Kathy White, a Salisbury native operating a computer business in Maryland, recently had dinner in the White House with President Clinton and his wife, Hillary.
White, 38, is president and CEO of CompuChoice, a Lanham, Md.-based company that provides information-technology services and products.
Her company has several contracts with the government, which resulted in the dinner invitation.
White, the daughter of Charles and Mary White of Salisbury, first met Hillary Clinton at fund-raisers for her U.S. Senate campaign.
“She is an awesome lady, so down to earth, so humble and very concerned about people,” White said.
White said she believes Hillary Clinton told her husband about White because the invitation for the dinner in October at the White House came soon after the fund-raising meeting.
About 15 people attended the dinner; the ones White met also owned their own businesses.
The president told the group about the economy and what he had been doing in the world. “He talked about what he planned to do when he left office” and also had time to talk to each person at the dinner.
White said the Clintons are very different from the public image painted by the media and their critics.
White’s parents live at 120 Hope Hill Road in Salisbury. She has six sisters and a brother and graduated from Salisbury High School in 1980, where she played basketball and softball and ran track.
Kathy White graduated in December 1986 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in business administration.
Before starting CompuChoice in 1991, White worked for IBM in Bethesda, Md., where she managed various government accounts.
White now employs three technicians and two other workers in her office.
“CompuChoice takes pride in delivering the highest quality IT solutions to our customers with a clear focus on complete customer satisfaction,” White said. “… A major part of our growth and success can be directly attributed to the Lord Jesus, who is first in my life, and secondly, the retaining of a very high percentage of both our employees and clients.”
