CHINA GROVE — Roy Leonard Arthurs, 89, 208 Ross
St., died Monday (Dec. 11, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 18, 1911, in Iredell County, Mr.
Arthurs was a son of the late Martin Comer and Cordie Bell Beaver Arthurs.
Educated in Iredell County schools, he retired from Cannon Mills, where he was a
foreman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of American
Legion Post 185, China Grove. Mr. Arthurs was a member of First United Methodist
Church, China Grove.
Survivors include wife Mildred Deal Arthurs,
China Grove; daughters Jean A. McCluney and Phyllis Heilig, both of China Grove;
brother Robert Comer Arthurs, Kannapolis; sisters Annie Lois Owens, Salisbury,
and Violet Morris, Kannapolis; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

TAYLORSVILLE — Edith Annalou Bentley Davidson,
84, of Taylorsville, died Sunday (Dec. 10, 2000) at Davis Medical Center,
Statesville.
Born May 21, 1916, in Alexander County, Mrs.
Davidson was a daughter of the late Augustus Ulysses and Ada Norlene Smith
Bentley. Her brothers, Chall, Howard and Edgar Bentley, all lived in Salisbury.

Martha Irene Eudy Drye
OAKBORO — Martha Irene Eudy Drye, 65, 15272
Stoney Run Village, died Sunday (Dec. 10, 2000)at her residence.
Born Nov. 22, 1935, in Stanly County, Mrs. Drye
was a daughter of the late Willis Jackson and Elda Mae Burris Eudy. She was
retired from Stanly Knitting Mills, where she was a sewer.
Mrs. Drye was preceded in death by her husband,
Kenneth Herman Drye.
Survivors include sons Kenneth Douglas and
Michael Edward Drye, both of Oakboro; daughters Lisa Drye Kimrey, and Lori Drye
Mauldin, both of Oakboro; brother Travis Eudy, Concord; sister Laura Mae Petrea,

Lucile Reynolds Eagle
MISENHEIMER — Lucile Reynolds Eagle, of
Misenheimer, died Monday (Dec. 11, 2000)at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1908, she was a daughter of the
late Riley Reynolds and Agnes Peeler Johnson. For the last six months she had
lived at Spring Arbor, Albemarle. She graduated from Mitchell Home, now Pfeiffer
University, and attended Catawba College. She taught at Pond School in Rowan
County and worked 31 years at the Misenheimer Post Office. She was a lifetime
member and the oldest member at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a
teacher and pianist.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Paul
T. Eagle; daughter Peggy Eagle Rogers, Albemarle; brother James D. Johnson, Jr.,
Albemarle; sisters Ruby J. Leonard, Lexington, and Margaret J. Newport, New
London; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.

CHINA GROVE — Lucy Virginia Wilson Ennis, 83,
of China Grove, died Monday (Dec. 11, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 20, 1917, in Rowan County, Mrs. Ennis
was a daughter of the late Jasper Moore and Bessie Ann Sapp Wilson. Educated in
Rowan County schools, she retired from Salem College, where she was an executive
housekeeper. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Adult Sunday
School Class, Mattie Eller Circle, and Young at Heart Group.
Survivors include sons Eric Ennis, China Grove,
and Tommy Ennis, Florence, S.C.; sisters Margaret Thomas, Herndon, Va., and
Elsie Wilson Graham, Mount Ulla; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;
two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

MOORESVILLE — Nancy Mitchell John, 60, 126
Brookridge Lane, died Saturday (Dec. 9, 2000).
Born Nov. 15, 1940, in New Brighton, Pa., Mrs.
John was a daughter of the late Frances and Effie Wynn Mitchell. She was a
teacher for J-Bear Child Development Center.

John Milton Murph
CONCORD —John Milton Murph, 94, 2501 Lyla Ave.,
died Sunday (Dec. 10, 2000) at the home of son, B.F. “Bud” Murph, whom he
had lived with for the last three months, after three years of declining health
and one year of serious illness.
Born July 12, 1906, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Murph
was a son of the late Filmore and Bettie Moore Murph. He attended Patterson
School and Winecoff School. He retired in 1971 from the research and development
department of Cannon Mills and was also a farmer. He was a member of Royal Oaks
Baptist Church for 60 years and held offices in Boy Scouts, taught Sunday school
, sang in the choir and was a soloist at different churches and nursing homes.
Mr. Murph was preceded in death by his wife of 56
years, Margaret Elizabeth Daves Murph, who died in 1982, a son, Charles K. Murph,
who died in 1960, daughters Betty Murph Evans, who died in 1978, and Billie
Murph Stephenson, who died in 1996.
Survivors include son Broadus F. “Bud” Murph,
Kannapolis; brother Everette Murph, Kannapolis; eight grandchildren; and 20
great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS — Ruby Carter Oldham, 89, formerly
of Kannapolis, died Monday (Dec. 11, 2000) at Five Oaks Nursing Center, Concord,
after 10 years of declining health and one month of serious illness.
Born May 5, 1911, in Stanly County, Mrs. Oldham
was a daughter of the late Jerome and Carrie Teeter Carter. She was a homemaker
and a lifetime resident of the area.
Survivors include son John Burris, California;
and two grandchildren.

Eva Pauline Potts
MOCKSVILLE —Eva Pauline Potts, 90, of Homer
Potts Road, died Monday (Dec. 11, 2000) at her residence, after several months
of declining health.
Born May 18, 1910, in Davie County, Miss Potts
was a daughter of the late Luther and O’Telia Carter Potts. She had been
employed with Erwin Mills in Cooleemee for 45 years and later with the Home
Health Agency for 13 years. She was the oldest living member of Cornatzer
Baptist Church, where she sang in the church choir and was a member of the Bible
class.

Mocksville; sisters Mae Laird, Mocksville, and Lena Wall, Advance.

Wright Monroe Ritchie, 79, of Salisbury, died
Sunday (Dec. 10, 2000)at Wake Forest University Medical Center, after a period
of declining health.
Born Sept. 8, 1921, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Ritchie was a son of the late Jesse David and Maggie Ketner Ritchie. Educated in
Cabarrus County schools, Mr. Ritchie was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and
retired foreman with Proctor Chemical Co. He was a member of New Hope Baptist
Church.
Mr. Ritchie was preceded in death by his wife,
Edna Hinson Ritchie, who died June 16, 1998.
Survivors include sons Charles Ritchie,
Fayetteville, and Van Allen Ritchie, Salisbury; daughters Lori Brault,
Wilmington, and Ann Collins, Salisbury; brothers Claude, Luther, Foy and Cecil

ALBEMARLE — Pearl Talbert Rummage, 82, 37256

Born May 31, 1918, in Stanly County, Mrs. Rummage
was a daughter of the late Charles Allen and Sarah Jane Mason Talbert. She was
retired from Allison Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Union Grove Baptist
Church.
Mrs. Rummage was preceded in death by her
husband, Grady L. Rummage, who died Aug. 16, 1988, and a daughter, Delilah Jane
Rummage.

LONG BEACH — Billy Eugene Starnes, 67, 3224 E.
Dolphin Drive, died Saturday (Dec. 9, 2000)at his home, after several weeks of
declining health.
Born Aug. 9, 1933, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Starnes was a son of the late William Correll and Ollie Montgomery Starnes. He
retired in 1991 from AT&T, Charlotte, and moved to Long Beach from
Kannapolis. He was a member of Midway United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, and
was active in the Moose Lodge in the Southport area, where he was past governor
and treasurer. He was also active in the Elks Lodge, where he was past
treasurer.
Survivors include wife Gladys Grass Starnes; sons
Scott Starnes, Salisbury, Greg Starnes, Concord, and Todd Starnes, Kannapolis;
sisters Flowe Goodman, Salisbury, and Selma Wilhelm, Kannapolis; and eight
grandchildren.

Vanderburg was a daughter of the late William Clyde and Lula Opelia Camp
Wilkinson. She was a homemaker and a member of Poplin Grove Baptist Church.

LEXINGTON — Eugene V. Weaver, 86, of Fairview
Drive, died Sunday (Dec. 10, 2000) at Lexington Memorial Hospital, after four
months of serious illness.
Born Jan. 14, 1914, in Davidson County, Mr.
Weaver was a son of the late Theodore Columbus and Janet Elizabeth Hedrick
Weaver. He retired from City of Lexington Waste Treatment Plant and was the
operator of Erlanger Esso Service Station. He was a member of First Reformed
Church of Christ.
Mr. Weaver was preceded in death by sons Theodore
Edward and Larry Wayne Weaver.

the home; sons Ronald “Ronnie” Eugene Weaver and James R. “Rick” Weaver,
