Leo Adolphus Brown
Leo Adolphus Brown, 81, 119 Richmond Road, died
Saturday (Dec. 30, 2000)at Rowan RegionalMedical Center after one year of
declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
Born Nov. 25, 1919, in Rowan County, Mr. Brown
was a son of the late James and Amanda Elizabeth Morgan Brown. Educated in the
Salisbury schools, he graduated from Boyden High School and Lees McRae College.
He was manager of the Advance Store for 20 years.
He also worked at Isenhour Brick & Tile Co. for 20 years and at Security
Bank for 10 years before retiring.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church,
where he served as an usher and was a member of the Fisher Cox Sunday School
Class. Mr. Brown was also a member of the Golden Opportunity Club and a former
member of the Salisbury Lions Club.
Survivors include wife Mildred Brown Brown, whom
he married Nov. 2, 1941; son Stuart Scott Brown, Atlanta; daughter Leigh B.
Shelton, Salisbury; sister Edna B. Kluttz, North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; five
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Crooked Oak Lane, died Friday (Dec. 29, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center,
Concord.
Born Dec. 10, 1928, in Jackson County, Fla., she
was a daughter of the late Nathan Alexander and Josie Hart Christmas.
Survivors include sons Ken Pitman, Kannapolis,
and Michael Pitman, Durham; daughters Wanda Scroggins, Graceful, Fla., Brenda
Mayo, Kannapolis, Ruth Kissiah and Starla Andrews, both of Charlotte, and Angela
Digilio, Glendora, Calif.; sisters Marilyn Stahliker and Sarilyn Womble, both of
Dothan, Ala.; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Born Oct. 25, 1954, in Queretaro, Mexico, Mr.
Encarnacion was a son of Felipe Encarnacion Cruz and Sara Angeles Resendiz. He
was employed at Microtel, Concord.

was a son of Wayne Fowler, Gold Hill, and Vicki Stoner Turner, Apex.

Willie Mae Bailey Jones
Willie Mae Bailey Jones, 68, 519 N. Cedar St.,
died Friday (Dec. 29, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center after three weeks of
serious illness.
Born May 12, 1932, in Iredell County, Mrs. Jones
was a daughter of the late Will and Luzell M. Bailey. A graduate of R.A. Clement
High School, Cleveland, she was a retired domestic worker. She was a former
member of Allen’s Temple Presbyterian Church, Cleveland.
Survivors include husband Robert Jones; sons
Richard Bailey, El Paso, Texas, Glen, James and Anthony Bailey, all of
Salisbury, and Robert L. Bailey, Yanceyville; daughters Mamie Walker, Severn,
Md., and Deborah G. Harrison, Salisbury; sister Wilma M. Leach, Salisbury; a
grandson reared in the home, James Bailey Jr., Salisbury; and 12 additional
grandchildren.

Viola Sparks Leonard
LEXINGTON — Viola Sparks Leonard, 94, Route 5,
died Friday (Dec. 29, 2000)at Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation.
Born May 26, 1906, in Davie County, Mrs. Leonard
was a daughter of the late Charlie Luther and Nota Parks Sparks. She was a
homemaker and a lifetime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Leonard was preceded in death by her
husband, Marvin Thomas Leonard, and an infant son.
Survivors include daughters Peggy Kepley, Annie
Weaver and Betty Weaver, all of Lexington, and Shelby Orrell, Linwood; sons
Thomas, and Max Leonard, both of Lexington; brother Luther Sparks, Advance; 14

Jake ‘Tang’ McCullough
Jake “Tang” McCullough, 67, 1305 W. Marsh
St., died Friday (Dec. 29, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born June 26, 1933, in Winnsboro, S.C., Mr.
McCullough was a son of the late Fred and Ethel Lee Lumpkins McCullough.
Educated in the Rowan County schools, he attended Dunbar High School.
A carrier for Wachovia Bank, he also ran a
janitorial service for various businesses. He had retired from the Bendix Corp.
He attended Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Bea Phillips McCullough;
brothers William McCullough, Baltimore, and David McCullough, New York City; and
sisters Sarah McCullough, New York City, Laura McCullough Harris, Salisbury, and
Maggie M.Merritt, Baltimore.

The funeral will be Tuesday for Ann Carter Rock,
Salisbury, who died Friday (Dec. 29, 2000)at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital,
Greensboro, after 10 days of illness.
Born in High Point, Mrs. Rock was the daughter of
the late Mary Johnson and John Thomas Carter. A graduate of High Point College,
she also held a degree in early childhood training from Catawba College. She
taught at Rockwell Elementary School for 26 years and was a member of St.
Luke’s Episcopal Church.

WELCOME — John William Snider, 82, Welcome,
died Friday (Dec. 29, 2000) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.
Born Oct. 1, 1918, in Welcome, Mr. Snider was a
son of the late William Henry and Olivia May Snider. A U.S. Army veteran of
World War II, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Welcome. He was a
machinist for Hanes Hosiery until retiring in 1983.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas William
Snider.
Survivors include wife Louise Rothrock Snider;
son Dennis Snider, Midway; brothers Bobby and Paul Snider, both of Lexington,

Parks Junior Adams
ROCKWELL — Parks Junior Adams, 72, Rockwell,
died Friday (Dec. 29, 2000) at his residence. He had been in declining health
for four months.
Born July 12, 1928, in Rowan County, he was the
son of the late Lee Parks and Daisy Pickler Adams. Educated in the Rowan County
schools, he was the owner of Adams Body Shop for 30 years before he retired in
1981. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Son Kenneth Wayne Adams died in 1992 and daughter
Brenda Faye Cranfield died in 1994.
Survivors include wife Nellie Ruth Shore Adams;
sons Jimmy Adams, Rockwell, and Ronnie Adams, Faith; daughters Lynda Cranfield
and Susie Shinn, both of Faith, Barbara Hall, Carol Gobble and Joyce Lovingood,
all of Rockwell, and Betty Crowell, Salisbury; brother, Billy Ray Adams,
Rockwell; 22 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
