Raymond Wilson Rufty
Raymond Wilson Rufty, 84, died Sunday (Feb. 13,
2000) at his home after a recent period of declining health.
Born Oct. 14, 1915, in Salisbury, he was a son of
the late Oliver Oscho and Mary L. Lemly Rufty. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he
was a 1934 graduate of Boyden High School.
During World War II, he worked in a munitions
plant in Durham. He had retired in 1981 from O. O. Rufty General Store, where he was
co-owner.
A member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, he
served as an officer in the Fisher-Cox Sunday School Class and was a member of the Golden
Opportunity Club. He received the Silent Angel Award for his volunteer work in 1998.
His wife, Annie Elizabeth Kluttz Rufty, died June
9, 1993.
Survivors include daughters Esther R. Hodgin,
Salisbury, Ruby R. Rutherford, Rangiora, New Zealand, Luann R. Bridle, Walnut Cove, and
Raye Rufty, Asheville; brothers Fred C. Rufty and Charles W. Rufty, both of Salisbury;
sisters Virginia Rufty Deal, China Grove, and Ruth Rufty Patterson, Spencer; and two
grandchildren.

Ruby Elizabeth Trexler
Ruby Elizabeth McCoy Trexler, 76, died Saturday
(Feb. 12, 2000) at Genesis ElderCare after being in declining health for several years and
seriously ill for a month.
Born Feb. 22, 1923, in Wilkes County, she was a
daughter of the late Presley Lester and Elizabeth Mowery McCoy. She had retired from
Hefner VA Medical Center after 15 years of service in the food service department.
Her husband, Reid Melvin Trexler, died Aug. 8,
1967.
Survivors include daughters Linda Stoner,
Rockwell, and Shirley Stanley, Salisbury; four grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS Bessie Cunningham Wilson, 85,
Kannapolis, died Saturday (Feb. 12, 2000) at Beverly Health Care Center, Charlotte, after
several years of declining health.
Born Sept. 26, 1914, in Lancaster, S.C., she was a
daughter of the late Rev. Joe and Annie Brown Cunningham. Educated in the Lincoln County
public schools, she had retired from Fieldcrest Cannon.
A member of True Holiness Church of God,
Kannapolis, she served as a deaconess and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the
Usher Board and the Missionary Circle as well. She was a former member of the Home
Demonstration Club.
Her husband, Bishop Charlie Wilson, died June 8,
1994.
Survivors include daughters Aurelia W. Mingo,
Kannapolis, and Joann W. Lucy, Prenetta W. Martin and Gwendolyn W. Griffin, all of
Charlotte; brothers Curtis Cunningham, Lincolnton, and Larry Cunningham, Cornelius;
sisters Almeta C. Patterson and Roxanna C. Tinsley, both of Iron Station, and Virginia C.
Franklin, University Heights, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS Britt Wingler, 86, died Sunday
(Feb. 13, 2000) at St. Andrews Living Center, Concord.
Born Dec. 22, 1913, in Wilkes County, he was a son
of the late Eliga and Luvina W. Wingler. Formerly employed by the R.S. Braswell Co. he was
a farmer for many years.
His wife, Dotsie Drye Wingler, died in 1992. Also
preceding him in death were a stepson, Jerry Miller, and a daughter, Sarah Miller.
Survivors include son David Miller, Kansas;
daughter Novella Wingler, North Wilkesboro; stepsons Mike Miller, Kannapolis, and Steve
Miller, Kansas; stepdaughter Tina McDonald, Concord; brothers Tam Wingler, Troutman, and
Jack Wingler, Kannapolis; sister Tamer Carpenter, Kannapolis; and a number of
grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
