Coy Isaiah Crowe
MOCKSVILLE — The Rev. Coy Isaiah Crowe, 96, of
Howard Street, formerly of Roseland Street, Greensboro, died Sunday (Dec. 17,
2000)at Autumn Care of Mocksville.
Born Oct. 8, 1904, in Madison County, Rev. Crowe
was a son of the late John Patton and Tishie Graham Crowe. He was a retired
pastor with Evangelical Methodist Church, pastorates including Danielsville,
Ga., Glen Alpine, Old Richmond EMC, Portland, Ind., Keysville, Va., and High
Point.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Lou
Evans Crowe, and seven children.
Survivors include wife Margaret Auton Crowe,
Greensboro; sons Mark Crowe, Royston, Ga., and Phil Crowe, Mocksville; sister
Iva James, Concord; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three
great-great-grandchildren.

Howard Luther Dick
Howard Luther Dick, 68, of Salisbury, died Sunday
(Dec. 17, 2000)at his residence, after a period of declining health.
Born Jan. 7, 1932, in Garfield, Okla., Mr. Dick
was a son of the late Henry Isaac and Mary Elizabeth Merritt Dick. Educated in
Enid, Okla. schools, he had been employed by Parrish Bakery and Isenhour Brick
and Tile, and later retired from Papco Asphalt, where he was a long-haul truck
driver. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of Korea. Mr. Dick was a Baptist and
a member of Samuel C. Hart Legion Post 14 and the Spencer Moose Lodge.
Mr. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce
Juanita Anderson Dick, who died May 17, 1999.
Survivors include stepson Rick Kinter, Salisbury;
stepdaughters Joyce Lewis, Laurinburg, and Bonnie Smith, Salisbury; brother
James Dick, Whitaker, Kansas; six stepgrandchildren; and six
step-great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 10 a.m. Wednesday, Salisbury
National Cemetery, Military Avenue Site, conducted by the VA chaplain. Military
rites by the Rowan County Veteran’s Council.

Robert ‘Bob’ Earnhardt
Robert Eugene “Bob” Earnhardt, 64, 312 Ackert
Ave., died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000) at his residence.
Born Aug. 28, 1936, in Rowan County, Mr.
Earnhardt, was son of Daisy Stauber Earnhardt, Salisbury, and the late Morris
Eugene Earnhardt. Educated in Spencer, Granite Quarry, and Salisbury city
schools, he was a graduate from Boyden High School and Catawba College. He was a
U.S. Army veteran, serving for 19 years, and later was employed for Gamewell
Mechanical Co., and the City of Salisbury. Mr. Earnhardt was a member of Rowan
Singles Club.
Survivors include sons Larry Jerome Earnhardt,
Salisbury, and Clark Stephen Earnhardt, Anderson, S.C.; daughter Patricia
Earnhardt Smith, Salisbury; brothers Charles “Bill” Earnhardt, Salisbury,
and Jerry Earnhardt, Rockwell; sisters Shirley E. Lanning and Judy E. Loman,
both of Salisbury; and six grandchildren.

National Cemetery, Statesville Blvd. location, conducted by the Rev. Joel Hiatt,

STATESVILLE — Rachel Thompson Goodman, 62, 3547
Taylorsville Highway, died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000)at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 2, 1938, in Iredell County, Mrs.
Goodman was a daughter of Carrie Nance Thompson Miller, Statesville, and the
late Nick Walter Thompson. She was a retired textile worker and a member of
Eufola Baptist Church.
Mrs. Goodman was preceded in death by her first
husband, Draper Leon Fox, and a daughter, Rachel Leona Fox.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include
husband Johnny Goodman, Statesville; stepfather Cecil Miller, Aiken, S.C.; sons
Rickey Walter Fox, Cleveland, Jack Lamar Whitaker, Albemarle, and Bryant Keith
Whitaker, Mocksville; daughters Joy Fox Barnette, Cleveland, and Renee Whitaker
Bailey, Fork; brothers Thomas Nick Thompson, Blythewood, S.C., and Jim Thompson,
Stony Point; sisters Mary Seitenfaden and Kathy Faust, both of Statesville; 14
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

LEXINGTON —Lizzie Coat Bennett Hamrick, 77, 120
Dew West Court, died Friday (Dec. 15, 2000) in Sunbridge Care &Health
Rehabilitation.
Born Dec. 15, 1923, in Lincolnton, Ga., she was a
daughter of the late Claude and Annie Lampton Bennett. She was a retired
employee of Young-Binkle Furniture and Davidson Funeral Home of Lexington. She
was a member of Union Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons Claude Bennett and John
Ernest Medley, both of Lexington; daughter Lizzie Carol Sykes, Lexington; sister
Flore Hogan, Lincolnton, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two

Roy Junior Hill
Roy Junior Hill, 80, 217 S. Clay St., died Friday
(Dec. 15, 2000)at his residence.
Born April 27, 1920, in Lincoln County, Mr. Hill
was a son of the late Roy and Emma Ross Hill. Educated in Lincoln County
schools, he was employed with Southern Railway, and was a U.S. Army veteran of
World War II.
Survivors include son Herman Hill, Cincinnati,
Ohio; brother Jake Hill, East Spencer; sisters Essie Foster, Orange Station,
Bessie Nixon, Denver, Willie Mae Hunter, Lincolnton, Alice Jones, Silver
Springs, Md., Frances Huff, Temple Hill, Md., and Margie Jackson, Camp Springs,
Md.; and three grandchildren.

MOORESVILLE —Enell McAllister Johnson, of Mount
Ulla Highway, formerly of Mount Mourne, died Sunday (Dec. 17, 2000)at Wake
Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born April 26, 1929, in Candler County, Ga., Mrs.
Johnson was a daughter of the late James Harvey and Rena Bryant McAllister. She
was a retired vendor for Draymore Manufacturing, Mooresville, and was a member
of Community Baptist Church, Mount Mourne.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her
husband, Henry Cecil Johnson, and a son, Bobby Lewis Johnson.
Survivors include son Kenneth C. Johnson,
Mooresville; daughters Betty J. Allen and Karen J. Philemon, both of
Mooresville, and Faye Johnson, Mount Mourne; brothers Bill McAllister, Celina,
Tenn., and Jimmy McAllister, Warner Robbins, Ga.; sister Hazel Robbins,

Frank D. Tucker
LEXINGTON —Frank D. Tucker, 67, 1202 White St.,
died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000)at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 13, 1933, in Moore County, Tenn., Mr.
Tucker was a son of the late Ernest and Annie Sisk Tucker. He had lived in
Davidson County for 22 years and was a retired employee of Carolina Tire of
Lexington. After he retired, he was employed with Forest Hill Memorial Park as
pre-need sales counselor.
Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by a son, Robert
Wayne Tucker.
Survivors include wife Frances McKinney Tucker,
of the home; daughter Lori Tucker Tollie, Lexington; sons James Ronald and
Charles Lynn Tucker, both of Shelbyville, Tenn., and John Franklin Tucker,
Lexington; sisters Maggie Miller and Mattie Shockley, both of Tullahoma, Tenn.
and Laura Preston, Lynchburg, Tenn.; brother Howard Clay Tucker, Tullahoma,
Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

John Henry ‘Red’ Eagle
The funeral will be Wednesday for John Henry
“Red” Eagle, 76, of Salisbury, who died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000)at Rowan
Regional Medical Center, after one year of declining health and seven weeks of
serious illness.
A well-known semi-professional baseball player
here for many years, he played in the strong semi-professional Yadkin Valley
Baseball League and was still batting .433 in the mid-70s. Made up of good high
school, college and semi-pro players, the league was at the height of its
popularity in this area from the ’40s through the ’60s. He was with the
Ellis Crossroads team.
Born April 28, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Eagle
was a son of the late Floyd Preston and Ina Fesperman Eagle. Educated in Rowan
County schools, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was
a machinist for Southern Railways for 18 years and was owner and operator of
Franklin Sunoco for 12 years, before retiring in 1980 due to his health.
He also considered breeding and “messing
around” with horses a major hobby.
Mr. Eagle was a member of Community Baptist
Church, the Men’s Sunday School Class, served as a deacon for 21 years and was
a member of the choir. He sang in the quartet and was a member of the
Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFW Post No. 3006.
His wife, Frances Coughenour Eagle, died on March
31, 1998.
Survivors include one son, “Buck” Eagle of
Salisbury; daughters Carolyn E. Kesler and Mary “Sis” Carriker, both of
Salisbury; brothers Everett T. Eagle, Greenville, S.C., and Donald G. Eagle,
Spencer; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Community Baptist
Church, conducted by the Rev. Larry Linker, the Rev. Christopher O’Guin,
pastor, and the Rev. Carl Kincaid. The body will be placed in the church 30
minutes before the service. Burial, U.S. National Cemetery, Government Road
location, with military graveside rites by the Rowan County Veterans Council.
