Witt Darnell Alexander

Witt Darnell Alexander, 43, 206 E. Earnhardt St., died Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2000) at Rowan RegionalMedical Center.

Born May 14, 1956, in Rowan County, Mr. Alexander was a son of Martha Killian Johnson, of the home, and the late Robert Krider. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he had last worked as a construction worker.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include sons Witt Darnell Alexander Jr., of the home, and Koleon Gregory, Salisbury; paternal grandfather Hezekiah Krider, Salisbury; brothers Marshall and Wayne Alexander, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Joseph Alexander and Clarence Ross, both of Atlanta, Ga., Thomas and Nathaniel Alexander and Rodney Krider, all of Salisbury, Thomas Rabb, East Spencer, and Frank Alexander, Statesville; and sisters Rena Boose and Margaret Norton, Brooklyn, N.Y., Julia A. Krider, Salisbury, Vonnie and Nancy Krider, both of East Spencer, Valarie Washington and Robin Krider, both of Granite Quarry, Josephine Fields, Baltimore, Md., and Sandra Johnson, Columbia, S.C.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Bobby Gene Branham

CHINA GROVE — Bobby Gene Branham, 68, 175 Woodland Drive, died Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2000) at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Born Aug. 31, 1931, in Iredell County, Mr. Branham was a son of the late Ben George and Ola Johnson Branham. He attended the Iredell County schools and Landis High School and worked as a carrier for the Salisbury Post for 33 years.

A member of Landis Baptist Church, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include wife Dorothy Milem Branham, whom he married Sept. 25, 1965; sons Eric Branham, of the home, Bobby Branham Jr., Faith, and Kenneth and Darrell Branham, both of Rockwell; daughters Lori Carter, Concord, and Leslie Reece, China Grove; sisters Juanita Farrington, China Grove, and Phyllis Richardson, Salisbury; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Landis Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Billy Honeycutt, pastor, and the Rev. Richard Horn, former pastor. Burial, Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery. Military rites by Rowan Veterans Council.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home on Woodland Drive.

Dorothy Holt Garrison

Dorothy Holt Garrison, 79, Trinity Oaks, formerly of Pine Tree Road, died Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born April 25, 1920, in Spring Grove, Minn., Mrs. Garrison was a daughter of the late Arthur P. and Amanda Myhro Glasrud. A graduate of Spring Grove High School, she was a secretary with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. She later worked as a preschool teacher at Sharon Presbyterian Church, Charlotte.

She was a member of First PresbyterianChurch and Circle 4.

Her first husband, William Linville Holt, died in October 1979.

Survivors include husband Ross W. “Jack”Garrison; son Richard A. Holt, Houston, Texas; daughter Patricia H. Peterson, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; stepdaughter Elizabeth “Betty” Yearout, Charleston, S.C.; sisters Sylvia Meitrodt, St. Paul, Minn., Lillian Stenejhem and Marcy Roberts, both of Rochester, Minn.; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, First Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. Robert M. Lewis, pastor, and the Rev. Jim Foil, associate pastor. Burial, 3 p.m. Thursday, Mount Gur Cemetery, Kernersville.

Visitation: At the church after the service.

Betty Crisco Kirk

Betty Crisco Kirk, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Feb. 23, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Brenda Goss Luke

MONROE — Brenda Goss Luke, 51, Monroe, died Monday (Feb. 21, 2000).

Born Nov. 26, 1948, in Rowan County, Mrs. Luke was a daughter of the late William Roy and Pruellar Hazel Campbell Goss.

Survivors include husband Charles Franklin Luke, Indian Trail; son Ernest E. “Duke”Wilson, Monroe; daughter Virginia “Chris” Little, Marshville; brother Jerry Goss, Mississippi; sisters Alice Ross and Sherhonda Anderson, both of China Grove; and four grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Thursday, Monroe City Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. David Stegall.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Gordon Funeral Service.

Grady Thomas Nail

MOCKSVILLE — The funeral will be Thursday for Grady Thomas Nail, 88, Daisy Lane, who died Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2000) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born Sept. 3, 1911, in Davie County, Mr. Nail was a son of the late Alec and Callie Mae McCullough Nail. Retired from Heritage Furniture Co., he was a member of Concord United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Zola Swicegood Nail, who died in 1988, and a daughter, Shelby Pardue.

Survivors include son Thomas Nail, Mocksville; daughters Berlie Dean Waller and Donnie Beddington, both of Mocksville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday,Concord United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Phillip Park. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Eaton Funeral Home.

Ada Gobbel Pickett

SPENCER — Ada Virginia Gobbel Pickett, 91, Spencer, died Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2000) at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury is in charge.

 

Bula Savage

KANNAPOLIS — Bula Ayres Savage, 91, formerly of China Grove Road, died Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2000).

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Hazel Bryant Sloop

KANNAPOLIS — Hazel Bryant Sloop, 87,formerly of Kannapolis, died Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2000) at Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home.

Born Dec. 31, 1912, in Rowan County, Mrs. Sloop was a daughter of the late George Edward and Ollie Grubb Bryant. She retired several years ago from Cannon Mills Plant One finishing department. She had previously worked at Terry Products. A member of New Hope Lutheran Church, she was a former Sunday school teacher.

Her husband, Harry Levy Sloop, died Jan. 29, 1981.

Survivors include foster daughter Dianne L. Wallace, Salisbury; and two foster grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Joseph Kovitch. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Dianne L. Wallace, 245 White Crane Road, Salisbury.
