LINWOOD —Amanda Gaye Koonts Bailey, 30, 135 Cox Ave., died Saturday (Dec 9, 2000), at her residence after 20 years of declining health and two days of critical illness.
Born Nov. 18, 1970, in Davidson County, she was a daughter of Carolyn Fortner Koonts, Linwood, and Ferrell Koonts, Lexington. She was a patient representative for the Davidson County Kidney Foundation.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include daughter Maggie Nadine Oxendine, of the home; sister Amy Koonts Beck, Lexington; and brother Evin Koonts, Turnerville, Ga.

CHARLOTTE — James Lorenzo Beall, 61, Charlotte, died Friday (Dec. 8, 2000).
Mr. Beall had retired from Earle’s Office Supplies, Salisbury.

Rev. Wyman Bolin
ALBEMARLE — The Rev. Wyman Bolin, 77, 116 Lowder Road, died Friday (Dec. 8, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 10, 1923, in Orangeburg County, S.C., he was a son of the late Merideth Calvin and Nettie Etheridge Bolin. A graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, he served more than 45 years as a Baptist minister.
His numerous pastorates included South Albemarle Baptist Church, where he spent 10 years, and North Albemarle Baptist Church, where he spent five years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War IIand the Korean conflict.
Survivors include wife Edna Pragnall Bolin; daughters Maureen Floro, Stanfield, Ann Eudy, Oakboro, Sharon Hayes, Clayton, and Wendy Hatley, Albemarle; sisters Hilda Stewart, Camp Hill, Pa., and Reba Kazimir, Old Town, Fla.; half brother Gordon Etheridge, Orangeburg, S.C.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

James Edward Coggins Jr.
BADIN — James Edward Cog-gins Jr., 43, 61 Maple St., died Friday (Dec. 8, 2000)at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Born May. 16, 1957, in Stanly County, Mr. Coggins was the son of James Edward Coggins, Badin, and the late Betty Joan Tysinger. An associate stocker at Wal-Mart, he was a member of Badin United Methodist Church. He had given 25 years of service to the Badin Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include wife Lynn Marie Morgan Coggins; daughter Heather Renee Coggins, of the home; stepdaughter Sonja Louise Stone, Coates; and sisters Joan Turvey, Galax, Va., and Jane Kiker, Albemarle.

Floyd Calvin Dixon
ALBEMARLE — Floyd Calvin Dixon, 56, 933 Efird St., died Saturday (Dec. 9, 2000) at his residence.
Born March 3, 1944, in Stanly County, Mr. Dixon was a son of George Franklin and Regina Ott Dixon, both of Norwood. He had worked in the utility department and with street maintenance for the city of Darlington, S.C.,.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include brother Franklin Dixon, Norwood; sisters Nellie Foreman, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Mary Goss and Betty Hatley, both of Albemarle.

Helen Hinkle Gray
THOMASVILLE — Helen Hinkle Gray, 93, 106 Randolph St., died Friday (Dec. 8, 2000)at the Piedmont Center.
Born May 14, 1907, in Lexington, Mrs. Gray was a daughter of the late Will Grimes and Etta Everhart Hinkle. Educated in the Thomasville city schools, she also attended Greensboro College and Maryland College.
Mrs. Gray formerly taught first grade in Davidson County and in Trinity. She ran a private kindergarten in the summer at the Old Methodist Hut on Randolph Street beginning in 1930.
She was a former member of the Thomasville Woman’s Club and its Arts Department, the Phi Beta Book Club, the Capt. Benjamin Merrill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Dutch Club of Lexington.
Mrs. Gray was a life member of the N.C. Art Society, the Historic Preservation Foundation of North Carolina and the Genealogical Society of Davidson County. She was also a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ, where she had been named deacon emeritus.
Her husband, Julius H. Gray, died in 1974.
She is survived by a sister, Frances H. Barnhardt, Salisbury.
Services:Graveside, 1 p.m. Monday, Thomasville City Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Jamie Fonville.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, J.C. Green &Sons Funeral Home. The body will remain at the funeral home until the service.

MOCKSVILLE — Ethel Ozell Smith Irvin, 88, formerly of Howard Street, wife of the late James Franklin Irvin, died Saturday (Dec. 9, 2000) at the Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, Elkin, after several months of declining health.

Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wilford “Bill” Marshall.

Christine Palmer
LEXINGTON —Christine Lan-ning Palmer, 92, Michael Road, died Friday (Dec. 8, 2000)at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born Jan. 14, 1908, in Davidson County, Mrs. Palmer was a daughter of the late Baxter Franklin and Carrie Smith Lanning. Retired from Young-Hinkle Furniture, she was a member of Tyro United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Palmer was preceded in death by her husband, James Davis Palmer, and a son, Walter Joe Cagle.
Survivors include son J.D. Palmer Jr., Lexington; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Born May 2, 1903, in Moore County, Mrs. Sells was a daughter of the late Charles Hunter and Lucy Irene Jones Byrd. Retired as an operator for Concord Telephone Co., she was a member of First Street United Methodist Church
Mrs. Sells was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lee Sells.

‘Boots’ Howard Shaver
Beulah Mae “Boots” Howard Shaver, 76, Salisbury, died Friday (Dec. 8, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 1, 1924, in Rowan County, Mrs. Shaver was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Suzanne Simon Howard. She was a graduate of the Salis-bury schools and Salisbury Business Col-lege.
She was employed as a supervisor at R.W. Norman for 27 years before retiring in 1982. She was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church and the Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Her husband, Harry C. Shaver, died in 1998.
Survivors include sons Jim C. Shaver, Granite Quarry, and Harry G. Shaver, Atlanta; brother David E. Howard, Stockton, Calif.; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
