The funeral will be Friday for Georgia Elizabeth
Page Barrier, 81, Florence, S.C., formerly of Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Feb. 8, 2000)
at Carolina Hospital System, Florence, after a period of declining health.
Born June 5, 1918, in Salisbury, Mrs. Barrier was
a daughter of the late Daniel W. and Mary Fisher Page. Educated in the North Carolina
schools, she was a homemaker. She attended St. Luke Lutheran Church, Florence, S.C.
Her husband, Ross DeBerry Barrier, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include sons Ross David and James A.
Jimmy Barrier, both of Florence, S.C.; brother Glenn Page, Salisbury; and a
granddaughter.
Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Friday, Rowan Memorial
Park, conducted by the Rev. Mark Reed, pastor, Bethel Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home.

Nannie Solomon Barringer
The funeral will be Saturday for Nannie Solomon
Barringer, 88, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical
Center after a period of declining health.
Born May 27, 1913, in Roxboro, Mrs.. Barringer was
a daughter of the late Jeff Davis and Fannie Taylor Solomon. Educated in the Durham and
Kannapolis schools, she had retired from Rowan Cotton Mills carding department. She
was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church and the Homemakers Sunday School Class.
Her first husband, Ira Solomon, died June 14,
1968, and her second husband, Drennon Craige Barringer, died Sept. 19, 1995. A daughter,
Betty DiGaino, and a granddaughter also preceded her in death.
Survivors include brother Bill Solomon, Salisbury;
four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: Memorial, 11 a.m. Saturday, Stallings
Memorial Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mark Anders. The body will be cremated.
Visitation: None. The family will be at the home
of brother Bill Solomon of Salisbury.

James Walt Bell
James Walter WaltBell, 52, 306 Moon
River Road, died Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2000) at his home.
Born Aug. 16, 1947, in Mocksville, Mr. Bell was a
son of Addie Flint and Elvie Bell, Mocksville. A graduate of Central Davie High School,
Mocksville, he had attended Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. Self-employed, he had
previously worked at Phillip Morris, Concord. He was a former member of New Bethel Baptist
Church, Mocksville, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include
wife Rose Brown Bell, Kannapolis; son James W. Bell Jr., Salisbury; daughter Sheri Bell,
China Grove; stepson Robert Brown, Concord; stepdaughters Jacqueline Hompe and Jamie
Brown, both of Kannapolis; brothers Bobby G. Bell, Lexington, and Larry A. Bell, Roanoke,
Va.; and one grandchild.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, New Bethel Baptist
Church, Mocksville, conducted by the Rev. Thomas White. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Robert Grier Freeze
MOORESVILLE Robert Grier Freeze, 85,
Charlotte Highway, died Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Born July 18, 1914, in Rowan County, Mr. Freeze
was the son of the late William Lowrance and Mary Ina Morrow Freeze. He had retired as a
farmer and tree trimmer. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of Salisbury
Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

Paul Rufus Hancock
MOORESVILLE Paul Rufus Hancock, 78, died
Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Born April 14, 1921, in Charlotte, Mr. Hancock was
the son of the late Broad and Carrie Funderburk Hancock. He had retired from the parts
division of General Motors, Flint, Mich.
Currently a member of Mooresville Church of God,
he was an elder and a Sunday School superintendent and teacher at his church in Michigan.
Survivors include wife Mary Jo Donaldson Hancock,
whom he married July 22, 1939; sons Perry R. Hancock, Harrisburg, and Bud Hancock,
Matthews; sister Ruth Jones, Mooresville; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

God, conducted by the Rev. Kenneth R. Looney and the Rev. J.C. Souther. Burial, Carolina

Zeb Lee Joyner
KANNAPOLIS
Born Nov. 10, 1914, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Joyner
was a son of the late Fred Lee and Dora Bell Honeycutt Joyner. He had retired from Cannon
Mills. Because he hand carved walking sticks as a hobby, he was known as the walking
stick man.
His wife, Martha Talbert Joyner, died in 1994.
Survivors include daughter Peggy J. Freeze,
Salisbury; sons Henry Joyner, Palm Coast, Fla., Vance Joyner, Livingston, Texas, and Bobby
Joyner, Stanfield; sisters Annie Belle Gainey, Landis, Jessie Mae Palmer, Tobaccoville,
and Ruby Clay, Salisbury; brother Ruben Joyner, Faith; 10 grandchildren; and 13
great-grandchildren.

Elsie Greer Rice
The funeral will be Saturday for Elsie Greer Rice,
82, 2455 Briggs Road, who died Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2000) at The Laurels of Salisbury.
Born April 5, 1917, in Laurens County, S.C., Mrs.
Rice was a daughter of the late Arthur J. and Laura Madden Greer. Retired from Cannon
Mills, she owned and operated Rice Ceramics for 18 years. She was a member of First
Baptist Church and a volunteer with Rufty-Holmes Senior Center.
Her husband, John Elijah Rice, died June 3, 1988.
Survivors include sister Marie G. Morrison,
Burlington.

Mitchell Jack Wooten
MOORESVILLE
Born April 12, 1906, in Greenville County, S.C.,
Mr. Wooten was a son of the late William E. Creswell and Elmynia Bradley Wooten-Creswell.
He had retired as an insurance agent with Western Southern Life Insurance Co.
A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps
during World War II. He was a member of Fieldstone Presbyterian Church and American Legion
Post 66.
His wife, Grace Oliphant Wooten, preceded him in
death.
He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
