Ricky Astle III

CHINA GROVE — Richard Lee “Ricky” Astle III, 27, 300 Edgewood Circle, died Monday (Feb. 7, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Thomas Wilford Bible

Thomas Wilford Bible, 74, 1170 Majolica Road, Lot 2, formerly of Magnolia, Ohio, died Tuesday (Feb. 8, 2000) at his home. He had been in declining health for 15 years.

Born Jan. 6, 1926, in Coshocton, Ohio, Mr. Bible was a son of the late Harry and Sarah Jackson Bible. Educated in the Canton, Ohio, schools, he retired after 35 years from Norfolk and Western Railroad. He was a member of Sherrills Ford Baptist Church.

A son, James Allen Bible, died Dec. 3, 1965.

Survivors include wife Betty Patterson Bible, whom he married Dec. 17, 1949; son David Lee Bible, Columbus, Ohio; daughters Mrs. Harold (Carole)Ramsey, Belmont,Mrs. Garry (Chriss)Mills, Salisbury, and Mrs. Max (Donna) Persons, Louisville, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Sherrills Ford Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Harold Hughes. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Ralph Franklin Butler

MOORESVILLE — Ralph Franklin Butler, 69, 2615 Deal Road, died Monday (Feb. 7, 2000) at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born April 22, 1930, in Rowan County, Mr. Butler was a son of the late James F. and Ora Rodgers Butler. A member of Unity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, he had retired in 1993 after 20 years with Allred-Bendix Inc., Salisbury. He had earlier worked at Cannon Mills Co., Plant 1, No. 6 weave room for 20 years.

Survivors include wife Jackie Yow Butler; son Ralph F. Butler Jr., Kannapolis; daughters Linda Walter and Sandra Thompson, both of Mooresville; sister Louise Hodge, Kannapolis; and nine grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Carl Settle and the Rev. Steve Sexton. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Deal Road.

Patricia L. Cook

KANNAPOLIS — Patricia Lynn Cook, 2975 Lane St., died Monday (Feb. 7, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Harlie Lee Hamilton

ALBEMARLE —Harlie Lee Hamilton, 74, 1406 Pennington Road, died Monday (Feb. 7, 2000) at Mercy Hospital, Charlotte.

Born Nov. 8, 1925, in Stanly County, Mr. Hamilton was a son of the late Earl and Dallie Hamilton. He had been a forklift operator at Fieldcrest Cannon and had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of West Albemarle Baptist Church, Homer Tindell Sunday School Class and the Happiness Club.

Survivors include wife Marcelene Hamilton, Albemarle; daughter Vickie Coley, Albemarle; sons Harlie Eugene and Randy Allen Hamilton, both of Albemarle, and Jeffery Dean Hamilton, Surfside Beach; sister Georgia DeBerry, Hudson; brothers Leslie Hamilton, South Carolina, and Tony Hamilton, Albemarle; sister Joyce Smith, Norwood; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, West Albemarle Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rob Roberts, the Rev. Mike Dunn and the Rev. Nathan Fox. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Pennington Road.

Millard ‘Dick’ Harper

Millard Shelton “Dick” Harper, 71, 3711 Old Concord Road, died Tuesday (Feb. 8, 2000) at his home.

Paul Lindsay Michael

LEXINGTON — Paul Lindsay Michael, 79, 201 Shoaf St., died Sunday (Feb. 6, 2000) at Brian Center Nursing Care, Lexington.

Born June 12, 1920, in Davidson County, Mr. Michael was a son of the late Jacob A. and Sally Byerly Michael. He had retired from Carolina Panel Co. He attended Second Reformed United Church of Christ.

Survivors include wife Margaret Link Michael, whom he married April 12, 1947; daughter Mrs. Barry (Elizabeth) Varker, Lexington; son Paul Lindsay Michael Jr., Lexington; sisters Mrs. R.J. (Kathleen) Berrier and Bessie Lanier, both of Lexington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Timberlake Chapel, Piedmont Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Moore. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Shoaf Street.

Lillian Shibata Nakaji

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Lillian Shibata Nakaji, 83, Maisons Sur-Mer, died Saturday (Feb. 5, 2000) at Myrtle Beach Manor. She was the mother of Dr. Norman Nakaji of Cornelius, N.C., formerly of Salisbury, N.C.

Funeral services will be private.

McMillian-Small Funeral Home is in charge.

Ellen Debra Ross

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Ellen Debra Ross, 39, 2200 Lane St., who died Sunday (Feb. 6, 2000) at Rowan RegionalMedical Center, Salisbury, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Born Jan. 25, 1961, in Rowan County, Mrs. Ross was a daughter of Lillie Georgeann Cochran Ross, of the home, and Gene Curtis Ross, Kannapolis. She operated Ellen’s Cleaning Services.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include daughters Shannon Foster and Megan Mitchell, both of the home; brothers Gene, Tim and Ed Ross, all of Kannapolis; and sister Dolly Ross, Kannapolis.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Near the Cross Church, conducted by the Rev. Harry Ferguson. Burial, Sunset Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of her mother, with whom she made her home.

 

Dorothy B. Snyder

HICKORY — Dorothy Estella Berlinicke Snyder, 95, Hickory Lutheran Home,died Sunday (Feb. 6, 2000) after a brief period of declining health. She was the mother of former China Grove resident Mrs. Harvey (Susanne Snyder)Blume, now of Hickory.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lona Yates Stubbs

KANNAPOLIS —Lona Yates Stubbs, 83, 703 Sumner St., died Monday (Feb. 7, 2000) at Best of Care Rest Home.

Born Nov. 15, 1916, in Robeson County, Mrs. Stubbs was a daughter of the late Legrand and Anna Stephens Yates. She had worked for many years at Cannon Mills, Plant 1, washcloth department.

She had later retired from Zayre (now Ames) Department Store. She was a member of Royal Oaks Baptist Church.

Survivors include husband C.W. Stubbs; son Wayne Stubbs, Kannapolis; daughter Brenda Waller, Kannapolis; four grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Royal Oaks Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Leon Smith. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Sumner Street.

David Anderson Wagner

The funeral will be Wednesday for David Anderson Wagner, 34, Salisbury, who died Sunday (Feb. 6, 2000) at his home.

Born Feb. 27, 1965, in Rowan County, Mr. Wagner was a son of Jack Wagner, Mocksville. A 1983 graduate of East Rowan High School, he worked in quality control at Freightliner, Cleveland. He was a member of Shiloh United Church of Christ, Faith.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include wife Gina Peeler Wagner, whom he married June 20, 1984; daughter Brianne Wagner, of the home; and sister Jackie Seymour, Mocksville.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Shiloh United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Larry Bolick. Burial, church cemetery. Military rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.
