Lucille Swicegood Arnold

ALBEMARLE — Lucille Swicegood Arnold, 70, 26425 Scaly Bark Road, died Thursday (Feb. 10, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 15, 1930, in Rowan County, Mrs. Arnold formerly inspected parts for General Motors, Flint, Mich. She was a member of Canton Baptist Church, Albemarle.

Mrs. Arnold was preceded in death by her first husband, James Rogers Briggs, and her second husband, Kelley Dennis Arnold.

Survivors include son David Briggs, Albemarle; and sisters Ruby Goss, Oakboro, Margaret Henderson, Salisbury, Linda Tickle, Kannapolis, and Joyce James, Nashville, Tenn.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Hartsell Chapel, Midland, conducted by the Rev. Les Schofield. Burial, Westlawn Cemetery, China Grove.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland. At other times the family will be at the residence.

 

“Joe” Floyd Gillespie

Joseph “Joe” Floyd Gillespie, 86, Salisbury, died Friday (Feb. 11, 2000) at his residence.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Tyna Marie Mabry

Tyna Marie Mabry, 39, China Grove, died Thursday (Feb. 10, 2000) at her residence.

Born Sept. 17, 1960, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Nellie Marie and John Wadsworth Mabry Jr. A 1978 graduate of South Rowan High School, she was also a graduate of Salisbury Business College. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, China Grove.

Survivors include brother Joe K. Mabry, China Grove; and sisters Donna M. Hopkins and Jaye Van Honbarger, both of Salisbury.

Services: Memorial service, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, First United Methodist Church, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Rusty Inman, pastor. The body will be cremated.

Visitation: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday, Langford Hall, First United Methodist Church, China Grove.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.

Sally Hart Ritchie

LANDIS — Sally Emalene Hart Ritchie, 83, 801 N. Chapel St., died Thursday (Feb. 10, 2000) at her residence.

Born Nov. 25, 1916, in Ashe County, Mrs. Ritchie was a daughter of the late Effie Woodie and David Hart. Educated in the Ashe County schools, she had retired from Cannon Mills, Swink Plant. A server at the China Grove meal site, she was a member of Lane Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include husband Alis A. Ritchie; son Charles Ritchie, Landis; daughters Becky Lyman and Nancy Simmons, both of Landis; sisters Floe Long, Kannapolis, Carrie Phillips, Moravian Falls, Mary Kate Biggs, Lenoir, and Blanche Bowman Heffner, Morganton; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Northcrest Chapel, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Donald Abernathy and the Rev. Todd Galloway. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the residence.

 

Carol Bradshaw Setzer

MOORESVILLE — Carol Jean Bradshaw Setzer, 54, 2527 Lane St., Kannapolis, formerly of Mooresville, died Friday (Feb. 11, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born April 25, 1945, in Iredell County, Mrs. Setzer was a daughter of Mary Combs Bradshaw McNeely, Mooresville, and the late Charlie Bradshaw. She was employed by Draymore Manufacturing Co.

Survivors include husband Ray Setzer; daughter Cathy Duncan, China Grove; brothers Richard Bradshaw, Mooresville, and Charles W. Bradshaw, Atlanta; stepfather James McNeely, Mooresville; and one granddaughter.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Prospect Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Jeanne Hull. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Neill Funeral Home.

Katherine Cooper Swanner

ALBEMARLE — Katherine Cooper Swanner, 82, 523 Avondale Ave., died Friday (Feb. 11, 2000) at her home.

Born Jan. 10, 1918, in Stanly County, Mrs. Swanner was a daughter of the late Mary Ella Craven and Thomas Lee Cooper. She had retired as a secretary for Helms Motor Express and Service Distributing Co. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Albemarle, where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir for 32 years.

Her husband, Robert Earl Swanner, died March 30, 1999.

Survivors include sons Robert Ronald Swanner and Richard Thomas Swanner, both of Albemarle; sister Sarah Cooper Skidmore, Norwood; and two grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, First Baptist Church, Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. Harold McDonald. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home of son R. Ronald Swanner, 1415 Northridge Drive.
