John Henry ‘Red’ Eagle

John Henry “Red”Eagle, 76, Salisbury, died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Lena G. Curran

KANNAPOLIS — Lena Grissom Curran, formerly of Kannapolis, died Sunday (Dec. 17, 2000) at Croasdaile Village, Durham, after eight years of declining health.

Born in Guilford County, Mrs. Curran was a daughter of the late Cicero Franklin and Mary Hayworth Grissom. A graduate of High Point Andrews High School, she attended Guilford College.

She was a career secretary with Whitley’s Funeral Home, often playing the role of comforter and adviser to families. She ran a catering business for weddings and special events and had catered for such celebrities as Gov. James B. Hunt and popular entertainer Anita Bryant. A member of Trinity United Methodist Church, she was active on committees and in the Turtle Bible Class, often serving in leadership roles. She was honored by the United Methodist Women, with a life membership to the Western North Carolina Conference. Her civic contributions included leadership positions in the Kannapolis Credit Women’s International Club, the Kannapolis Women’s Club and the Kannapolis Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Hampton Curran, and son, Wade H. Curran Jr.

Survivors include sister Ann Hubbard, Charlotte; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Don Shuman, Trinity United Methodist Church.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Roy Hoke Drye

ROCKWELL — Roy Hoke Drye, 79, of Rockwell, died Saturday (Dec. 16, 2000) at his residence.

Born Nov. 23, 1921, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Drye was a son of the late Fannie Mae Beaver and Robert “Rob” Hoke Drye. Educated at the Old Fisher School, he was retired from China Grove Cotton Mill and was a member of West Baptist Church.

Mr. Drye was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Swinson Drye, who died Oct. 13, 1995, son Jimmy Drye, who died in 1945, and daughter Shirley June Payne, who died in 1983.

Survivors include sons Pete, Douglas and Ronnie Drye, all of Rockwell, Hoy and Rob Drye, both of Salisbury, and Robbie Lee Drye, Gold Hill; daughters Linda Drye Swink and Beatrice Drye Raymer, both of Salisbury, and Jo Anne Drye Queen, Concord; brother Bobby Rae Drye, Rockwell; sisters Mildred Misenheimer, Sadie Roseman and Dorothy Swinson, all of Rockwell; 16 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, West Park Baptist Church, Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. Charles Carver, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation: None.

Foy Carlton Easter

CHURCHLAND — Foy Carlton Easter, 79, formerly of Churchland, died Sunday (Dec. 17, 2000) at Genesis ElderCare, Salisbury, after a period of declining health.

Born July 6, 1921, in Davidson County, Mr. Easter was a son of the late Jesse Lee Easter and Marie Lanning Easter Poag. Educated in Davidson County schools, he was retired from the North Carolina Finishing Co., after 47 years with the company. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Tyro, and a member of the Spencer Moose Lodge.

Survivors include wife Jeannette Talley Easter, of the home; sons Ronald Carlton Easter, Lexington, and Gary Lynn Easter, Linwood; daughter Linda Easter Miller, Lexington; brother James Gordon Easter, Linwood; and six grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Lyerly Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Claude Kayler and the Rev. Dr. Alan Rice. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, at the funeral home.

SPENCER —James Fletcher, 87, formerly of 1404 S. Salisbury Ave., died Saturday (Dec. 16, 2000)at Spencer Nursing Center.

Fred Gordon Jr.

The funeral will be Tuesday for Fred “Hickey” Gordon Jr., 71, of Genesis ElderCare, died Thursday (Dec. 14, 2000) at Rowan RegionalMedical Center.

Services:3 p.m. Tuesday, Gethsemane Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. James Stowe, pastor. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the church.

Lawrence G. Lambert

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Lawrence G. Lambert, 63, formerly of Salisbury, N.C., died Saturday (Dec. 16, 2000) at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born May 8, 1937, in Iredell County, N.C., Mr. Lambert was a son of the late Floyd G. and Annie Riddle Lambert. Educated in Rowan County schools, he was retired from Flura Daniels Construction Company, Greenville, S.C., and earlier in Salisbury. He was a Lutheran.

Survivors include wife Helen Thompson Lambert, of the home, whom he married Sept. 7, 1957; daughter Laura Gallimore, Spartanburg; brothers Russell Lambert, Salisbury, Junior Lambert, Lexington, N.C., and Eddie Lambert, Texas.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Lyerly Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Tom Roberts. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, at the funeral home.

 

Jettie Sehorn

LANDIS — Jettie Honeycutt Sehorn, 45, a resident of Brightmoor Nursing Center, Salisbury, and formerly of 507 S. Beaver St., died Sunday (Dec. 17, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after four-and a-half years of declining health, and one week of serious illness.

Born June 25, 1955, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Sehorn was a daughter of Lewis Honeycutt, West Jefferson, and Evelyn Stegall, Landis. She was formerly employed with H&R Block Tax Services, Kannapolis, for 25 years, and was a member of Landis Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include daughter Michelle Williams, Concord; sons Roger Booth, Kannapolis, and Kevin Carpenter, Concord; sister Colette Abernathy, Landis; brothers Darrell Honeycutt, Albemarle, and Scott Honeycutt, Landis; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Landis Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Billy A. Honeycutt Jr. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the home of Colette Abernathy, 600 West Ryder Ave., Landis.

Georgiana Davis Thompson

Georgiana Davis Thompson, 80, Salisbury, died Friday (Dec. 15, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born March 8, 1920, in Rowan County, Mrs. Thompson was a daughter of the late Arthur David and Georgiana Haire Davis. A graduate of Cleveland High School, she was a homemaker. She was of the Lutheran faith.

Her husband, Robert Eugene Thompson, died Aug. 30, 1983.

Survivors include son Robert Kent Thompson, Charlotte; daughters Judy Cobb, Faith, and Deanna Williams, Salisbury; brother David Davis, Mocksville; sisters Beulah Davis, Millbridge, and Agnes Roudabush, Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside services were held Dec. 17, City Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Keith Copeland, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church.

Visitation: The family will be at the home of Judy Cobb, 3021 Cemetery Drive.

Ruby Opal Tyndall

CLINTON — Ruby Opal Tyndall, 74, 628 H.B. Lewis Road, died Sunday (Dec. 17, 2000)at Sampson Regional Medical Center.

Born in 1926 in Wake County, Mrs. Tyndall was a daughter of the late Isaac Obediah and Reba Jarvis Almond. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a retired bookkeeper with the North Carolina Justice Academy.

Survivors include husband Robert I. Tyndall; daughters Deborah Cashwell, New Bern, and Patricia Goodwin, Indianapolis, Ind.; sons James H. Goodwin Jr., Salisbury, Paul Goodwin, Boone, and Philip Goodwin, Salemburg; step-daughter Denise Workinger, Newport News, Va.; stepson Jim Tyndall, Wilmington; brother James A. Almond, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services:2 p.m. Tuesday, Royal-Hall Funeral Home, Clinton, conducted by the Rev. Edward Tatum, the Rev. Jimmie Swinson and the Rev. Clyde Shelton. Burial, Plain View Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, at the funeral home.

 

Hollis E. Wilson

LEXINGTON —Hollis E. Wilson, 78, of Churchland, died Saturday (Dec. 16, 2000) at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

Mr. Wilson was a member of the Churchland Lions Club and the VFW Post 3074; was a U.S. Navy veteran; and was a former member of the Churchland Fire Department.

Survivors include wife Frances P. Wilson; daughter Kaye W. Mischler, Churchland; sons Richard H. Wilson, San Diego, Calif., and Walter L. Wilson, Tyro; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services:Memorial, 2 p.m. today, Churchland Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church following a private graveside service.

Cremation Services, Inc., Winston-Salem, is in charge.

SPENCER — Woodrow Caldwell, 64, 307 S. Spencer Ave., died Sunday (Dec. 17, 2000) at Spencer Health Care, following an extended illness.
