Thomas ‘Tommy’ Freeman

LEXINGTON — Thomas Eartle “Tommy” Freeman, 55, 3462 Horseshoe Neck Road, died Tuesday (Feb. 15, 2000) at his home.

Piedmont Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Robert Junior Kelley

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Robert Junior Kelley, 78, 2505 Linda Ave., who died Sunday (Feb. 13, 2000) at Brian Center Nurse and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, after several years of declining health.

Born Aug. 9, 1921, in Rock Hill, S.C., Mr. Kelley was a son of the late Sam and Julia Douglas Kelley. He was educated in the RowanCounty schools and had retired from Fieldcrest Cannon after 42 years.

He was a member of Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church and former member of the Spiritual Chorus.

A son, James Montgomery, preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife of 53 years Willie Mae Montgomery Kelley; son Robert Vinson Kelley, Kannapolis; daughter Mrs. Robert (Mary)Glaspy, Kannapolis; brother Mitchell Henderson, Spencer; sisters Rosa Mae Wilson, Concord, Mary Louise Graves, Greensboro, and Julia Roseburough, Spencer; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Harry Gaston. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Katherine H. McClain

KANNAPOLIS — Katherine Hampton McClain, 84, Big Elm Retirement Center, died Tuesday (Feb. 15, 2000) at the nursing center after a year of declining health.

Born Jan. 16, 1916, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. McClain was a daughter of the late Curtis Lee and Kate Faggart Hampton. She was a graduate of Cannon High School. A retired textile worker, she left Cannon Mills in the 1970s after 45 years.

Her husband, Ray McClain, died in 1981.

Survivors include daughter Charlotte McClain Nelson, Burke, Va.; sister Johnsie Wiseman, Sarasota, Fla.; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

Services: Graveside, 10 a.m. Thursday, Carolina Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. James Masters.

Visitation: 9-10 a.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home.

 

David Commie Myers, 100

The funeral will be Thursday for David Commie Myers, 100, 1840 Peach Orchard Road, who died Sunday (Feb. 13, 2000) at Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, after a year of declining health and a month of serious illness.

Born March 26, 1899, in Iredell County, he was the foster son of the late Mary Souther. In his earlier years, he owned and operated Boulevard Lunch Cafe in North Kannapolis. He later retired after 70 years from Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1 bleachery department. An area resident since 1929, he was a charter member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church, along with his late wife, Rosa Lee Jolly Myers, who died April 14, 1999.

Survivors include daughters Sue Justice, Dermott, Ark., Hazel Watts, Taylorsville, and Novella Abernathy, Salisbury; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel,Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Ricky Brown, the Rev. Derald Adams and the Rev. Leon Hawks. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Novella Abernathy, 355 Vineyard Drive.

Addie Fraley Snuggs

ALBEMARLE —Addie Fraley Snuggs, 90, 24724 U.S. Hwy. 52, died Monday (Feb. 14, 2000) at Albemarle Lutheran Home.

Born Sept. 30, 1909, in Stanly County, Mrs. Snuggs was a daughter of the late Frank and Ida Lentz Fraley. She retired from United Mill, Mount Gilead, and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Mount Gilead.

Her husband, Frank H. Snuggs, died in 1976.

Survivors include daughter Frances Rabren, Albemarle; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and one great-great-grandson.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Stanly Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Mabry. Burial, Bethel Baptist Church cemetery, Mount Gilead.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
