William McLain Brewer

STATESVILLE — William McLain Brewer, 50, 308 Safrit Road, died Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2000) at his home.

Born May 29, 1949, in Iredell County, Mr. Brewer was a son of Faye Primm Brewer Cloaninger, Mooresville, and the late Wiley Clay Brewer. He was employed in maintenance.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include stepfather Don Cloaninger; brothers Gary and Mike Brewer, both of Mooresville; and sisters Pam Brewer and Susan Talbert, both of Mooresville, and Janice Plott of Statesville.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Neill Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville, conducted by Dr. Lyn Sorrells. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Seth Ian Deal

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Saturday for Seth Ian Deal, who died at birth Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2000) at Northeast Medical Center, Concord. He was the son of Melesia Hope and Rupert Wayne Deal of China Grove.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include maternal grandparents Ronald and Judy Hone, Fairview, Tenn.; paternal grandparents Richard and Paulette Deal, China Grove; maternal great-grandparents Julins and Mary Taylor, Dickson, Tenn.; and paternal great-grandparents Arnold and Ola Schenck, Salisbury.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Saturday, Greenlawn Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Don Vess.

Visitation: None.

‘Gladys’ Trexler Fisher

ROCKWELL - Helen “Gladys” Trexler Fisher, 94, died Thursday (Feb. 3, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born April 15, 1905, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late John L. and Grace McCombs Trexler. A homemaker, she was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the Daisy Trexler Sunday School Class.

Her husband, L. Ray Fisher, died Dec. 7, 1990.

Survivors include sons Cecil R. and J. L. Kinnard Fisher, both of Salisbury; brother Glenn “Moses” Trexler, Salisbury; sisters Mavis Earnhardt and Blanche Morgan, both of Salisbury; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren

Services; 2 p.m. Saturday, St. James Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Craig Sigmon, pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Carl M. Fisher. Burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Powles Funeral Home.

Marcia Jervette Hasty

The funeral will be held Sunday for Marcia Jervette Hasty, 40, of 9625 Hinston Downs, Columbia, Md., who died Monday (Jan. 31, 2000) at University Hospital, Baltimore, Md.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church, East Spencer, conducted by the Dr. Donald C. Holness, pastor. Burial 11 am. Monday in the Salisbury U. S. National Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Fort Bragg and Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: 3 pm. Sunday at the church.

Lillian Bright LaGrone

Lillian Bright Dixon LaGrone, 103, Riverdale, N.Y., died Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2000) at the Hebrew Home for the Aged in Riverdale after several years of declining health.

Born Oct. 16, 1896, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late John William and Alice Wellman Dixon. Educated in the Cleveland County schools, she was employed by the Reiss family as a housekeeper.

Her husband, Curtis LaGrone, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

LANDIS - Hattie M. Marlow, 84, China Grove Retirement Center, China Grove, formerly of Landis, died Thursday (Feb. 3, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

KANNAPOLIS - Billy McWhorter of 2007 Carolina Ave. died Thursday (Feb. 3, 2000) at his home.

April Mills-Dodd

The funeral will be held Saturday for April Joylachell Mills-Dodd, 25, 1006 S.Fulton St., who died Sunday (Jan. 30, 2000) at her home after several months of serious illness.

Services: 4 p.m Saturday, A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel of Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Louis Turner. Burial in Antioch Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

 

Clara Goodman Scercy

CHINA GROVE — Clara Maxine Goodman Scercy, 68, 3110 Lentz Road, died Thursday (Feb. 3, 2000) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born Aug. 18, 1931, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Scercy was a daughter of the late Mollie Carter and Stafford Goodman. Educated at Winecoff School, she had retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 1, Kannapolis. She was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Clyde Scercy, died Dec. 18, 1997.

Survivors include son Robert Clyde Scercy, China Grove; daughter Phyllis Morton, Kannapolis; brother George Goodman, Rimertown; sisters Mrs. Richard (“Mick”) Atkins, Salisbury, Mrs. John (“Tootsie”) Galloway, Kannapolis, and Jinnie Vee Fesperman, Albemarle; half sister Bert Gardner, Pineville; and two grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Ebenezer Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert Howard. Burial, Unity Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home on Lentz Road.

Paul Franklin Snider

The funeral will be held Saturday for Paul Franklin Snider, 82, 320 Snider St., who died Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2000) at his home.

Born May 31, 1917, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Avery Pierce and Elizabeth Curlee Snider. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he had retired in 1964 from Southern Railway, where he was a boilermaker helper and car inspector for 14 years. He had been a member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Spencer since 1929.

Survivors include wife Evelyn Sides Snider; sons Dana G.Snider, Salisbury, and Ronald P. Snider, Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter Carol S. Cauble, Salisbury; brother A.P. Snider, Salisbury; sister Dorothy Stafford, Greenville, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Saturday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Robert T. Heard, pastor of Oakdale Baptist Church.

Visitation: None. The family will be at the home on Snider Street.

Doris Garwood Spry

MOCKSVILLE — Doris Garwood Spry, 71, Gladstone Road, died Thursday (Feb. 3, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born Dec. 29, 1928, in Davie County, Mrs. Spry was a daughter of the late Viola Josey and William F. Garwood. A homemaker, she was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.

Survivors include husband James C. Spry; sons Jim Spry, Wilmington, and Bill Spry, Cooleemee; daughters Jennifer Hobbie, Hendersonville, and Mary Martin and Rebecca Mallard, both of Mocksville; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Liberty United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Phillip W. Park. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Davie Funeral Service Chapel.

KANNAPOLIS - Donald Eugene Hatley, 72, died Wednsday (Feb. 2, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
