck, 90, Salisbury, died Monday (Feb. 28, 2000) at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.

The family will be at the home of daughter Sally B. Corriher, 445 Corriher Gravel Road, China Grove.

 

Paul Watkins Laton

ALBEMARLE — The funeral will be Wednesday for Paul Watkins Laton, 89, formerly of 32014 Highway 740, who died Sunday (Feb. 27, 2000) at Triangle Hospice of the Meadowlands, Hillsborough.

Born March 19, 1910, in Stanly County, Mr. Laton was a son of the late Preston J. and Annie Biles Laton. He had retired as secretary and treasurer of Custom Doors Inc., formerly Laton’s Cabinet Shop. A member of Anderson Grove Baptist Church, he was a former deacon.

His wife of 66 years, Madaline Almond Laton, preceded him in death.

Survivors include son Paul W. Laton Jr., Durham; daughters Mrs. Graham (Jeanette)Russell, Durham, and Mrs. Johnny (Phyllis)Forrest, Norwood; brother P.J. Laton Jr., Albemarle; four grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Anderson Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ron Honeycutt and the Rev. Marvin Honeycutt. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Phyllis L. Forrest, 46483 Randalls Church Road, Norwood.

Memorials: Triangle Hospice at the Meadowlands, 1001 Corporate Drive, Hillsborough, N.C. 27278.

 

Billy Ray Linville

MOORESVILLE —Billy Ray Linville, 72, 168 Southwood Road, died Monday (Feb. 28, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 9, 1927, in Davan, W.Va., Mr. Linville was a son of Zora Bishop Linville, Mooresville, and the late Dell Linville. A former maintenance worker, he was a member of Peninsula Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the Mooresville Stroke Support Group.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Mary Gannon Linville.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Peninsula Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Robert Jackson. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Pearl Foil Rary

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Pearl Foil Rary, 92, formerly of Kannapolis and New London, who died Sunday (Feb. 27, 2000) at Concord Nursing Center.

Born Sept. 8, 1907, in Rowan County, Mrs. Rary was a daughter of the late William Monroe and Ella Jeanette Hodge Foil. She had retired after 30 years at Cannon Mills, Plant 1, sewing room. She was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Vernell Eugene Rary, died March 4, 1995.

Survivors include sons Everette Rary, Concord, and Franklin Rary, New London; sisters Alma Overcash, Concord, and Jane Morgan, Kannapolis; brothers Frank Foil, Kannapolis, and Floyd Foil, Rockwell; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Hoke Ritchie and the Rev. Doug Kearney. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2-3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of son Everette Rary, 3737 Odell School Road, Concord.

Memorials: Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, 101 Vance St., Kannapolis, N.C. 28081.

 

Doc Rickerson

CONCORD — Doc Henry Rickerson, 89, 3214 Trinity Church Drive, died Monday (Feb. 28, 2000) at his home.

Lady’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, is in charge.

 

Ina McLendon Washington

BADIN — Ina McLendon Washington, 75, 218 Lincoln St., died Sunday (Feb. 27, 2000) at the Laurels of Salisbury.

Born Sept. 20, 1924, in Anson County, Mrs. Washington was a daughter of the late Willie Key and Anna Richardson McLendon. A graduate of the Anson County schools, she had attended Livingstone College.

She had retired from Federal Pacific Electric, Albemarle. She was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, the Thrifty Saving Club and Badin Chapter 457, Order of the Eastern Star (Prince Hall-affiliated).

Survivors include husband Ernest Washington; sons Ernest Washington Jr. and Jonathan Washington, both of Badin; daughters Patricia McKenzie, Salisbury, and Nicole Washington, of the home; brothers Lester and Eddie McLendon, both of Albemarle; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. David L. Thompson. Burial, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery, Ansonville.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Helen Leazer Wood

Helen Leazer Wood, 81, 1023 Old Plank Road, died Monday (Feb. 28, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born July 12, 1918, in Rowan County, Mrs. Wood was a daughter of the late Lee Ander L. Leazer and Dora Elizabeth Perkins Leazer. She was a graduate of J.C. Price High School and a 1941 graduate of Livingstone College. She had retired in 1981 after 35 years as a teacher.

She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where she was involved with the Episcopal Church Women and the Catherine-Margaret Guild. Also a member of the Miller’s Recreation Senior Citizens and the West End Community Club, she was a past president of the West Marsh Street Community Club.

Survivors include daughters Dora V. Wood, of the home, and Irene P. King, Salisbury; a grandson reared in the home, Michael P. Prothro, Hyattsville, Md.; and brothers Perry Leazer, Kernersville, and Harry Bennett Leazer, Salisbury.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Bobby ‘B.J.’ Lewis

CHARLOTTE — The funeral will be Wednesday for Bobby “B.J.” Lewis, 43, 2114 Longleaf Drive, who died at his home Thursday (Feb. 24, 2000).

Services: 4 p.m. Wednesday, A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. John G. Gaston. Burial, 11 a.m. Thursday, National Cemetery, Salisbury. Military rites by Rowan Veterans Council.

Visitation: 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
