Gernie E. Davis
Gernie Elzavan Davis, 88, Trinity Oaks Retirement Community, formerly of Kannapolis, died Friday (Dec. 8, 2000) at the Salisbury Lutheran Home after 10 months of declining health and a serious illness of 312 weeks.
Born April 18, 1912, in Moore County, he was son of the late Sandy Elzavan and Maggie Kirk Davis. Mr. Davis had retired from the Kannapolis post office, where he was a supervisor. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 30 years.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Brotherhood and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
His son, Gernie E. Davis Jr., died May 2, 1998.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Helen Funderburk Davis; brothers Robert “Bob” Davis and C. Bruce Davis, both of Kannapolis; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl Sachtleben and the Rev. Jennifer Ginn. Entombment, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Lady’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. The family will make headquarters at the home of daughter-in-law Phyllis R. Davis and granddaugther Amy Davis Church at 635 Neisler Road, Concord.

Eloise Cotton Hines
LEXINGTON — Eloise Cotton Hines, 82, 1429 Feezor Road, died Thursday (Dec. 7, 2000) at Community General Hospital, Thomasville.
Born June 28, 1918, in Randolph County, she was the daughter of the late Sally Long Cotton and Dewey Steed. Educated in the Randolph County public schools, she worked at Klopman Mills in Denton. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Southmont, where she sang in the choir.
Survivors include her son, Winfred Hines, four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, First Baptist Church, Southmont, conducted by the Rev. John Gaston, pastor. Burial, church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church an hour before services. Rowan Funeral Service is in charge.

Francis Nyene Nyae Jr.
Francis Nyene Nyae Jr., 6-week-old infant, died Friday (Dec. 8, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem after an illness of two weeks.
Born Oct. 17, 2000, in Salisbury, he was the son of Victoria Kamah and Francis Nyene Nyae, 708 Victory St.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, are maternal grandparents Abraham and Beatrice Brown, brother Victor Nyae and sister Frances Nyae, all of Liberia, West Africa.

Hazeline Clifton Oakley
SPENCER — The funeral will be Monday for Hazeline Clifton Oakley, 54, 1002 S. Rowan Ave., who died Thursday (Dec. 7, 2000) at her residence after an illness of two months.
Born Oct. 18, 1946, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Mae Kirkland and Haze Clifton. She graduated from Dunbar High School and N.C. Central University. Retired from PPG Industries, she was a member of Thomas Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, David Earl Oakley; son David Earl Oakley Jr., of the home; daughters Lisa Oakley Silver, Charlotte, and Kerry Oakley Artis of the home; stepdaughter Adria Yvette Worth, East Spencer; brothers Kevin Wayne Clifton, Spencer, and Larry Clifton, Salisbury; sisters Cardella Mathes, Raleigh, and Willie Smith, Spencer; and two grandchildren.

Audrey Loretta O. Owens
LEXINGTON — Audrey Loretta O. Owens, 79, formerly of 621 N. Greensboro St., died Friday (Dec. 8, 2000) at Golden Age Nursing Home.
Born. Sept. 5, 1921, in Davidson County, she was the daughter of the late Forrest Cleveland and Annie Catherine Beck Owens. Retired from Binnings, she was a member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ.
Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her husband, Olin I. Owens; and a daughter, Judy Owens.
Survivors include daughters Patricia Bowers, Lexington, Donese Hunt, Topsail Island, and Brenda Giarolo, Croton on the Hudson, N.Y.; a son, Dennis “Denny” Owens; sisters Essie Hughes, High Point, and Louise Everhart, Lexington; brothers Bill and Jerry Owens, both of Lexington; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Lucille Tilley Rahme
KANNAPOLIS —Lucille Juanita Tilley Rahme, 67, 517 Pleasant Ave., died Friday (Dec. 8, 2000) at her residence after four years of declining health.
Born May 6, 1933, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Rahme was the daughter of Lee Clark Tilley, China Grove, and the late Mary Magdalene Lynch Tilley. A homemaker, she was a member of Mount Zion First Freewill Baptist Church, Kannapolis, where she was active with the Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. J.E. Rahne, whose ministry she supported during their many years of marriage.
Survivors, in addition to her father, include sons Ricky J. Rahme, Salisbury, and Earl L. Rahme, Concord; brothers Leroy and Robert Tilley, both of Kannapolis, Don Tilley, China Grove, and David Tilley, Salisbury; sisters Geraldine Glann, Salisbury, Margaret Anderson, Kannapolis, and Coleen Holcombe, China Grove; and one grandson.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Mount Zion First Freewill Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Odell Cook. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove. The body will be taken to the church at 1:30 minutes.

WINSTON-SALEM —Virginia Mae Rogers Stonestreet, 86, 1199 Hayes Forest Drive, died Thursday (Dec. 7, 2000) at Brookridge Retirement Home.
Born Aug. 9, 1914, in Albemarle, Mrs. Stonestreet was a daughter of the late Martin Luther and Carrie Virginia Moody Rogers. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Albemarle.
Survivors include husband Dr. Frank Marshall Stonestreet; sons Dr. James Frank Stonestreet, Winter Park, Fla., John Marshall Stonestreet, Davidson, and Robert Martin Stonestreet, Albemarle; daughter Linda Virginia Capilupo, Saylorsburg, Pa.; brothers Dwight L. Rogers, Birmingham, Ala., and William “Bill” M. Rogers, Albemarle; sisters Jewel Rogers Culp, New London, Betty Vaughn Rogers Moser, Lincolnton, and Bessie Lee Rogers Fitzgerald, Laurinburg; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.
