Norman Ball
CONCORD —Norman Ball, 87, 600 Woodend Drive, formerly of 604 Jackson St., Kannapolis, died Sunday (Dec. 10, 2000) at Concord Nursing Center.
Born April 22, 1913, in Wilkes County, Mr. Ball was a son of the late Thomas Wilburn and Mary Doris Ball Ball. Educated in Kannapolis schools and the Burton Institute, Mr. Ball was employed with Cannon Mills Co., for about 50 years, and served in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II. Mr. Ball was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include wife Mary Ramsey Ball, Concord; daughter Janie Ball Dickson, Concord; sister Hester Allen, Kannapolis; and five grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, conducted by the Rev. James R. Johnson. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Charles Howard Deese
KANNAPOLIS —Charles Howard Deese, 72, 713 Darty St., died Sunday (Dec. 10, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after several years of declining health and one week of critical illness.
Born Aug. 17, 1928, in Union County, Mr. Deese was a son of the late Ed and Ann Simpson Deese. Employed with Fieldcrest Cannon, Inc., Plant 1, weave room 1, he was also a painter for 45 years until his retirement in 1997 due to medical reasons. Mr. Deese was a U.S. Army veteran, member of the V.F.W. Poston-Perkins Post 8989 and the DAV Chapter 54. He was a resident of the area for the past 50 years.
Survivors include Frauline Gordon Deese; daughters Brenda Benton, Renee Deese and Charlene Faggart; son Jerry Deese; sisters Linda Rolfe, Evelyn Pennager, Louise Smith and Mavis Dew; brothers Larry, O.J. “Doc,” and Bedford Deese; and four grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. James Pauley. Graveside, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe.

Bernice Seneca Huneycutt
OAKBORO —Bernice Seneca Huneycutt, 76, 14041A Liberty Hill Church Road, died Saturday (Dec. 9, 2000) at Stanly Manor.
Born April 28, 1924, in Stanly County, Mrs. Huneycutt was a daughter of the late Walter and Mary Huneycutt Morton. She was a former owner/operator of Beauty Nook and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include husband Hugh Adam Huneycutt, Oakboro; daughters Joyce Irene Rabon, Asheboro, and Nancy Jean Jeffcoat, Lexington, S.C.; sisters Shirley Bowers, Albemarle, Lucy Eudy, Norwood, Neomia Heigler, Midland, Inez Harvell, Oakboro, and Patricia Scott, Albemarle; brothers Hoover Morton, Oakboro, and Delnore Morton, Albemarle; sisters ; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Ethel Ozell Smith Irvin
MOCKSVILLE — Ethel Ozell Smith Irvin, 88, of Railroad St., died Saturday (Dec. 9, 2000) at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, Elkin, after several months of declining health.
Born Oct. 28, 1912, in Davie County, Mrs. Irvin was a daughter of the late Josie Swairngen and Charlie Smith. She was retired from Monleigh Garment Company in Mocksville and was a member of Blaise Baptist Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher in the children’s department.
Mrs. Irvin was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Irvin, and a son, James David Irvin.
Survivors include daughter Josie I. Miller, Mocksville; sister Junita S. Ward, Clemmons; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

PORT RICHEY, Fla. —David A. Lewis, 64, of Hudson, died Saturday (Dec. 9, 2000).
Born in Guilford County, N.C., Mr. Lewis was a truck driver and lived in Salisbury, N.C., before moving to the Tampa area in 1980. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a Protestant.
Survivors include wife Virginia Ginger Riggs, Port Richey; son Davie Lewis, Tarpon Springs; sisters Marilyn Harrison, Charlotte, N.C., Betty Troutman, Salisbury, N.C., and Peggie Wilhelm, Ft. Myers; and several stepchildren and step-grandchildren.

Marian Earline Peeler
WHITE ROCK, S.C. — Marian Earline Peeler, 101, Lowman Home, died Sunday (Dec. 10, 2000) at her residence.
Born in Gaffney, Miss Peeler was a daughter of the late Sarah Elmore and Wylie Anderson Peeler. She was a graduate of Limestone College, Gaffney, where she was a music major, and taught school. She followed this with a business career and retired as a legal secretary with an attorney in Salisbury, N.C. She was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church, Greenville.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oakland Cemetery, Gaffney, conducted by the Rev. George T. Moore.

Joe Perry
CHERRYVILLE — Joe Carmel Smith Perry, 86, 509 Eaker Circle, where she made her home with her daughter, formerly of Kannapolis, died Saturday (Dec. 9, 2000) at the Hospice of Wendover, Shelby, after two months of serious illness.
Born Sept. 23, 1914, in Royston, Ga., Mrs. Perry was a daughter of the late W. Bowers and Jessie Bonds Smith. A homemaker and former employee of Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, she was a member of the First Wesleyan Church, Cherryville, since 1992 and was a resident of Kannapolis for more than 65 years. She had been a member of the First Wesleyan Church in Kannapolis for 60 years, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, youth and children director and was a member of the church choir.
Mrs. Perry was preceded in death by her husband, Y.L. “Buster” Perry, who died in October 1997.
Survivors include daughter Jo Carol Stiles, Cherryville; sisters Bertie Dennard, Fairview, and Reba Fortner, Concord; brothers Blanton J. Smith, Kannapolis, and the Rev. Hoover Smith, Gastonia; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
