This week Frey's Investors couldn't wait to check the stock section in the Salisbury Post.
The sound of crinkling paper filled the room as each student flipped to page 7A,
frantically highlighting our five stocks: Qualcomm, America Online, Microsoft, Dell
computer and The Gap.
We were excited to find that Qualcomm (Qcom) was up to 131.46 from last week's 122.44.
Microsoft (Msft) held its own at 96.56. AOL was down five points from last week. Dell had
climbed three points. We were surprised The Gap had dropped to 43.63 from last week's 50.
Frey's Investors profits were at 43 percent last week. This week our profits are at 48
percent.
Some members of the class discussed selling Dell, just as we sold Nike back in November.
The students decided that we would hold onto Dell a little longer to avoid selling at a
loss. Hopefully we can wait until it climbs back up to over 40 and sell it for a slight
profit.
The stock we are all watching with anticipation is Qualcomm. It is our 'star stock.' We
watched it climb 9 points in the past week. How many points will it climb this week?
We will check the stock report again next week, frantically searching the crinkling paper.
