Allen Belton
Allen Belton, 78, 1300 Short St., died Thursday
(Dec. 21, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, after several years of
declining health and one month of serious illness.
Born June 21, 1922, in Ridgeway, S.C., Mr. Belton
was a son of the late Harrison and Mamie Belton. Educated in Ridgway, S.C.,
public schools, Mr. Belton retired from Taylor Clay Brickyard. Mr. Belton was a
member of Refuge Church of God in Christ, and assisted in the building. He was
active in the church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
His wife, Sadie Bell Squirewell Belton, died
March 4, 1990.
Survivors include son Robert Allen Belton,
Reidsville; daughters Daisy Robbins and Maggie Geter, both of Salisbury, Sadie
Curry, Kannapolis, Geraldine Henryland, Centerville, Va., and Patricia Toler,
China Grove; brothers Haskel and Henry Belton, both of Ridgeway, S.C., Herbert
Belton, Baltimore, Md., and Dobson Belton, Salisbury; sisters Josphine Ingram,
High Point, Bernice Cook, Alexandria, Va., Leathea Whitaker, and Maria
Henderson, both of Ridgeway, S.C.; and granddaughter Felissa “Maxine”
Robbins, who was reared in the home; 12 other grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren

Woodrow Caldwell
Woodrow Caldwell, 64, formerly of 1 Carolina St.,
died Sunday (Dec. 17, 2000) at Spencer Nursing Center.
Born March 18, 1936, in Rowan County, Mr.
Caldwell was a son of Mary Ree Ferrens Caldwell, East Spencer, and the late
Robert Ray Caldwell. Educated in Rowan County schools, he had been employed by
Cone Mills. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Bear Poplar.
Survivors include foster daughter Vonda Hoover,
East Spencer; stepdaughter Shelia Cowan, Spencer; three grandchildren; and two
step-great-grandchildren.

Church, Bear Poplar, conducted by the Rev. Roger Williamson, pastor, and the
Rev. Calvin Miller. Burial, church cemetery.

Fannie G. Thompson
LEXINGTON —Fannie Greene Thompson, 79,
Woodhaven Drive, died Friday (Dec. 22, 2000)at Brian Center Nursing Home.
Born May 20, 1921, in Davidson County, she was a
daughter of the late L.E. “Bud” and Etta Lambe Greene. She retired from
Davidson County Clerk of Courts Office and was World War II veteran serving as a
WAC. She was a member of Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include husband Ray J. Thompson; son
Lindsay Ray Thompson, Lexington; daughter Rita Salter, Locust Fork, Ala.; half
sister Jimmie Lou Earnhart, Granite Quarry; six grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.

ADVANCE — Hazel McDaniel Gobble, 93, Advance,
died Wednesday (Dec. 20, 2000) at Elms at Tanglewood, Clemmons.
Born June 13, 1907, in Rowan County, she was a
daughter of the late G.B. and Ivy Cornatzer McDaniel. She was a homemaker and a
member of Episcopal Church of Ascension.
Survivors include husband Harvey Gobble; son
Jerry Gobble, Kansas; brother Bobby McDaniel, Mocksville; and one grandson.

KANNAPOLIS — Agnes Rainey McLeod, 79, 405 Helen
St., died Wednesday (Dec. 20, 2000) at her residence.
Born Jan. 31, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs. McLeod
was a daughter of the late Laura Rebecca Deal and Allen Howard Rainey. She
retired from Cannon Mills Co. set department after 42 years with the company.
She was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include husband of 59 years Ralph R.
McLeod; daughters Rebecca Fisher, Vienna, Va., and Cathy Linn, Tega Cay, S.C.;
son Kevin McLeod, Charlotte; brothers Robert and Ben Rainey, both of Kannapolis;

Hallie Beaver Morris, 84, Salisbury, died

declining health.
Born Jan. 3, 1916, in Rowan County, Mrs. Morris
was a daughter of the late Erastus Obediah “Obe” and Cora Leazer Beaver.
Educated in Rowan County schools, Mrs. Morris retired from Cannon Mills plant
No. 7 after 30 years with the company. She was a homemaker and a member of
Trinity Wesleyan Church.
Her husband, Ernest Clyde Morris, died Aug. 16,
1976.
Survivors include son Jerry R. Morris,
Kannapolis; brother W. Howard Beaver, Salisbury; one grandchild; and three
great-grandchildren.

ALBEMARLE — Grace Beatrice Lucas Thompson, 87,
33426 Old Salisbury Road, died Wednesday (Dec. 20, 2000) at Britthaven of
Piedmont.
Born Nov. 29, 1913, in Albemarle, she was a
daughter of the late John Martin and Cordelia Camilla Harris Lucas. She was a
cafeteria worker for the Albemarle City school system at North Albemarle
Elementary. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, and attended the
Albemarle City schools.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper
Colon “Jack”Thompson.
Survivors include sons Jimmy A. Thompson,
Richfield, and Ronald C. Thompson, New London; sister Ruby Mellton, Albemarle;
three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
