Randy Heath

KANNAPOLIS - Randall Ray “Randy” Heath, 44, 5424 Irish Potato Road, died Sunday (Feb. 13, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Phillip Warren Barger

ROCKWELL — Phillip Warren Barger, 54, Rockwell, died Sunday (Feb. 13, 2000) at Brightmoor Nursing Home, Salisbury.

Powles Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Mary Louise Gulledge

MOCKSVILLE — Mary Louise Gulledge, 81, Michaels Road, died Sunday (Feb. 13, 2000) at Autumn Care of Mocksville.

Born Oct. 11, 1918, in Fredericksburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Eunice Willoughby and Clive Cox. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include sons Robey Gulledge of Rappahanock, Va., Garey Gulledge of Granite Quarry, Harry Gulledge of Advance; daughters Mary Jane Luffman of Winston-Salem, and Eunice Burgess of Sperry, Okla.; brothers Billy Cox and Charles Hinton; sister Charlotte Bane; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, graveside, Cox Family Cemetery in Dugspur, Va., conducted by the Rev. Alfred Pinkerton.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Eaton Funeral Service.

 

Penny Finn Mangum

YOUNGSVILLE — Penny Finn Mangum, 69, 146 Cooley Road, mother of Joe Ann Bilyeu of Salisbury, died Sunday (Feb. 13, 2000) at Raleigh Community Hospital, Raleigh.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oak Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Earnie Taylor. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: Tonight, 7-8:30, Bright Funeral Home, Wake Forest.

 

Robert Kelly

KANNAPOLIS — Robert Kelly, 77, 2511 Lynda Ave., died Sunday (Feb. 13, 2000) at Brian Nursing Center, Salisbury.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Joseph Rutledge Jr.

STANLEY — Joseph Graham Rutledge Jr., 96, 201 Old Highway 27, died Saturday (Feb. 12, 2000) at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia. He was the father of Joseph Graham Rutledge III of Salisbury.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, memorial service, Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home , 412 S. Main St. Burial, Stanley Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Raymond Wilson Rufty

Raymond Wilson Rufty, 84, died Sunday (Feb. 13, 2000) at his home after a recent period of declining health.

Born Oct. 14, 1915, in Salisbury, he was a son of the late Oliver Oscho and Mary L. Lemly Rufty. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he was a 1934 graduate of Boyden High School.

During World War II, he worked in a munitions plant in Durham. He had retired in 1981 from O. O. Rufty General Store, where he was co-owner.

A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, he served as an officer in the Fisher-Cox Sunday School Class and was a member of the Golden Opportunity Club. He received the Silent Angel Award for his volunteer work in 1998.

His wife, Annie Elizabeth Kluttz Rufty, died June 9, 1993.

Survivors include daughters Esther R. Hodgin, Salisbury, Ruby R. Rutherford, Rangiora, New Zealand, Luann R. Bridle, Walnut Cove, and Raye Rufty, Asheville; brothers Fred C. Rufty and Charles W. Rufty, both of Salisbury; sisters Virginia Rufty Deal, China Grove, and Ruth Rufty Patterson, Spencer; and two grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl R. Sachtleben, senior pastor, and the Rev. Neville Storey of Morganton. Burial in City Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Memorials: St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St., Salisbury, N.C. 28144.

 

Ruby Elizabeth Trexler

Ruby Elizabeth McCoy Trexler, 76, died Saturday (Feb. 12, 2000) at Genesis ElderCare after being in declining health for several years and seriously ill for a month.

Born Feb. 22, 1923, in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of the late Presley Lester and Elizabeth Mowery McCoy. She had retired from Hefner VA Medical Center after 15 years of service in the food service department.

Her husband, Reid Melvin Trexler, died Aug. 8, 1967.

Survivors include daughters Linda Stoner, Rockwell, and Shirley Stanley, Salisbury; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by Dr. Jim McCoy and the Rev. Joe Black.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home.

Memorials: Carolina Piedmont Chapter, Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N. C. 28215-3298.

 

Bessie Wilson

KANNAPOLIS — Bessie Cunningham Wilson, 85, Kannapolis, died Saturday (Feb. 12, 2000) at Beverly Health Care Center, Charlotte, after several years of declining health.

Born Sept. 26, 1914, in Lancaster, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Rev. Joe and Annie Brown Cunningham. Educated in the Lincoln County public schools, she had retired from Fieldcrest Cannon.

A member of True Holiness Church of God, Kannapolis, she served as a deaconess and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Usher Board and the Missionary Circle as well. She was a former member of the Home Demonstration Club.

Her husband, Bishop Charlie Wilson, died June 8, 1994.

Survivors include daughters Aurelia W. Mingo, Kannapolis, and Joann W. Lucy, Prenetta W. Martin and Gwendolyn W. Griffin, all of Charlotte; brothers Curtis Cunningham, Lincolnton, and Larry Cunningham, Cornelius; sisters Almeta C. Patterson and Roxanna C. Tinsley, both of Iron Station, and Virginia C. Franklin, University Heights, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services; 2 p.m. Wednesday, A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel of Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home, conducted by Elder J. L. Parker, pastor of True Temple of God, Statesville. Burial in Rutherford Cemetery, Concord.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Aurelia W. Mingo, 345 Esther Circle.

 

Britt Wingler

KANNAPOLIS — Britt Wingler, 86, died Sunday (Feb. 13, 2000) at St. Andrews Living Center, Concord.

Born Dec. 22, 1913, in Wilkes County, he was a son of the late Eliga and Luvina W. Wingler. Formerly employed by the R.S. Braswell Co. he was a farmer for many years.

His wife, Dotsie Drye Wingler, died in 1992. Also preceding him in death were a stepson, Jerry Miller, and a daughter, Sarah Miller.

Survivors include son David Miller, Kansas; daughter Novella Wingler, North Wilkesboro; stepsons Mike Miller, Kannapolis, and Steve Miller, Kansas; stepdaughter Tina McDonald, Concord; brothers Tam Wingler, Troutman, and Jack Wingler, Kannapolis; sister Tamer Carpenter, Kannapolis; and a number of grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Richard Pethel. Graveside rites, 3 p.m. Wednesday at Royal Cemetery in Wilkes County.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home.
