Louise Bumgarner Beck
MOCKSVILLE —Louise Bumgarner Beck, 87, W. Church St., died Wednesday (Dec. 27, 2000)at Yadkin Heritage Extended Care Facility, Yadkinville.
Born March 19, 1913, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Beck was a daughter of the late James Osmond and Florence Sweet Bumgarner. A graduate of Appalachian State University, she retired in 1975 as a public teacher. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mocksville.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Haywood Powell, second husband Wilburn McDaniel, and third husband Robert E. Beck.
Survivors include son Hilary Powell, Salisbury; daughter Phyllis Shore, Boonville; brother Earl Bumgarner, Harmony; sister Doris Shinn, Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services:11 a.m. Saturday, First Baptist Church of Mocksville, conducted by the Rev. Paul Riggs. Burial, Center United Methodist Church, Mocksville. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m.

Harold Wayne Corl
ROCKWELL — Harold Wayne Corl,64, of Rockwell, died Friday (Dec. 29, 2000) at Brian Center Nursing and Rehabilitation, Salisbury.
Born April 16, 1936, in Rowan County, Mr. Corl was a son of the late Ed Morris and Pearl Reed Corl. Educated in Rowan County schools, he was retired from Cannon Mills Plant 1. A veteran of U.S. Marine Corps, he served in the Korean War and was a member of Rockwell Amvets and Rockwell VFW Post. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rockwell.
Survivors include son Michael Corl, Carolina Beach; brother John “Bud” Corl, Salisbury; sisters Evelyn Iannine, Pottstown, Pa., Helen Lindsey, Kannapolis, and Linda Watson, Davidson.
Services:Graveside, 2 p.m. Saturday, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Benny L. Vickrey, pastor, First Baptist Church of Rockwell. Military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Council.

Ruth Huffman Fisher
GRANITE QUARRY — Ruth Huffman Fisher, 92, of Granite Quarry, died Friday (Dec. 29, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Nov. 11, 1908, in Rowan County, Mrs. Fisher was a daughter of the late Samuel and Pearl Holshouser Huffman. Educated in Rowan County schools, she was a homemaker and a member of Ursinus United Church of Christ, Rockwell.
Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by her husband, Wade W. Fisher.
Survivors include son Wade W. Fisher Jr., Salisbury; daughter Pearl F. Lieurance, Rutherfordton; sister Ethel H. Hall, Conway, S.C.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services:Graveside, 11 a.m. Saturday, Ursinus United Church of Christ Cemetery, Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. Jim Staunton, pastor.

Mary Ellen Click Myers
Mary Ellen Click Myers, 77, of Salisbury, at Thursday (Dec. 28, 2000) at her residence, after four years of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
Born Aug. 30, 1923, in Rowan County, Mrs. Myers was a daughter of the late Ed and Alma Kluttz Click. Educated in Woodleaf schools and a graduate of Woodleaf High school, she was employed for Erwin Cotton Mill, Cooleemee, and the draft board, Salisbury, and was bookkeeper for Myers Produce for 30 years before retiring. She was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include Jimmy Howard Myers, whom she married Dec. 14, 1944; sons John Howard Myers and Charles Anderson “Andy” Myers, both of Salisbury; daughter Jenny Myers Earnhardt, Salisbury; sister Elizabeth C. Mills, Taylor, S.C.; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services:Graveside, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Unity Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Memorial, 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, conducted by the Rev. Clyde Spears Alexander Jr., the Rev. Malcolm Bullock and the Rev. Sam Hickerson.

Blaine Julian ‘Pepsi’ Polk
KANNAPOLIS — Blaine Julian “Pepsi” Polk, 87, formerly of 1202 Brantley Road, died Wednesday (Dec. 27, 2000)at Transitional Health Services.
Born Dec. 31, 1912, in Union County, Mr. Polk was a son of the late Fred M. and Nona Pigg Polk. He was a member of Jackson Park Baptist Church, where he was a former member of the choir.
Mr. Polk retired in 1981 after 45 years with Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1, cutting room and garage maintenance departments.
His wife, Edna Black Polk, died Feb. 24, 1998.
Survivors include son B. Julian Polk Jr., Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter Evelyn Polk Thompson, Mooresville; sister Audrey Pennell, Kannapolis; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS — Margaret Overcash Tucker, 77, of Kannapolis, died Thursday (Dec. 28, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after two-and-a-half weeks of serious illness.

Rupert A. Turner
LEXINGTON —Rupert Arthur Turner, 86, 25 Edna St., died Saturday (Dec. 23, 2000)at Lexington Memorial Hospital, after seven months of illness.
Born April 13, 1914, in Brown Hall, St. Catherine, Jamaica, Mr. Turner was a son of the late James and Rebecca Cole Turner. He was a tailor and a retired textile worker in Jamaica, New York City and Florida.
He was a member of United Holy Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Southside Senior Citizens Club, and a graduate of Jones School of Religion.
Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife Clara Bell Owens Turner.
Survivors include son Courtney Turner, Miami, Fla.; daughters Irma Hinds, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Claudette Kamara, Lexington; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Florida United Holy Church, conducted by the Rev. Fred T. Jones. Burial, New Jersey AME Zion Church Cemetery.

Ollie Mae Winburn
KANNAPOLIS — Ollie Mae Anderson Winburn, 70, 5775 Wright Road, died Thursday (Dec. 28, 2000)at St. Joseph Mission Hospital, Asheville.
Born June 30, 1930, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mrs. Winburn was a daughter of the late Claude Anderson and Pauline Hall Gainey. She worked at Linn-Corriher Mills.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ollie Lee Winburn.
Survivors include son Lonnie Claude Winburn, Kannapolis; stepson Jimmy P. Winburn, Kannapolis; brother Jimmy Gainey, Kannapolis; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
